Interesting analysis of Jatavis Brown's play-making ability prior to the Chargers 34-35 loss to the Saints in which Brown led the defense with 7 solo tackles. On the Chargers message board, a comparison was made between Brown and the LB he replaced as follows: "I think the most telling stats are these:" 'In 38 games play, Te’o had 9 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, and 1.5 sacks. In 82 snaps, rookie Jatavis Brown has 4 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, and a sack.' "This is really mind-boggling. In just a couple of games, as a BACK-UP, Brown has now equalled Teo on forced fumbles, nearly equalled him on sacks, and has already defensed nearly half the passes Teo has defensed over three years! And Teo is supposedly our best cover LB. If we extrapolate Brown's numbers over three years, he'd be top of the league among LB's." l

Jatavis Brown had 5 solo tackles, 1 assisted tackle, 2 tackles for loss including 1 sack and a forced fumble, and 2 passes defended in Chargers 22-26 loss to the Colts. Brown replaced Manti Te'o who went down with a non contact injury in the first quarter. Brown was expected to start next week against the Saints, however this depends on the status of his leg injury. With 1:08 remaining in the second quarter, #57 Jatavis Brown strip sacks Colts QB Andrew Luck. Brown's teammate DT #91 Caraun Reid picks up the loose football and rambles 61 yards to the end zone for a TD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ppM-LnGzjY

Has he been kicked off the team?
-
They have plenty of big guys on the team that could get short yardage, they just haven't tried them yet.. For one, Christian Allen is actually listed as a fullback on the roster. Then there is Newman Williams, Brennan Williams, and Freshman Davonte Jest to name a few.

Maybe they should let Natson return kickoffs sometimes.

After being cut by the Jaguars last year, DE Nordly Capi was signed by the Ravens to their practice squad in October of 2015. Capi was subsequently cut by the Ravens in May of 2016. He was picked up by the Falcons in June. In the Falcons 17-15 win over the Jaguars, their last preseason game, #96 Capi had 5 tackles (3 solo) including a sack and a TFL along with 2 QB hits. This past Sunday, Capi was placed on the Falcons practice squad. Here are some things you may not know about the well traveled Capi.

Maybe they should have let the the guys who are making the game day scoreboard videos do the "Get to Know your Zips" videos instead.

Actually, Brock Boxen is starting over Hamilton at DT. Copeland is starting at NT. NT and DT are two different positions in the 4-3 defense. According to this article, the DT commonly uses the 3 technique (lined up on outside shoulder of the guard) and NT the 1 technique (lined up on outside shoulder of center). Additionally, these positions are usually manned with players of different body types primarily because of their particular job responsibilities. Compared to the frequently faster DT, the NT is often shorter in height for greater leverage, heavier in weight to create a barrier and clog the rushing lanes, and stronger. The primary job of the NT is to stop the run. The DT must also stop the run and is additionally a more versatile pass rusher.

It will probably play out like this: 2014 Kentucky Freshman 2015 Kentucky RS Freshman 2016 Akron RS Sophomore (must sit out due to NCAA transfer rules) 2017 Akron RS Junior 2018 Akron RS Senior unless he receives a transfer exception, in which case he would be eligible this year. Rodney Coe had 3 solo tackles including one TFL for -1 yard in the Dallas win over Miami. Coe would have been credited with a fourth tackle at 3:39 of the 3rd Quarter, however that play was called back due to a Miami penalty. Coe was mentioned as being disruptive from his DT position.

Injuries and dropped passes pile up for Wisconsin

I wouldn't be surprised if the Zips upset Wisconsin this year. They are leaning to start an inexperienced QB over a limited experienced one.
