  1. as numbers of folks including myself have already stated,if he goes prep and qualifies he won't be coming to akron...tressel or some other big time program will give him a year...
  2. dambrot is pretty tight about the way he recruits and coaches...unless he broadens his horizons what you have seen is what you will get...
  3. That's a little rough. Great team, NO. But they did win 24 yes 24 DIVISION ONE games. From someone who was there when we were an Div II Independent and played such lumenaries as Philadelphia Textile and Kentucky Wesleyan, I think it's pretty darn good. not a big akron bball fan either...but i also am old enough to have gone to those 'DII" games at memorable hall, the turners, len paul, harvey glover, wyatt webb etc...the difference is akron was playing at the top of its chosen level of competion back then...it happened to be 'DII' or whatever they called it but akron was one of the most competetive teams in that division...that obviously is not the case anymore but fans knew the quality of the team and the competition and jammed that place almost every night...
  4. because they are good...
  5. I've seen worse.there's any underwhelming endorsement...
  6. \Saw the same thing. He will never play a down for Akron. He doesn't really want to be here.as claude rains said in casablanca...i'm shocked,shocked...etc etc...if you know the movie you'll know...seems like what appears to be,isn't...lets see what happens on the field in september eh?
  7. howard may graduate but may not have enough GPA and or test scores to qualify..apparently he has or will take the act multiple times...he is having his hand hled in hs just to qualify...if he has to go prep school and makes it there who knows where he will end up...would be a shame to waste a tough runner like that which akron needs badly at lb..Is this the so-called trashing post you all are writing about? It didn't even sound critical to me! But I would request the poster correct the spelling and grammar errors and return it for a grade. i'll se if mi 3rd grade teecher is stil around...or is that u out theire miss folk?
  8. akron, like other MAC schools will have consistently 'good'(thats not sellouts) attendance...ad nausem...the only way to put a respectable amount of butts in seats is to win...the AD has already said it...people on this site can rant and rave about everything else.. they can profess to 'inside info' ...the bottom line is what the left hand number says at the end of november...i'll be there for every home game as well as some on the road..
  9. I could not disagree more. The key principle is INTEGRITY.The players, the coaches, the fans, the community are all affected by personal integrity or the lack of it.It has taken a while for Jody Kest to weather personnel problems on her team. She has done aremarkable job. Now she has the respect of the community and her players. No one is countingold basketball game loses. Now, I have no clue as to what caused Brett to be suspended. However, I do know his father personally.I would not care to be Brett right now. If any of you think coach Dambrot is hard on Brett, you haveanother thought coming. Phil McKnight is a no nonsense upstanding man. He will right his son. Count on it.the argument that somebodies father is going to have a huge impact on a college student might be called into question...personalities and behaviors are normaly in place long before people reach the age of college athletes...
  10. I don't know...I don't really agree with this. We should beat Indiana. We should beat 'Cuse. I don't know anything about Kentucky. We may lose all three, but if we're afraid of playing schools like this then we should just drop football.tell us why the zips SHOULD be syracuse...please
  11. I can think of several, but they are all in the MAC. It isn't just the Zips, the MAC has become so bad that the best we can hope for each year is to not be run off of the field during bowl season. CMU saved the MAC from another disaster of a bowl season. I hate to say never, but I don't think there will be another Marshall-like MAC school again. I always tell you guys my wife makes really good points about the MAC and she made one last night that made me think about your comment. Where have all the great MAC players gone? And by great, where are the Roethlisbergers, Leftwiches, Penningtons? Lefevour was not the player these guys were, but his team won a lot because there just are not any stars in the MAC to take another school to a higher level. Specifically, she was talking about technology contributing to the change in college football. Players are no longer flying under the radar because of all the film on the internet. A guy like Roethlisberger would not go unnoticed regardless of his not playing QB until his senior year in HS. I know it hasn't been that long since he was in college, but try to think about nine years ago and what little information a fan/team could get about a player compared to today. That time period goes back even more for Leftwich and Pennington. I don't know what you guys think, but the world/college football has changed much faster than I expected.sure wish Akron would have a run like CMU...don't you?
  12. go to the JAR and do it
  13. so buy a season ticket...go to the athletic department and give them your name and money...otherwise there will be plenty of good seats available this year...
