Some facts about Alabama State: Alabama State University (ASU), founded in 1867, is a public historically black university located in Montgomery, Alabama, United States. ASU is a member-school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Alabama State University has nearly 6,000 students from more than 42 states and over twenty countries. Sports teams participate in NCAA Division I (FCS – Football Championship Subdivision for football) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), which it joined in 1982.

The 2-3 Alabama State Hornets come to the JAR Wednesday night. They've beaten LaGrange and Birmingham Southern and lost to Iowa State, South Dakota State and Iowa. 6-3 junior guard Reginald Lee leads the Hornets at 16.4 ppg. 6-8 sophomore center Brandon Johnson (from Garfield Heights) leads all rebounders at 8 rpg. They average 75 ppg. The Zips handled the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville. Here's hoping they handle their cousins, the Hornets.

Oops, jumped the gun! LOL. I would not be in favor of Tyrell but figured it was just a matter of time before we started hearing the name. I think there's a step on the ladder between Hoban and a place like UA that he's have to do, like a D2 or D3 school, before I'd feel comfortable with him here.

Kehres' dad would never leave Mount Union. I have a sneaking suspicion his kid is cut from the same mold. Hard to break away from a national championship every other year or so to jump into an uncertain situation. I like the Loefller suggestion. Here's a reach- how about a high school coach that's won 4 straight Ohio high school championships? He's also right here in Akron.

Nice way to finish. Really two decent performances and one clunker. I'd be curious to know the reason for not starting Utomi. He could be a great sixth man but he's probably the best player so he doesn't belong on the bench at the start of the game. I have to wonder if there was some minor rule infraction.

How about KenPom? LOL.

Damn, there goes our at-large bid. I was on the road today, so I was unable to participate in the misery. This program is a work in progress. If they are here at this time next year, I will be unhappy, but we have to be patient. Plus, football brings me enough misery. I need hope in some program.

I'm pretty sure it was just to try to get him up to speed. That's how it looked.

He was really getting his feet under him Friday night. Looked a little lost on offense and defense and quite rusty. I suspect the staff just didn't think he was "ready for prime time." I think he'll get there. It will just take a little time.

While it is a loss, I am pleased with where this team is now. If you'd have told me at the start of last season that we'd play with the 19th team in the country 4 games into this season, I'd have taken it without hesitation.

I think Monday will give us our first real insight as to what we have in this team.

If we are what we watch, we're all $h!+.

If Bowden does come back next year he'll have to personally pick me up, drive me to the damn games and put me up in a box with Kate Upton to get me to spend three hours in that tomb watching that mess.

After the BG TD with 8 minutes left, the Akron return team went out to the wrong side of the field. I think that's a pretty decent summation of the leadership of this team. They were beaten by a 2 win team on their home field on senior day. Damn embarrassing.

Game 3- Chicago State Cougars

No, I am too cheap for that. Gave up my power bowl seats 3 or 4 years ago. I alternate sitting in the north bleachers looking right down on the bench with sitting at center court all the way at the top. -

He is what he is. He got on the floor a lot last year due to injuries and depth issues in the transition. He's the rare kid who will play less in his sophomore year than his freshman year. If some day he is an 8 point, 5 rebound guy, he'll have done well with is skill set. If we see more than 6 or 8 minutes a game from him this season, we'll know the Zips are in trouble. -

I sat above the bench tonight and I am really liking the bench dynamic. No pouters or whiners and everyone is engaged and involved, even the redshirts. -

I think he's going to start taking some time away from Poke. He had a nice showing tonight. Toles looked lost on both ends, bu he is still settling in. Glad to see our kids not back down to the thugs. -

I guess if you played for one of the ten worst D1 teams in the NCAA you would get a little pissy. There might well be more yet. -

I haven't been this excited for a Zips game since the last time Coppin State came to town.
