This is very basic and maybe an oversimplification, but the Zips lost to 5 better teams. Arguably, Milwaukee was not better and the Zips were off that night.
I was encouraged by something Groce said in his angry Princeton post-game rant. He said this is a great group of kids that's getting better. No better time for it to all kick in with MAC play starting.
BG's wins- Taylor, Niagara, New Mexico State, Morgan State and Aquinas College
BG's losses- Southern Miss., Davidson, Michigan St., Bellarmine. Weber St., Kansas City and St. Thomas
Yep, I don't see a "go to" guy on this squad. They've always had that guy before but I don't see it, at least yet.
My head is going to explode the next time Hardman is not between the guy he is guarding and the basket.
I thought Okonkwo was good against better competition today but he needs to cut down on the silly fouls.
The team as a whole fell apart a little late, relying too much on one on one offense and the pick and roll rather than running what worked in the first half.
At 7-5, I wonder what the schedule critics think at this juncture.
The Zips head to Bowling Green Friday night to kick off the MAC season with the 5-7 Falcons.
6'7" senior forward and St. Vincent- St. Mary alum Marcus Johnson is leading the Falcons at 17.3 ppg. He transferred in from D2 Wheeling where he was 14th in the nation in D2 scoring' 6'2" junior guard Javontae Campbell is second in scoring at 15.8 ppg. He's a JUCO transfer from Northern Oklahoma. 6'9" senior forward Sam Towns leads rebounding at 7 rpg while contributing 6.3 ppg. Towns, who went to Ohio U as a freshman, hasn't played since 11/23. The Falcons were predicted to finish 5th in the MAC by the MAC Preseason Poll.
Groce said it was the worst road call in his 8 years at Akron. Before he took the mic you could here him angry in the background telling someone it was bull****.
