You can't review interference, but you can review whether a receiver was eligible.

Agreed. Horrible clock managment by Akron at the end of the game. Both on Miami's score, and on our last offensive possession. In addition: 1) If officials have the green light to call personal fouls whenever someone even touches someone's head, that's just plain bad for college football. 2) We're still going to have a tough time beating anyone legitimate until we get some people here that can tackle and cover pass routes with an remote level of consistency.

Correct me here if I'm wrong. But, even if we can somehow find a way to win ALL of those games, that's only 5 wins against 1-A teams. Meaning, 6 losses against 1-A teams. Does that still make someone bowl eligible? I've been withholding getting too excited about THIS season, until I see how we compete against Miami and BG. If there's any chance of turning a 1-3 start into a respectable season, we have to win these two games at home. But at the very least, they should tell us how we stack up against average MAC teams in the first year of the Bowden era.

You could be right. Again, it's just wishful thinking on my part that Akron Football could maybe benefit from disgruntled NFL fans.
-
I know this will probably never happen to any great degree, but people getting disgruntled about the NFL should make more of them gravitate more towards college football, which should help the Zips. And I am all for that.

I really think this is the most pivotal game of the season, if we hope to get new people from the local area on the bandwagon this year. It's the first of a 3 game stretch against teams that we haven't beaten in years. And I believe Miami is the worst, and most beatable, of those 3 teams.
-
That should shut him up.

It's interesting that Ken+ can win a football game against a bad opponent, when all of their players are running towards the correct end zone.

Cincinnati is definitely on the right track, and have been for years. 1) I think they've been ranked higher than OSWho 2 of the last 4 years. 2) You don't see people down there wearing OSWho gear to the games. In fact, their BUCkeye State shirts, with the UC shaped like their own logo, is a classic. It shows their allegiance to their local team, and their definance of OSWho. 3) Did you ever hear their radio station commercials a few years ago mocking OSWho? They are building a local culture that couldn't care less about the Suckeyes, because they are having their own success. Kudos to them. We will hopefully begin to copycat that formula as we start building again.

Ah Yes. The folks down in Cowlumbus know that method very well. Unfortunately for them, when you get banned for cheating, that doesn't even work anymore

It's "Ohio's Pride", but we'll give you a break because we know you're new I love your unbridled optimism. Not many people could get that excited about a I-AA win. I wish you could go out and recruit 1,000 more new fans just like yourself !!

I've never been yelled at by Stadium personnel, but I get told repeatedly to sit down by people behind us. It's ridiculous. When did it suddenly become illegal to stand at a sporting event?
-
I know what you mean. We used to be able capable of drawing those two numbers, combined, in just one game against a ranked team. The luster of the national championship and post national championship is gone. And for right now, so are the bandwagoners who heard that we were at or near the #1 ranked team in the country. Hopefully we can get that back. As I've pointed out many times, huge numbers of people aren't going to naturally gravitate to soccer without a huge amount of success. Football's home opener outdrew soccer's home opener by about a 4 to 1 margin, and they are on opposite sides of the spectrum in terms of success.

Unfortunately, the way they built the stadium, the best seats would have been right about where the concourse is located. I hate the idea of breaking up the crowd like that. It creates almost two separate crowds. I would have much preferred a bowl-like set up, with tunnels going back to the concourse.

First, lets understand a couple of things historically. We've only barely been over that 15k mark for any stretch, ever, even when we've counted by tickets sold, and usually when bolstered by a huge Acme/Zip game crowd to start the season, or being in the middle of a NCAA minimum attendance drive. This was even after experiencing seasons as successful as 7-3-1, MAC Championship contending runs, MAC Championship seasons, and post-MAC Championship + Bowl Game seasons. So, just reaching the 15k mark, legitimately, would be a HUGE deal. Reaching 20k would be unbelievable. As for your final sentence, if we are in the hunt for a MAC title this season, you could possibly see a 15k plus crowd this season. If not, I think you already saw your largest crowd this season back on August 30th, unless Homecoming draws in tons of alums. Remember, it would take well over 10k in single game and walk-up ticket sales to reach that number anytime this year. That's a big, big task right now, especially after seeing an attendance drop off of about 3,000 between the first two home games, even after the good performance at FIU last week.

Yes, nobody anywhere is going to take this win very seriously. But, the players on this team certainly love it. And so do the win-starved fans. I'll repeat again that the Miami/BG/NIU stretch will tell us if we are getting anywhere. Not a game like this, against a team that gave up 50-some points to Buffalo last week too. But, I did say that I was specifically looking at one thing this week. How well did we handle the running game compared to how Buffalo handled it last week? We gave up 2.9 yards per rush compared to Buffalo's 3.4 yards per rush. I don't know if that is significant or not, but I'd say it's at least some progress considering that we had to be the worst team in the league against the run last year.

I don't think it's bad for UA at all. They clearly state that it was simply a donation from Infocision for Naming Rights to the stadium. I'm just mad that they showed probably the most unimpressive camera shot of the stadium, looking across to the visitor side. They should have shot from the opposite side. Just keep one thing in mind here. Yes, this might be an expensive method to garner donations. But, as someone who's been on the other side, keep in mind that most of the bigger charities do many other things to raise money that do NOT involve high costs to obtain. And many of them are indeed able to report that a high amount of the total money they bring in is sent back out in benefits. This is merely one method of getting donations.

Now you're getting somewhere I never said that anyone quit.
-
I did indeed notice that those plays appeared to be a real departure from the normal offense. Yep....Imagine That !! When you don't see those things for a few years, which are simply adjustments to what the defense is doing, you forget that they actually happen during a football game
-
Me neither. And I agree that it's a very strong case for a hardship.

You should interject this opinion on another thread, where a couple of people are choosing to ignore FIUs scoring barrage in the 2nd part of that game, and somehow feel qualified to say that we proved that we were not fatigued. I join you in your interest in seeing how we defend the run this week. Morgan State ran for over 200 yards against Buffalo last week. So, if we can keep their rushing numbers low, that would certainly give some optimism that our run defense has hope of getting better sooner rather than later.
-
What is "selective math" about pointing out that FIU scored just 7 points on our defense in the first 29 minutes, and 34 points on our defense over the last 31 minutes and one overtime possession?
-
In regards to the first paragraph above, you must have missed my earlier post. FIU scored only 7 points until right before halftime. They scored another 34 points in the 2nd part of that game ! That's pretty tough to make a point that we somehow fared well against them on the fatigue factor. On the 2nd paragraph above, I say that we need to duplicate you several thousand times!! Please don't lose your naive enthusiasm !! Our attendance would triple overnight if people in this area thought we might be headed to a bowl game. But, I also have to remind myself that you were the poster who said a couple of weeks ago that you thought we had a chance to sell out the first game too. Inexperience can be both a blessing and a curse
-
Sounds like a solid precedent-setting ruling to me !! But, at the same time, can we ever count on the NCAA to be consistent from situation to situation? And do they even have any kind of accountability, legally or for the sake of "fairness", to make consistent judgements in these matters?
