  1. I understand it was a personal fit issue, not grades. Furman is a university named after a Baptist pastor with a school motto of "Christo et Doctrinae" which translates to "For Christ and Learning." That had to be quite a transition from the Portage County School of Animal Husbandry.
  2. Fair enough. Good job with the numbers. I think we would all like to see some top notch OOC games, especially at the JAR. That being said, when similarly situated programs are having similar OOC schedules it tells me that maybe it is a "difficulty" thing across the board for decent mid-majors rather than UA not adequately scheduling. Another story Groce told at the reception was that after they played a very tight game against a more prominent opponent that was coached by a friend of his as they were walking through the handshake line the coach leaned into him and told him "we are NEVER playing you again." I suspect that may have been Huggins after the West Virginia game.
  3. The Mad Ants are at the charge tomorrow.
  4. Stand away. I'm not arguing with you. I'm stating what Groce said at the reception.
  5. Groce thanked Dustin Ford for all of his hard work in working out the schedule so I got the sense that he's the primary guy in charge of scheduling. He also spoke of just how easy it was to schedule his first year when everyone knew they had limited talent and how it's become tougher and tougher with the improvement in the program.
  6. Ruel Thompson, a left handed kid from Ginn Academy. He was the QB on the Glenville state championship team last year. He's a real athlete. He accounted for 4 TD's in the first half of the championship against Alter, running for 2 and throwing for 2. He sat at Walsh for 3 years before going to Glenville/Ginn Academy.
  7. I understand Sullinger no longer has a scholarship but paid his tuition from the $15K he got from Furman before he bailed. I suspect Mr. Pinky was just making him work for it to get back on the roster for this season.
  8. ...and the year Tod goes deep into the tournament.
  9. I thought a thread to discuss the happenings around MAC basketball might be helpful, rather than trying to fit all news into other threads, so here it is. I see that Sullinger played in the PCC opener. At first, they were going to redshirt him. Last week, Mr. Pinky said he hadn't made up his mind. Monday night, he played. I know there's no longer a definite number of games you can play and redshirt but it appears Mr. Pinky is playing his card.
  10. How can you not get excited when the Fighting Pacifists, I mean the Battling Bishops, come to town? Actually, the only benefit I see in attending is to see the kids farther down on the bench to gauge their possible role in the future.
  11. Will we see Connor Groce in his first college game?
  12. I also think it's pretty easy for a team to let up when they are up 38-7 in the 4th quarter. I like the 23 points from the Zips in the quarter but I don't think it's truly representative of anything.
  13. I'd stick with the current rotation rather than risk damaging Tavari's ego this early in the season. Dustin Ford may have to dust off his old LCJ defensive notes to help him figure out how to minimize Sharron getting taken advantage of when he's on defense. He was getting pushed around quite a bit last night. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great talent. I just hope we can tie him down for 4 years.
  14. That game was a good experience for a gelling team and will help them down the line. Arkansas State is going to win a lot of games. That coach really has the program going in the right direction.
  15. The Battling Bishops (yes, the Battling Bishops) come to the JAR Friday to face the 0-1 Zips. It is the Bishops' first game of the season and listed as an exhibition on their schedule. Ohio Wesleyan is in Delaware, Ohio, the home of the Little Brown Jug harness race. The Bishops were 11-15 last season and 8-8 in the NCAC.
  16. Zips showed some heart. I knew they were in trouble as it was a game of runs and the Zips had their run to finish the game. Ohio Wesleyan has to be worried.
  17. Damn, need to finish at the rim.
  18. Given how Shammah had actually performed at the hoop tonight, unlike last season, I have no problem with the play.
  19. Sharron's minutes coming at the cost of Tavari.
  20. Momentum lost. Need another run, and fast.
  21. Not impacting the game as they are bad both ways. They've called 11 fouls in 29 minutes.
  22. Please Amani, no more 3s. Nate with a rough stretch there. Two blown block outs and a turnover.
