  1. I'm kind of thinking the same thing. Although, until the next Olympic Games comes around, nobody you mention his name to would ever have any clue about this story.
  2. I saw that earlier. He might be having some fun, but it must be pretty embarrassing that the incident ended up getting publicized.
  3. Before you mislead anyone, please note that ZipsFest is now inside the Stiles Fieldhouse. It became an indoor event starting mid-2015 season. Which reminds me: We all got pretty tired of the rain all of last season. We've gotten our payback with some tremendous weather so far this year. Could it possibly continue? It may be a little cooler this Saturday, but it's possible that we might be rain-free again.
  4. It's a source of pride for me as well. I love that our program rewards that, and nurtures it. This is in such stark contrast to some of the kids that are sent into the next phase of their lives from other programs without the benefits of being at a school that has a culture where they learn accountability and discipline. Nobody looks at JB or March and says, "There's that idiot from Akron". And I don't feel sorry for the schools who have to live with that legacy, because they fail to realize that the culture in which they operate created it. Are you kidding? It's sad that someone like the ABJ spends infinitely more time talking about morons like that "We Ain't Come To Play School" guy, and will completely ignore an inspirational story like this. I'm sure you can insert the "We do what we think will sell papers" excuse here.
  5. I have to say this... I'm never disappointed when we offer a scholarship to a guy who's not heavily recruited by other D-1A schools when they are someone of high character with a great work ethic. I'm proud to have those types of players to add to the integrity of our program. And if they happen to develop into a major contributor, that's simply a bonus.
  6. Sometimes you can make a lot out of guys that size in the MAC. Humpty comes to mind. He was about the same height. When a guy can play, he can play. Maybe he can't defend in a conventional sense, but maybe his quickness will allow him to get to some loose balls. So, he can contribute defensively in that way.
  7. Help me out. Who are we referring to here?
  8. Many people at a public University are involved in fundraising. It's a necessity today, more than ever. But lets not forget that the President is the top MANAGER of a University, even if the board sets their parameters by approving the budgets. And there's so much more to the relationship that probably doesn't need to be discussed here.
  9. And that's the way it usually happens. I think there's a number of people that will be attempting more shots. New players will get opportunities too.
  10. 1) EMU is probably due for a good year once every couple of decades or so where everything falls their way, just like Kent. But, I still don't think this is the year it happens. 2) I'm shocked that they put us ahead of CMU. 3) I'm even more shocked that they think that BG is the worst team in the league. They aren't good, but still good enough to beat some teams in this league.
  11. I watch some people criticize his dynamic style at times, but he was nearly heroic in the MAC title game last year. I'll take it, even though I am often critical of "wreckless"-type players. Sometimes you just need someone to make a play, and he's that kind of player. I actually once heard Keith say that Antino has the ability to score 15 each night. I thought that was a pretty big endorsement of his ability.
  12. We had used some "old gold" unis at times all the way back in the Huggins era too. It makes us a little unique. I think our gold color is VASTLY underused. Both in uniforms, and fan gear.
  13. Hmm. I wish that were possible, but I think we're a little bit off on the math here.
  14. I sure hope so. Not only do they need an update, but I think the entire nation must be starting to believe that Akron's colors are Blue and Silver. That never made any sense to me at all.
  15. Haynes was probably thinking "Damn...I thought I was the only one with a QB surprise today". Kent using all 3 of their first half timeouts early in the game has to be some kind of record.
  16. I wish we could count this Saturday's win before it happens It's only 5 straight. UMass, Miami, Buffalo, Kent...and then Kent again.
  17. During what time frame? Are you talking about when it changed from showing the vertical lines to being a solid color backdrop? Because, prior to that, everyone called it the Moving A. I actually don't remember that someone started calling it anything else after the change, but maybe that's right.
  18. Very funny. Actually, the "Moving A" started on a Gold helmet, after Gerry got us into a Notre Dame type look. So, that dates back to the late 80's. But after Elliott took over as president in the early 90s, we ventured back to the "yellow gold", and the "Moving A" went along with it. And actually, it changed a bit too. At one time, the "moving" part was a series of horizontal lines. Later (I think when it went on the yellow helmets), the "moving" part became a solid color.
  19. By the way, the "passenger jet" going over the stadium was a FedEx freight airplane. But I can understand how that would alarm some people if they didn't know that. From that respect, I'm thinking maybe it wasn't such a good idea. Probably some type of sponsorship thing.
  20. Thanks for the reply. If you had some way of getting that channel, I just wanted to know how.
  21. Hey Kreed, help me out. What Channel are you getting it on? I have only the Standard Package in one of my houses. It has 70 Channels, and one of them is not CBS Sports. I even checked the internet channel guide to be sure. http://www.aol.com/video/guide/tv/
  22. No, it's not part of the TWC standard package.
  23. If the weather cooperates, there's usually some people at this game who wouldn't normally come to a game, such as those associated with the homecoming festivities, and some of the frats/sororities that try to organize alum "reunions" around homecoming weekend. It's just always hard to figure how much that will impact overall attendance, since some of the older fans tend to start "no-showing" more as the season progresses, especially if it's colder. Like everything else around Akron, so much more could be done surrounding Homecoming. Other schools seem to do a wonderful job of creating a homecoming theme, and getting alums in attendance. I think it's part of the "disconnect" that Akron alums have, compared to similar schools Going "back to campus" for the weekend is something that alums look forward to every year at places like OU and Miami. Our alums don't have that desire. As an example, here's the All Roads Lead Home festivities at OU this week, which even includes a parade. https://www.ohio.edu/homecoming/
  24. Because we'd have a MAC East title, something we haven't had in 11 years? And a chance to play for a MAC title? Do you remember the 2005 MAC Title game? We were the underdog. NIU's Wolfe ran all over us for something like 300 yards rushing. Guess what? We still won.
