  1. One of his better write-ups. Unfortunately.
  2. Ah, what should have been.......
  3. 5 point lead with about 2 minutes left. Then shoot EARLY in the shot clock on 2 consecutive possessions ( 1 a 3 pointer). When is this team going to learn how to win??? Pretty basic stuff. Gave this one away.......
  4. ......and a power forward (or 2)
  5. Unfortunately we missed the game due to the date change ! Just watched the replay. Impressive defensive effort throughout. I especially liked the steals and breakout scoring. I gotta think that led to the better ball movement and 3 point shooting in the 2nd half. We'll see what this team is made of on Tuesday. Go Zips!
  6. Riak is indeed a good rim protector and adequate rebounder. However, when he gets an offensive rebound in close he needs to attack and either score or get fouled. Rather, he treats the ball as a hot potato and can't wait to get rid of it. This drives me CRAZY! Catching a pass is a whole other story........
  7. He doesn't want to.
  8. Once again we take the crowd out of the game with the dot contest. Ridiculous.
  9. I was just mentioning that to the Mrs.
  10. ........or the players are not listening to the coaches.
  11. Your point is well taken. But I think it's more than that. They simply show no interest in rebounding. Maybe they are expending all their energy on defense and there's nothing left when it's time to crash the boards. Not trying to make excuses but there has to be SOME reason for it.
  12. Why does this team refuse to rebound? That, along with defensive intensity, is something that they can control and do every time out. Shooting is more hit or miss (pun intended)
  13. Are you a psychic?
  14. I will now be unable to attend. Not a good way to treat a dwindling fan base.
  15. Great effort on defense, for 2 halves! I am very relieved. I liked Groce's postgame comment that the team was coachable tonight. Let's duplicate the effort at Miami!
  16. I understand. It's a balancing act. I just think there is currently too much focus on the quick fix. Any HS players he might have recruited in his 1st year would become juniors next season. I acknowledge the need to fill gaping holes with transfers but too much reliance on that makes it hard to get off that treadmill.
  17. Agreed. However, I think 'tragic' would be a better word. I wish Groce would abandon the 'quick fix' approach with all these transfers. Too much roster turn-over from last season and it's likely to happen again. No stability. I understand that he has aspirations beyond Akron, and I don't hold this against him, but I think the best route at this point is to start recruiting 4 year players, OF CHARACTER, that can rebuild this program. Not major program rejects and/or JC problem children. If he is indeed the talented coach that we think he is, good things will come. For him and our team. my 2 cents..........
  18. Something is wrong and it may not all be Xs & Os.
  19. Character matters.......above all else!
  20. Are you kidding me? There is no place for this.
  21. Does anyone know Gueye's history at SC? Why did he transfer? Shocking! How was this not stopped before Marc was beaten to unconsciousness?
  22. I caught the 2nd half of the Iowa / Northwestern game. Iowa started the 2nd half with no defensive intensity. NW ripped off 8 unanswered points in less than 2 minutes (sound familiar?), taking command of a game that was tied at the half. During the ensuing Iowa timeout, their coach demonstrably ripped into his team without calling out anyone in particular. The team responded nicely, playing solid defense, regained the lead, and cruised to a 10 point win. On the road. I found it very refreshing.
  23. Riak has trouble catching the ball let alone attacking the rim. His strength appears to be shot blocking. Looks like a one dimensional player. I think Sayles has a much bigger potential.