  14. So when can they raise ticket prices? What if they are good next year and they only charge $10 per GA ticket? Can they raise prices mid season because they are good? Can they go back to season ticket holders and ask for more money to get in the door? Do we refund money at the end of the year if the team isn't any good?I understand what you are saying. The MAC stinks, but twenty dollars is cheap enough. If our AD lowers ticket prices next year and starts the give-a-way deals UofA has historically called "marketing", the guy should be shown the door this time next year. Lowering ticket prices is the lazy man's way of selling them. I don't think that lowering prices is going to turn out more people. What they can do to turn out more people is have games on Saturday when the family can go together instead of weeknights. What they can do is make a good game day experience. What they can do and need to do next year is win more games. What they can do is show some level of competency on the field. What they can do is have as many games at home as early in the season as possible. What they can do is play games at times when someone wants to spend a nice afternoon outside in the fall before the sun goes down along with the temperatures followed by rain. What they can do is have good food at the stadium. What they can do is get the students to turn out for games. What they can do is have clean parking lots and fun tailgating. The problem with lowering the price of any product is the difficulty in raising prices later. It's easy to lower prices, it's hard to raise them.Everyone wants a new stadium. Everyone wants a winner. Everyone wants new facilities. Everyone wants better academic programs. Everyone wants a new soccer stadium. Everyone wants a new basketball arena. Everyone wants to buy out the old coach and pay a new coach a bunch of money. Everyone wants non-revenue producing sports in order to comply with Title IX. Does anyone want to pay for it? The Big Phone Booth needs to be the motor that drives everything else. The potential earning for football is greater than any other sport. Lowering prices is suicide.Quite frankly, I think the football program has done more than it's fair share in driving revenue. It hasn't done much winning, but it drives revenue. What other sport do we have where we play as difficult of an OOC schedule as football (it's killing the program, but driving revenue)? What sport is going to draw the most fans this year? What other sport has the highest sponsorship? So should we put you down for a "no" on lowering ticket prices? YES
  15. howard may graduate but may not have enough GPA and or test scores to qualify..apparently he has or will take the act multiple times...he is having his hand hled in hs just to qualify...if he has to go prep school and makes it there who knows where he will end up...would be a shame to waste a tough runner like that which akron needs badly at lb..
  16. the kid from st.ed's cunningham may get some time as a frosh...looks like he has size and speed at the corner...you are right about the rb position...and that could be thin if martin stays hurt...sconiers or shrock may see some time as frosh also...howard? thats a huge gamble...obviously he is having his hand held to get eligible and is still having problems qualifying...they better hope he makes it this year...if he goes prep school and makes it some bigger schools may snatch him...i think IF the o-line gets back to where it should be and one of the wr recruits can contribute they'll move the ball through the air...there will be some people moved around on defense...gotta find a physical safety for the 4-3...they need to find a BIG lb to sit in the middle of that defense...
  17. He seems like a middle linebacker to me, but I bet he can be successful at both.I think he is too skinny. I am going to send the athletic department a few vats of peanut butter to his attention.thank you..watched him closely in the emu game..he had problems covering their tight end, working in space...might be a big safety in a 4-3 IF he can roam the field..The lbs were in zone against emu. The td was a flag route i think. the lbs were covering hooks and seams. I thought he did well in coverage for a frosh.wasn't just referring to one play...he stands out because he runs around but seemed to consistently have some problems with decision making when he had to stay home with a receiver on his side...he just seems more like a safety in a 4-3...let him run around and head hunt...
  18. whats the status of Seth Cunningham(St Ed DB)?
  19. regardless of who is carrying the rock, coach I needs to eliminate the damned shotgun draw/too slow to develop inside running scheme. That never had a chance of working. Line up and smash it down their throats.ianello i believe has already said he won't be running the spread..so he nneds to find 2 dependable rbs and an fb...not to mention a tight end...IF martin was healthy he would be the #1 but his knee will probably not allow thatits a crap shoot until the season starts and one of these guys steps up..or not...
  20. These positions will be fine. What we will need are WRs that can get open and catch the ball down field. Does anyone know who that will be?I'd like to see the TE in the offense more. For example, they need to block well if the Zips can get the ball down by the endzone.the same concern about rb was posed before last year..the same response was given by a number of folks...it wasn't fine last year...until we see who these guys put on the field we won't know if it will be fine..The lack of ability had nothing to do with the players last year and everything to do with a coach who couldn't get everyone moving in the right direction. If the new coaching staff can do any on field coaching at all, the talent is there at RB.Again, nobody has answered the question. Who are the big play WRs going to be next year? We have a QB with a cannon for an arm and we need to find a way to use it to throw the ball down field and not hand off the majority of the time.MAC schools are horrible at playing from behind. The Zips need to focus on big plays early in games that get leads and then if they want to try to run out the clock in the fourth quarter with seven or less minutes to go, I have no problem with that.Who are the big play WRs going to be?well,if last years coaching was the problem with the rb's,then since ianello was a wr coach that position should be no problem...he can 'coach 'em up'...nicely will make a lot of wrs look better...he'll get killed if there is no running game...fact is we don't know for sure what's gonna happen because the hc has no track record as an hc...fortunately some of the assts have experience...but as we have seen that doesn't mean much once the game starts...
  21. Consider the source. Dan Scofield?evreybody has at least one opinoin one way or another(kinda like butt cheeks)...until september gets here it doesn't matter..there is no way to judge a new coach in a new position...especially if he has never been a hc before...ianello will get his chance, probably at least 3 years if not more to turn this thing around...here's hoping he does...
  22. These positions will be fine. What we will need are WRs that can get open and catch the ball down field. Does anyone know who that will be?I'd like to see the TE in the offense more. 23. penna has been prime u of a recruiting territory...thats why it was hoped that a coach who was familiar with the area would be hired...on another note, how many of these 'early commits' have bailed since ianello was hired..rivals shows guys who committed summer and fall..are they still coming?
