  1. So, will this be the worst attended game this year?
  2. Let's not forget, the Zips had a hurt lineman and a QB who missed some games. Damn, I knew I couldn't say that with a straight face. As for the bowl record, a conference that has to play on odd weeknights just to get coverage is not likely to be strong conference.
  3. No doubt it's a great school.
  4. Carnegie Mellon has a 99% chance in the ACT/SAT team competition.
  5. Exactly. The talent is there, it just seems that his mind wanders sometimes when he's out there.
  6. Your 2018- 2019 Carnegie Mellon Tartan.
  7. The 4-6 Tartan of Carnegie Mellon come to the JAR on Sunday the 30th at 2:00 to face the Zips. They started 1-5 but have now won 3 of 4 by topping Hobart, Washington Jefferson and Bethany. That's Bethany of West Virginia lest we not be confused. Zack Howarth and Seth Henry lead the Tartan with 16.4 and 16.3 PPG respectively. If nothing else, they have one of the NCAA's least imposing team names. I wonder if any NCAA team is the Paisley.
  8. Keith Dambrot was hired as the head basketball coach at Duquesne in MARCH OF 2017. He is now well into his second season there. I assume he is enjoying the greater opportunity to participate in the NCAA tourney in the A10. He was a hometown boy who did good things for UA and made us proud of our Zips, but he left us for what he perceived to be greener pastures. He had some negatives, but overall, the goods far outweighed the bads. I guess I'll be curious as to how he does, but no more so than I am curious in what PCCC, OSU or CSU does. Quite simply, he's moved on so so have I. Groce has been places, under similar circumstances, that KD has never been. Am I convinced that he's the end all be all, no, but it's still a work in progress and the program sure as hell could have done worse that a guy with his resume. In any event, he's the captain of the Zip ship> The KD ship passed long ago so it's way overdue for us all to just move on.
  9. Nice effort by the Zips.
  10. Wow, one possession game.
  11. Amen Kreed, and missing shots, even bunnies.
  12. Need some stops and a run.
  13. Can't trade baskets.
  14. Aaaaah, the age old character vs. talent conundrum. That's now referred to as a "Gordon."
  15. Nice job Captain. Well done! I really liked this quote- "At the end of the day, where a player comes from, how he gets here is less important to me than the type of person he is and what he can contribute to our program. Both on and off the field. Is he the right fit for The University of Akron? Is he the right fit for the culture of the program that I’m looking to build here? Those are the decisions we have to make.”
  16. Or maybe like most stories, both sides have in right in part so there's blame to share.
  17. Beacon article about Jimond with a blurb about the Nevada game by Michael Beaven. Nice to see Beaven doing some UA basketball stuff. Did we not though just have a GT article on Ivey? https://www.ohio.com/sports/20181221/university-of-akron-mens-basketball-jimond-ivey-continues-to-mature-on-and-off-court
  18. If Terry Bowden had KD's success, there'd be a damn statue of him at Infocision.
  19. Here's the blurb summing up the KD melt down video from SI Extra Mustard- The worst time to give an opponent free points is in a tie game with five seconds to play. Just ask Duquesne’s Keith Dambrot, who gave Penn State four free points by picking up two technical fouls in the closing seconds. Those shots, paired with the two the Nittany Lions were already shooting (for the foul Dambrot was so upset about in the first place) put the game out of reach. Even worse, Penn State was favored by 5.5 points in the game. Without those four extra shots, the Dukes would have covered. Even worse than that, the over-under was 138 and those four extra points pushed the total to 140. I sincerely hope no one reading this actually bet on a Penn State-Duquesne game on a Wednesday, but I understand why you’re mad if you did.
  20. Wolfpack- 83, Zips- 67. The Wolfpack's bigs will be too much for the Zips. I am so old I saw Eric Musselman play for Brecksville.
  21. Some previews of the Wolfpack- https://athlonsports.com/college-basketball/nevada-basketball-wolf-pack-prediction-2018-19 https://bustingbrackets.com/2018/09/29/nevada-basketball-2018-19-season-preview-for-the-wolfpack/
  22. Right now, Cheese appears to be the primary backup, and he's better suited to the off guard spot. After him, it is thin. I like Scott Walter, but he's not ready for major minutes. I'm afraid teams are going to try to pound LCJ in MAC play.
  23. No question that some kids want to go away and that's okay. I've acknowledged that numerous times in here. The point I am making is that UA should be in the running for kids that go to similar schools. I have no idea what Bowden and his crew did. I do, however, know of one kid in particular that wasn't offered from a very close area high school that is doing very well at a superior MAC football school and that he would have strongly considered Akron if offered.
  24. Cleveland.com had an article today entitled "Early National Signing Day 2019: Where area football standouts are headed." Bowling Green. PCCC, Marshall, Toledo, Eastern Kentucky, Ohio, Miami... Arth needs to cut into that mass. No kid in NEO should think of schools like that without having had UA pounding on his door for a couple of years.
  25. Again, waaaaaaaaay to many turnovers. That level of play won't work in the MAC, but there's still some time to iron things out. I was not pleased with their play against that weird 1-3-1 zone. Too little ball movement. I also was not happy with the way they responded to the press. Glad TSU ran some of that stuff to help get the Zips ready. Kudos to the TSU kids for playing hard sportsmanlike ball all night.
