  1. I have very much enjoyed Terry over the years, but I have to admit his work in recent years has been disappointing. It's often informal and conversational as opposed to journalistic. His book about the ABA, "Loose Balls", remains one of my favorites.
  2. Quotes from a Terry Pluto cleveland.com article earlier this week about CSU- "I’ve been told CSU has only six players on the roster at the moment. At least eight have entered the transfer portal." "I’ve been told the basketball team did not have a strong spring quarter academically. Some of the recruits committed to CSU are very iffy in terms of having the academics to actually make it on to the court." I don't believe they've yet hired a coach. Seems like a real recipe for success!
  3. Yes, as I recall they beat #5 seed Mississippi State then lost to Va. Tech.
  4. Tulane was a brutal 4-27 last year. The roster indicates they are a young team, with one grad transfer and no seniors. They have a new coach. Hard to believe they moved on after a a 4-27 season! Liberty was 29-7 while Towson was 10-22. Here's hoping we get the test of Liberty.
  5. Surprised (and pleased) to get the mail about my season ticket renewal and learn that the GA season ticket is still only $60. That's the best deal in town. I do, however, reserve the right to b!+ch like I have $600 seats.
  6. More people tend to come to the JAR when the team is playing well. Formula: good product on the floor + a brand of basketball that fans find entertaining + decent visiting teams = butts in seats
  7. I paid $60 for a GA season ticket. It doesn't get cheaper than that. They do charge too much for single game tickets. A family finds the single game experience too expensive. I don't get the sense that season reserved seat sales are bad, but many people buy them and don't use them. My thought on cutting budgets is that they spend way too much money and efforts on sports that regularly are unsuccessful. They need to prioritize for programs that have been successful and that are less expensive to run, like basketball.
  8. Your attributing a middle aged male intellect and mindset to 17 or 18 year olds.
  9. If the value of a specific school's degree had any role in the mindset of 17 and 18 year old basketball recruits, the Ivy League would leapfrog the ACC, SEC and Big 10.
  10. Eastern Michigan had a front line of 6'9", 6'10" and 6'11". They were 15-17.
  11. Not conceding a damn thing. Just being rational enough to realize that no team duplicates the two of the best players in its history on a regular basis. KD recruited 2 of them in 16 years, yet we're to expect Groce to get them every year? The staff has a duty to turn over every rock and try to get every talented player that can help the team but the reality is that quality big men don't grow on trees.
  12. It's also unreasonable to use Zeke and Big Dog, arguably the two best big men players in UA and MAC basketball history as a measuring stick for big men available.
  13. The league Zeke is in is a new league started by a group of owners that weren't happy with the way that the old Canadian pro league was run. As I recall, the old league had a ridiculously low salary cap of around $150 to $200K for the entire team.
  14. Let's be honest. We'd be happy with 27th year transfers if they'd win the MAC and get to the tournament. We certainly have preferences as to team makeup, but in the end winning trumps those preferences.
  15. He's played in it multiple seasons. I think he may still be playing. If you can't tell, I am still recovering from my frustration from the "Harney years."
  16. Any league in which Nick Harney has starred is not one that emphasizes defense or effort.
  17. I'll have a better guess mid-season.
  18. Buffalo. In the words of the immortal Ric Flair- "to be the man you gotta beat the man."
  19. Exactly. Many may recall Banks started at the start of last season. I am not "fawning" but I think this roster shows a continued growth of talent on the roster. I damn sure won't be happy if it is a 2 or 3 win growth, but I do see things trending in the right direction (other than they haven't found that source of unlimited 6' 11" talented D1 players).
  20. St. John's isn't what it once was but a kid with a ride there should still be able to be a contributor in the MAC. Technically, Marquelle McIntyre is a holdover from the Dambrot era.
  21. Looks like last year's offense- lots of effort but too little movement! Sorry, couldn't help myself. GO ZIPS!
  22. Interesting. I wish the kid well. He always played hard.
  23. No grousing here, just an observation.
  24. He's a little busy watching the Elton John movie for the 7th time. Here's another article- https://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/2019/06/10/terry-bowden-joining-clemson-football-coaching-staff-unpaid-intern/1411736001/ If Terry's position is unpaid, it leaves UA, I assume it leaves Akron on the hook for the full boat.
  25. Mike Davis is solid but it sounds like he has a teeny weensy bit of Marv Marinovich in him. I think the kid was probably the most ball dominant player we saw all year. I suspect that Mike benefited a little from Antoine being his son in getting the job and Antoine benefited from Mike being the coach with no limitations placed on his game.
