  1. It's official. BG is staying in the East...according to a Temple Football news release issued today."After being an affiliate member of the MAC for the past two seasons, 2007 marks Temple's initial campaign as a full conference member. The Owls will play in the MAC East Division with Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Can't State, Miami and Ohio. Under the leadership of second-year head coach Al Golden, Temple will play eight league foes in 2007, including four at home, in what will be their 109th season of football."To read entire news release:http://owlsports.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/.../022607aaa.html
  2. Sorry, poor excuse. If the Zips would ever rip off 9 consecutive 20 win seasons, mulitple NCAA berths and in turn barely draw an average of 3000 fans during another 20 win season, I would seriously find another favorite team and disown my alumni. Thats embarrassing and pitiful. What it shows to me is that Can't has had no idea how to market and build a fanbase. 10 years of winning and you can't develop a solid following...its a small 6000 seat arena with cheap tickets....it's not that hard with winning...That is the pinnacle of failure....it's classic Can't....It's why 10 years of consistent winning in Akron and additional corporate suppport that comes with it, you're talking about building a larger arena to handle the crowds, not worrying about getting a thousand additional fans out to a game. Think Big. Dont think like K.E.N.T. I agree Z.I congratulate Can't for their success on the court. However, their fan base is pathetic. Can't fans have no business talking smack when it comes to attendance or faithful fans.
  3. Yes there was...and as usual, my cameraman missed the shot.
  4. After 9 20 win seasons and you still have a following like that, I guess Can't won't be the next Gonzaga. What's it gotten them?I would hope that if we achieve the success Can't has on the court that the story would be quite different.
  5. You should have been there when Moses brought down the tablets.I was there. I covered that story!
  6. Nice preview of tonight's game in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.They, mistakingly in my opinion, say the Zips still have a shot at an at-large bid. They also bring up the LeBron connection.Interesting fact, Coach Dambrot's Dad was a Duquesne star in the early 50's.I did not know that!http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07057/765075-135.stm
  7. That's right...I forgot about him. Nice Guy...former Channel 23 (ABC) shooter. The other two live in far, far away parts of Portage County.
  8. Oh contrarr mon frar!I think you are a bit confused over some radio vs. TV terminology.Yes, they still "chart" tapes.Charting tapes is the act of watching the game as it is taped, and marking down the time code of when something that may be included in the highlights happens."carting up" tapes is the act of dubbing a commercial or song or jingle to an eight-track looking kind of tape, usually used in radio, however, some TV stations did use them for audio recording purposes.I believe most radio stations are now digital, however, I'm sure you can still see some, mostly in the smaller markets, still using carts.WNiR still uses them.
  9. I remember that very well.Wasn't CSU in the AMCU8 at the time? That conference had a lot less cred than the Horizon League, which made the accomplishment all that more impressive."Run and Stun," coach Mackey
  10. This would be great experience for media majors.I'm not sure how the U is set up these days, but when I was on the Hilltop, all the TV editing equipment was in Kolbe Hall..right next to the JAR. I think it is still there since they consolidated the communications department from Guzzetta.Tape the video feed from the scoreboard and edit that baby down to the highlights.Have the kids charting the tapes as the game goes along. This is what we had interns do at Channel 8. This would be great experience. They could also put highlights to music and play the best of the best on the scoreboard during games. And, of course, all of this could be streamed on the Web.There is just unlimited potential here.
  11. Yuengling!!!!Bring back some Stoney's.Even a case of IC Light would be nice.or perhaps Robin Hood..."Hear ye men of adventure, join Robin Hood for a truly satisfying cream ale."
  12. Such is life in TV news.Still, I think Akron could get a lot more milage out of the Web.Stream the post-game audio...FOR FREE.Stream game highlights...FOR FREE.To me, all this Web stuff should be a no brainer.
