  1. I'm bookmarking this guy. I used to have more time to put info in the initial post threads but now just have time to essentially put them up at placeholders to start the discussion. This guy puts out some nice info.
  2. The Zips host the 9-6 Toledo Rockets Tuesday night at the JAR on Roo Blue Night. The Rockets are 3-0 in the MAC with wins over Central Michigan (by 2), Eastern Michigan (by 3) and Western Michigan (by 6). 6’1” sophomore guard Sonny Wilson is leading the Rockets at 15.3 ppg. 6’6” sophomore guard Sam Lewis leads the Rockets in rebounding at 5.7 rpg and is second in scoring at 14.3 ppg. 6’7” Javan Simmons was named to the All-MAC Preseason First Team and is averaging 11.7 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Second teamer 6’7’ 5th year guard Isaiah Adams averages 9.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg. They were selected 4th in the MAC Preseason Poll.
  3. Stan Heath's teams always look like they're in their first week of practice.
  4. Nice ball movement. Not great defense. I'm starting to like the Shamah/Sharron combo.
  5. First come first serve.
  6. I see Ypsilanti really came out for the game today.
  7. https://gozips.com/news/2024/3/5/mens-basketball-freeman-records-double-double-in-akrons-61-60-loss-to-eastern-michigan
  8. From today's Beacon/Ohio.com article- Akron junior Josiah Harris has missed the last seven games with an injury. Groce said Harris' status is to be determined. Groce said four players are utilizing a redshirt: freshmen Eric Mahaffey, Rich Brisco and Conner Groce (Revere graduate) and sophomore Zach Halligan (Walsh Jesuit graduate).
  9. They're coached by Stan Heath so that's a given, however, the Zips have taken bigger dumps than this (see last March 5th) and it is on the road.
  10. I'm more of a fan of it when the ball is going in the basket! LOL. In reality, I am not a fan of the fast pace and the heavy reliance of 3 pointers but I think it is essentially the type of offense they're forced to play if they wish to be successful given the composition of the team.
  11. Eastern is 3-3 in the Horizon. In the OOC, they beat IU Indy, Oakland and Wright State and lost to Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy and UPFW.
  12. The Zips head to Ypsilanti Saturday to face the Eagles with a 3:30 tip-off. Stan Heath's crew stands at 7-7 overall and 1-1 in the MAC, having beaten NIU 75-71 and lost at Toledo 90-87. Stan vs. Ted isn't exactly Wooden vs. Rupp. 6'8" senior forward Da'Sean Nelson, a DePaul transfer, leads the Eagles in scoring and rebounding at 16.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg. 6' senior guard Jalen Terry, another DePaul transfer, is second in scoring and rebounding at 15.8 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
  13. Too bad they can't make trades. LOL.
  14. Tavari playing well. Gray playing well. Young earning more minutes. Scott earning more minutes. Wilson earning more minutes. Groce has his work cut out for him.
  15. So many kids earning more minutes. Spacing is good tonight.
  16. He was a real shooter in high school. Maybe he's finally getting it?
  17. Poor Carolyn Steele.
  18. First Weekend scores: OU- 57 CMU-55 EMU- 75 NIU- 71 Ball St.- 75 PCCC- 67 Miami- 93 Buffalo- 79 Toledo- 76 WMU- 70
  19. I remember the Marshal color guy talking about Sammy Hunter being a great shooter but not when he could smell popcorn (meaning being a good shooter in practice but not games). Maybe our shooters have that problem. LOL.
  20. It's like every other Zips injury, a state secret. However, we know it is a shoulder. Friday night there was a report on X that he's done for the season. It was on the heels of Groce essentially stating that he and Mahaffey were out indefinitely. Hilltopper, whose info is always spot on, seemed to confirm he's done.
  21. The team is small, guard heavy and deep. Take advantage of those things. Wear the other team down with ball pressure and pace. Pace means pushing the ball and playing fast. It does not have to mean playing sloppy, taking bad shots and turning the ball over. Also, the depth is going to help in the rigors of the MAC Tournament week. John Groce knows what he's doing and he's good at adapting and working with what he has. I'm going to trust him on this one.
  22. That would be 9.5 point dog Ball State. Ball State makes 9 threes; Sullinger goes 1 for 9 from three. Outrebounded 34-24. There is no joy in Brimfield.
  23. That's almost as prestigious as the Taylor Currie Overwhelming Disappointment Award.
  24. Lucan Smith was 6'5"/195 and all effort. Seth Wilson is 6'2"/220 and I'm still not sure just what he is.
