Yep, I'm thinking that would be HUGE news, and would be all over the place. And we probably would have gotten some "warning", such as "only 5,000 tickets remaining for home opener". akzipper, I agree that 20k would be great.

Akron vs. Wright St. (Exhibition)
skip-zip replied to fknbuflobo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Agreed. That's a really bad place to ask for reserved seating pricing, with everyone walking in front of you all game long. I have to admit, I have walked to the Exchange bars on several occassions with my wife, at halftime of soccer games. The "no re-entry" policy would put a stop to that. -
Akron vs. Wright St. (Exhibition)

Unless they've added more bathrooms inside, they have to let you leave. Does anyone know the situation on this before we get blindsided by a new policy? -
Dave, Of course I value my friend's opinion. Surely a far more reliable source than a bunch of guys babbling on an internet chat site, so I thought I'd get his thoughts, and share them with everyone. He has been a high school coach in the Cleveland area since the mid-80s, and knows the ropes, and talks about these kids among other coaches. He thinks this kid was over-recruited at a higher level. I guess we'll never know now. My own opinion was purely based on the fact that a BCS level player has tranferred down to our level. If you're saying that Huggins thinks this kid truly belonged at a high D-1 level, then I hope Huggy is right, because it means that we could potentially have a superstar on our hands. At the same time, as much as I love Bobby H., I'm sure he's made many recuiting mistakes in his career, and will make plenty more before he's done. Lets hope for the best, as always. You just never know.

I think God decided decades ago that Ken+ State shall not have successful football, and little "acts of nature" like this are His way of keeping it that way.
-
Lets all hope and pray that the amazing talents of the staff has a far greater impact than the lack of talent on the field. I don't think you can expect much improvement until the players coming in are better, but I very much want to be wrong this time.

Season ticket sales this year vs last?
skip-zip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Don't make me compare percentages, or do any other math. Does anyone know..... Number of Season Tickets sold in 2011............................and the number of season tickets sold so far for 2012. I think the original post was a simple enough question. Does anyone have this knowledge? I don't, and I haven't asked. -
Thats the way it should be

Read my post again. I didn't get an opinion about how he'd perform as a MAC player, and I said just that in my post. I was simply just sharing an opinion about the kid that was given to me by a longtime high school coach in the Cleveland area.
-
Let me just add this. I finally got a chance to ask an old friend who's a coach up north, and is familiar with this kid. His opinion was that he was over recruited out of high school. Whether that means he can be a great MAC player is yet to be seen. But, I got the impression that he felt that WVU-level was higher than the level where he should have ended up.

Agreed. I still can't get used to the idea of my alma mater being associated with this guy. And I'm being kind, compared to how my wife still feels about it.

You must have missed the word "tragic" in my post. You may have also missed that it was specifically in reference to what is accomplished by removing past victories by Penn State from the record books.
-
Absolutely. I think the most immediate benefit is that Zeke will finally get to train and practice next season against a very formidable 6'-11" basketball player, and improve his chances of delivering us a great Senior season. We can worrry about how well Pat progresses later.
-
Totally agree. This wasn't cheating in athletics. This was criminal behavior by the a member of the coaching staff, and he hasn't even been on the staff for 13 years now. I can't think of any way this accomplishes anything, when producing wins and losses on the field was so unrelated to this tragic incident.

That's an absolute joke, in my opinion. Why pick OU or Toledo when you can give away tickets late in the fall to an afternoon game in Northern Michigan, when few people will go, the weather won't be good, and there will likely be quite a few thousand empty seats, thus making it a very inexpensive offer to fulfill ?? So much for the "extra" that we had all be waiting for.
-
You might as well just keep adding to the list. How about every buisness engaged in the sale of Penn State merchandise? I actually hadn't even thought about the impact on the interest in Big 10 football. And that was a league that was already struggling to keep pace nationally.
-
This is another sad part about all of this. And the impact is greater than just a small community. Criminal acts were committed against children. Let the criminal justice system deal with that. They've done quite a bit so far. If it were a matter of Penn State Athletics illegally creating an advantage on the playing field, then let the NCAA deals with that. Forget about the existing players and the new staff for a moment, although they are going to be affected dramatically. In this case, what's odd is that the NCAA may have just destroyed the economy of Central Pennsylvania. Think about the closing of businesses. The massive layoffs. And it's not just within the University system, where it will be staggering. It's also going to bury Restaurants, Hotels, Convenience Stores, Gas Stations, Etc. Just imagine all of the people who will be additions to the list of those who will pay a heavy toll when 100,000 people stop traveling back and forth across the state every weekend in the Fall.

It sure looked like it would be impossible to put last year into a "slow start" category with the opening road win at Miss. State. But unfortunately, we played some really bad games in the OOC after that. However, besides the Miss. State game, those bad performances were also mixed in with blowout wins against Detroit, Marshall and YSU, an OT game against VCU, and a near-win on the road at Cleveland State. I'll put myself in the category of "inconsistent" rather than "slow" in my opinion of last year's team.

Zips QB Clayton Moore will transfer
skip-zip replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Football
Couldn't have said it better myself. And their respective QB ratings tell a similar story, with Moore working with far less talent than Nicely had around him. Moore didn't do a lot here, but he sure beat the alternative. -

Since when does a discussion among sports fans where they question or have doubts about an individual decision made by a Coach persuade someone to think that we have all somehow completely abandoned our faith in the coach? It's not the first time (or the hundreth time), and it won't be the last. -

That's a big concern for me too, since I had been hearing that he might be leaning towards starting a Transfer Senior. I hope it's not a quick exit strategy, and I'll personally stick with my "the younger, the better" philosophy on how we select our players for this season, based on our current situation. -
I agree with you about his history with new players. But, this could be different. We are talking about a guy who was already contributing early in his freshman year at a far bigger program. I don't want to discredit Bardo. I loved the guy. But, I think I would be disappointed if this guy doesn't become far more than just a reincarnation of Bardo.

Maybe you haven't heard that the people who have seen Carmelo play are saying that he is one of those rare players who has the talent to come to Akron and be a star very quickly. I'd love to see it. A major impact player as a freshman is indeed a rarity.