  13. Beacon has us as 7 pt favorites. Will it be down to 5 in the Canton Repository??
  14. Plain Dealer has us as 9 pt. favorites.
  15. Fear...it doesn't work that way.None of the shooters for the Akron Bureau live in Akron..and besides, they're not going to bring a guy in on overtime just to shoot Zips highlights. They do not staff the Akron newsroom on the weekends at Channel 3, which is also TWC 23.The part he said about sending a shooter and him being called off for weather makes all the sense in the world...that's how it works...unfortunately. Weekend resources are always thin. Shooting something like Zips highlights would be done inbetween stories. Now, concerning OU, that's pretty good that they have a satellite uplink, which would be necessary to beam up video to the bird.OU is known for their media and journalism departments and I'm sure being located out in the sticks makes having an uplink a necessity for such things.I'm pretty sure Akron does not have an uplink. They are very expensive to own and also expensive to rent...just to send up video to stations who may not use it anyway. And if they decided to edit, then drive the tape (I would assume from the scoreboard feed) to the Cleveland stations, I'm sure they wouldn't make it in time for the newscast. So, I'm afraid that if the Zips are not televised, where the stations can peel off video, we're going to have to depend on them sending shooters to get highlights on the air.Concerning Channel 19, remember that on the 10'oclock news, which they produce for Channel 43, they have a full 15 minutes of sports from :45 to the top of the hour...which gives them more time to include things such as Zips highlights.
  16. You can doubt it, but Andy Baskin told me (and I quote) that he had Can't Highlights "because Ohio University provided them." According to Andy, "Ohio provides highlights because they are not really close to any TV markets." I went to grad school at Purdue and for non-televised football games (usually nonconference early-season games), the local TV station would sometimes air clips filmed by Purdue itself, with the onscreen credit "Courtesy: Purdue Jumbotron" or something like that. So I don't find it really suspicious that OU would have provided highlights to WKYC (or any other station). Are you talking satellite coordinates?
  17. I've never heard of a University offering highlights to any television station. As stated in my previous post...the OU game must have had a video feed on the satellite (televised), that's why their game made the air.Channel 5 sending a camera has nothing to do with anything when it comes to what the other stations can air on their newscasts.Even if UA drove highlights to each station, they probably wouldn't air it because:-it was shot by a non-union photographeror-other news, like the ice storm, shortens the sports hole where they just wouldn't have time for it.Guys, you've got to remember that even though we are Zips fans and take this stuff seriously, that the guy on the lawn chair in Parma really doesn't care...and that's what the stations have to take into account when putting their news together.
  18. Here's the reality of the situation.I'm betting the Can't OU game was on TV and it was easy for him to pull highlights off the bird (dish), where our game was not on TV. They would have had to send a shooter to the JAR, and crews are always light on the weekend.I'm sure it is not a deliberate slight.Anyway, Baskin has been canned....he's just serving out his notice. He'll be gone in a few weeks, which in my opinion is too bad. He's one of the better sports guys.
  19. After winning five in a row, Duke Downtown has lost five in a row, including a close one to St. Bonnie tonight.Looks like the Dukes don't have much to play for Monday night either.
  20. 5,221 attendance tonight...
  21. Fear...there you go! The winning solution.
  22. They should also stream the post-game interviews on gozips.com.That's a no brainer.
  23. What is it...like a Fathead or something?Yeah, I agree...it should either be of a player or maybe Zippy...at least have something to do with the school. But then again, I'm sure something will screw up...like the blankets half the football season ticket holders never received.
  24. Well said, CK. These guys have a bunch of games to win to be even thrown in the same category as the Demetric Shaw led flushes. A whole bunch & not much margin for error. Now if DJ & RT go out there & sink free throws to take UA to new (DI) heights .. then perhaps they'll have earned it. As it stands now, I don't put them in the same category as the Cricket. Sorry.I watched him his entire career. He didn't hit me as "retired-number material" like Joe did.I was very surprised to see his banner.
  25. Steve:I couldn't agree more.Blaming the refs for our lack of free throw shooting ability is wrong.Face it...if we make the foul shots, we win.But we didn't and Miami did.End of story!Congratulations on your win. =>I do not think free throws lost Akron the game.Akron was 16-24 = 66.7%Miami was 13-20 = 65.0%Thus Akron was the better free throw shooting team.******If you argue that if Akron would have shot its normal % things would have been different, then you must also consider Miami's failures last night. Miami for the season is 270-390 = 69.2%. Therefore, Miami was off for the night by 4%. If Joyce makes both, we win.
