  1. I think right now he may have a higher shooting percentage from 3 point range than he has on one footers. New rule for Deng- try to dunk any shot taken within 3 feet of the basket.
  2. Well, on to Mr. Pinky and the Flushes.
  3. It's very clear that our Zips are just an average middle of the road MAC team. On a good night they can challenge the better teams in the league and on an off night can lose to the worst. They're just not there yet. Improved from last year and going in the right direction but still short on the type and depth of talent to be at the top of the conference. I guess the only good news is that I have just described about half of the teams in the MAC.
  4. It's trying to keep up with the Zips quality of play.
  5. The Zips seem to be playing a little more up tempo which is something I was hoping to see. Their regular offense all to often seems to get bogged down so I like to see them in transition. I also think that type of game suits guys like Jackson, Ivey and Cheese. The next couple of weeks, starting tonight, are going to tell us a lot about this squad. Are they the team we were at our wit's end with as little as a couple of weeks ago or are they now growing into the team we all hoped they'd be? We'll find out soon.
  6. George is eagerly anticipating two team from the MAC making the tournament. https://www.ohio.com/sports/20190204/university-of-akron-basketball-mac-east-shows-potential-to-get-very-interesting
  7. As far as JAR concession costs, I just read an interesting article on the price of concessions at the Super Bowl that contained the following- The stadium, opened in 2017 by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, is known for its low prices on beer, hot dogs and refillable sodas, and those prices haven’t changed for the big game. A regular soda, bottle of water, pretzel, popcorn and hot dog are all just $2, while nachos with cheese, waffle fries and slices of pizza go for $3. A large soda cup is $4, cheeseburgers are $5 and a chicken tender basket with fries will cost fans $6. Domestic bottled beer is going for $7 with drafts starting at $9.
  8. I thought Frenchy said there were 7 to 8K.
  9. Sponsored by the Spacely Company.
  10. The Zips, fresh off of their first road win of the season, head into John F. Savage Arena Tuesday night to face the 18-4 Toledo Rockets. The Rockets are 6-3 in the MAC and are on a three game win streak. MAC West preseason first team 6'4" senior guard Jaelan Sanders leads Sprockets scoring with 16.3 ppg. Missouri transfer 6'6" junior forward Willie Jackson leads rebounding at at 10.1 rpg.
  11. Nice road win. Solid defense throughout. Clearly, defense is going to be their calling card. The 3 early Riak blocks help set the tone.
  12. I saw it on Sportscenter. He bounced up yelling at the ref. Too damn funny.
  13. That's like getting half of a colonoscopy.
  14. Is there a game Saturday?
  15. From what I have seen of Reece he's shorter than your average 4, but he plays larger. You are exactly right that it will be good to free up Utomi.
  16. And those 3 bigs are all coming back with Williams coming in too. Not a positive future for Mark with the Zips. Wish the kid luck.
  17. I don't know the NCAA rules, but I suspect that the earlier he withdraws coupled with the circumstances make it easier for him to argue that this year should be treated like a red shirt year and not count against his eligibility.
  18. Gueye will have to find college basketball's Last Chance U.
  19. History tells s someone will drop out by next year. I suspect we may well have lost K-lac in any event. Who knows, maybe they just got an early jump on the exits with K-lac and Gueye.
  20. Nice story from the Beacon Journal about Xavior Gray- https://www.ohio.com/sports/20190129/jackson-star-ol-xavior-gray-commits-to-akron/1
  21. Bob and the Beacon can't seem to figure out just what he is. Is he a columnist? A humorist? An investigative reporter? In the end, whatever he's trying to be is being done poorly (yet arrogantly). Hopefully, Gatehouse will get their fill quickly.
  22. My post was directed at GT's repeated insistence that Riak is being underutilized.
  23. You should have waited for the end of the scroll. It actually read "Akron- 67 Northern Illinois 65.......Riak virtually forgotten....
  24. OK, on the venting theme, could someone please explain to me why "Fat Bottomed Girls" is a staple in the pep band repertoire? It's even more questionable with the dance team and cheerleaders on the floor.
  25. Uh oh, now NWAkron is going to have flashbacks!
