  1. Hello all. I always love coming up to Akron at least once a year and this year it will be for the Ohio game. Since it is homecoming I am guessing it will be a day game. Does anyone have any ideas on that question. I am trying to make out a schedule for 2015 and I like to get in as many doubleheaders as possible. Game time will decide that as Ohio-Akron is the must see that day. Hope you guys have a great season except when you play us and looking forward to 10/3.
  2. Ohio isn't going anywhere. Ohio fans that think they so are dreaming. There is one huge problem with joining Conference USA that makes it unattractive for anyone let alone Ohio. The cost of travel. The league is spread out from Texas to Florida. The cost of travelling all varsity teams to these schools would be way out of line of most schools. The return for playing football in the conference is not worth it. Marshall is probably wishing they never left because of these costs no matter what the "We are Marshall" folks and Chuck Landon want to say.
  3. When I saw Eastern against Morgan State Eastern started a freshman at qb. #10 Bell, he was terrible. One particular ball he threw away while being tackled was such a poor decision he was yanked immediately and he was never seen again that evening. Hopefully this picture comes through, their starter that night is in the picture. As you can see the field is a little different at eastern this year. Be glad you don't have to sit and watch a game played on that.
  4. If you like one on one coverage just wait till the Ohio game. Anytime you see single coverage from Ohio's #37 be looking for it going deep. Oh I hope the rain moves out also, was hoping to catch BW and Case games Saturday.
  5. Great victory last week. As for this week I have seen Eastern this year(Morgan State) and they are worse then the stats say. Forget the grey field(makes it hard to watch a game) or the busting down of the wall. This is probably the worst d1 team I have ever seen and it's hard to beat some of those eastern teams of the past. They almost were beaten by a terrible 1aa team at home. They also don't have a qb who can throw the ball over 10 yards. Not much else you need to know about them. You can name the score. Let's call it 63-7, maybe eastern will score one late.
  6. It isn't just Marshall receivers Ohio can't cover. Bass was beaten at least 3 times deep last night by Idaho He was beaten a couple other times the pass was either overthrown or dropped. Trust me you start 21 points up on Ohio. Oh Ohio lost their starting qb last night also. It will be a easy win for you.
  7. don't worry zip fans, you have a 3 game with eastern, Miami and Ohio coming up. Those are all wins. After the last two games everyone knows the only thing you have to do to score on Ohio is throw deep against bass. It will get you 3 touchdowns at least a game.
  8. well although people say I am a dead ringer for John McCain I am not quite that old. Just born in 54, I believe the Browns were champs that year.
  9. hopefully not. I don't think this coach will make a similar mistake. That being said the Dallas coach in the game I mentioned above was Hank Stram and he wasn't considered a bad coach.
  10. In defense this is a mistake that happens more often then known. The AFL championship game of 1962 has a similar incident when it was time for first sudden death ot. Dallas player was told to take the wind(which was 20-25 mph) but instead he chose to kick. Houston received the kick and choice of direction also.
  11. I was there but I couldn't see it from a seat in the 4th row at the opposite 35. Everyone was laughing about it though. Eastern never fails to amaze.
  12. attendance will come around this year. You have a good team that will contend and with that result from BG who knows. Be glad you weren't one of the 8000 at Eastern Saturday night. I was there and trust me it wasn't only the play of eastern that made it tough to watch. They have a grey field now. Only place I have ever been you needed sunglasses at night to cut down the glare. Be glad they are a home game no matter the size of the crowd.
  13. Good luck this week Zips. A whole lot of people across the MAC would love to see you win including myself. Give them HELL this week.
  14. great photos, great new uniforms, can't wait to catch you guys on 10/4 and the 10/18. Will the road uniforms be different also? ----------------- Mod edit: Short answer to your question "yes." Longer answer to your question can be found in the uniform thread.
  15. Interesting this made news here before the Ohio message board. oops guess it did already make it.
  16. thanks to all the great folks from Akron I met yesterday. Hang in there, it will get turned around. I am trying to include a pic of the first quarter interception. Hope it comes through. oops guess it didn't, I will add it to zips facebook page. Good luck the rest of the year, especially in two weeks. david
  17. great game Akron, thought you guys had them. As a unbiased observer I thought there was some home cooking when it came to the officials. That is something that Toledo can identify with after the their game with OSU a couple of years ago. As for the question of no shows. I figure that must be a picture from the first half of the student section. The Michigan students not showing up until halftime is a continuing problem there. I go to Michigan at least once a year for games and it doesn't matter who they play they have this problem(opposite of Ohio student section when all the students leave after halftime). Good luck this week and the rest of the season(except 10/5).
  18. I am amazed at the misconceptions that ohio a&m plays mac schools because they are concerned for their athletic programs so therefore keep the money in state or because they are doing it for easy wins. The fact is schools like state need the mac type schools not for easy wins or to help them out but because it gives them 7 home games each year. MAC schools don't require home and home. Another big boy school would require it which would leave state with 6 home games a year which would leave a huge whole in covering the athletic budget for the entire school. This scheduling will and can not stop. State needs the mac type schools more then we need state. Another thing to consider in my argument was why the 12th game was added in 2006 in the first place. It was simply done to have another game for the big schools to cover their budgets. It works out for the smaller schools also as well. I am also amazed most of the people who complain about big boy scheduling have absolutely nothing to do with the school other then being fans. This especially applies to Ohio State. People like that Plain Dealer reporter should know better. His column is a joke. Oh Ohio State would have lost that game to Toledo if it hadn't been for home cooking. I won't comment on the 2008 Ohio- Ohio State game since I am a Ohio fan.
  19. Hi , Ohio fan here but love coming to Akron for games. Hang in there guys, you have the right people in place , it will get turned around. Will be seeing you on 10/5. Love the fight song, it is one of the best(nice to hear one that is original to that school also). david
  20. Michigan fans will treat you great(i'ts not ohio a&M). Once again park downtown in the garages and check out the campus. Law Library at night is quite a sight and the city has great adult establishments. Maize and Blue Delli is a must if you have the time.
  21. if ohio plays against you the way the played against miami today you will win the tournament. For 3/4 of the game looked like a repeat of the winthrop game. Keep you chins up zips.
  22. hello new here, hope you guys have a great year this year. I always enjoy visiting your great university to watch either football, or basketball. You have the best college stadium in ohio, , the best alma matter, a figt song that's hard to beat and of course zippy. The football team will be back too. Bad break with the schedule. I see a few mentioning the Michigan game. I go to Michigan twice a year for football, you should have a great time. The best rows to sit in would be probably about 40 through 70. You as the visiting team will have seats high in the corner but they are still good. The only bad seats are down near the field, both for sight and sound. You miss a lot of the sound down below in a bowl, especially the band. If you bring your band(I hope you do, it is great) they will be on the field in the southeast corner by the team bench. If you don't want to pay $50 to park on the golf course on the south side of the stadium I have a great recco. Park downtown in one of the parking garages. It will only cost you 8 -10 for the entire day and you can enjoy the city and the great Michigan campus while you are there. Yes it is probably a mile walk to the stadium but if you park at a private lot on saleen for 20 you will have just as long a walk. Michigan is also the easist places to get out of even with 113,000 people there. The law library at night is a must see when when in an arbor.. Some great pubs there also and the maize and blue deli is a great place to eat. Finally back to the game if you don't want to sit in the designated visitors section there are always tickets that come available around august 1 on mgoblue.com you can purchase over the net. Hope you guys do well.
