Why would U of A want an 8-10,000 seat arena? They can't even get 3,500 people to the games now. It would be foolish for them to build that size arena. And please forget about LeBron..... he is an OSU guy, not a U of A guy.
I am just as shocked tonight as I was against Western. Didn't see that coming at all! Now, as hard as I am on the students behind the hoop, it was nice to see them there tonight with some energy. I will say though...I thought is was pretty crappy of them to say at the end of the anthem.... ".... and the home of the ZIPS." Not cool. (and my daughter asked me why Zippy was dancing during the anthem and not standing still.) Still a small crowd (lots of empty blue seats) but it seemed like there was a little more energy tonight. And.... No "TERRIBLE"s from the standing walk man guy in the corner...but he did start the "Z-I-P-S" cheer! Very well played game by UA tonight. Every night it is someone else contributing. Who would have thought that UA could ever win a game by 20 when Jake and Reggie combine for 6 points.
The moon has to align right with the glare off of the empty bleachers at Info to get the students to come to the games. It is a joke to see 46 students sitting behind the basket for games (yes, I counted at the Western game) .... and no band....and 1/2 of a cheer leading squad....and no Zippy. Christmas break or not, it's a joke.
I know that this is nothing new but I shake my head every time.... the Beacon Journal is a complete joke. How do they not have GT (or whoever is on the beat at the time) go and cover the game?
In 2006, #25 Nevada came to the JAR in a Bracketbuster game That too was a great game. I remember they had Nick Fazekas who was real good and the student section had a sign with his phone number. Dru Joyce was on fire that game. Akron Lost by 1 or 2 and had a shot to win at the buzzer.
More interesting than the upsets is that 6 of 7 road teams won this week, UA is the only home winner. Normally MAC basketball is all about the home team.
Come on.... I watched the game. The Zips D was intense and in your face...real aggressive. They got called for fouls that they should have been called for. When you have that style of defense, they are gonna blow the whistle. They let a lot go too. Just because the Zips had more fouls doesn't mean the refs were bad. 99% of it was the way the Zips played D. The moving screen they called on Big Dog was a good call.....he stuck his hip out and moved in to the guy.
