  1. You knew we would have one more Zip enter the transfer pool yesterday. Player choice or Groce's decision? I would guess the latter.
  2. You and I are on the same page with regard to Groce's misses on the transfer pool last year with regard to Scott and Thornton not being the scorer we needed and now a clear miss with regard to Darrion. However, I am hoping he is learning from his "misses" from last year. I agree it is a waste of a scholarship from last year but it is a good move to cut your losses and bring in a player that has a better chance to help the team this year.
  3. If I am Tavari, Prather, or Nate and I see who Groce is bringing into the program to compete for my position, I am going to elevate my game this summer knowing that getting court time next year just got a lot harder.
  4. I do not know why everyone is upset. I think this late it is the coaches call and obviously he picked the player that he thought would not get to see the court.
  5. The transfer pool closes May 1st. How do you tell a student to leave when he will not have time to find another program? Does Groce find him another program?
  6. All season long Scott could not make a layup, Thornton could not make a foul shot, and neither could hit the 3 ball. We made March madness because of our seniors and some good play from Tavari in the quarter and simi final. Also, the brain fart from Kent in last seconds also played a role in getting to the tourney.
  7. We just lost our 4 best players to graduation including the MAC player of the year and the players that remain from last year were underwhelming. (Scott, Tavari, Johnson, Prather, Lyles) There is no way anyone can predict how good we will be next year as West Virginia Transfer U. With the transfer pool, this is going to be the new reality. I was so disappointed with our transfers last year (Thornton and Scott) that I am just wary of relying on new transfers. Lets hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.
  8. I am not sure this is current but not exactly a long list for Jalen's talents: Ohio State Loyola Chicago Virginia Tech ECU
  9. These guys are bench players from a power five conference who rarely saw the court. I am just not sure if I am thrilled to get guys who failed at a bigger program no matter how highly sought after they were after high school.
  10. We can only go up considering the transfers from last year. (LOL)
  11. On the survey please complain about the loud constant "music" during the football games that overpowers the speakers. Hate it!!!!!
  12. Multi year contractual is an interesting issue for players but I do not think that will solve the problem. If a player leaves and breaks the contract, the new team will happily pay off the old contract to get a star player. However, if a coach signs the player to a contract and he sucks and the coach wants to move on, the school will be stuck with the player or pay him for not playing.
  13. It makes sense to me in that if you are a talented MAC player and you can earn some money and fame transferring to a bigger program, why not sell your talents to the highest bidder. Essentially, Ali went to a bigger program after his success at Akron. However, I think we have found out that a talented MAC player does not equate to success in a bigger program. You also have players who believe they will get more playing time in another program and transfer like Deng Riak. I thought Tavari Johnson might be one of these players and I am glad he is staying with Akron. (thus far). Unfortunately, I think many of these MAC players might be overestimating their talents and can wind up with no division one offers and go to a division 2 program.
  14. I was joking when I indicated that he would go to the Dukes but I bet Dru is at least making a phone call to see if there is any interest.
  15. He must have read your post, now in the portal!!
  16. Had a really rough year coming back from injury. Was not the same player as last year. Rarely attacked the basket and just settled for a 3 point shot. Further, he did not shoot the ball well from long range. I would think the coach guided him to seek another team but that is mere conjecture. Although he was a great guy, this is addition by subtraction with regard to how the team will be next year.
  17. He is heading for the Dukes to play for Dru. Lebron plays one more year and then joins the Dukes staff as an assistant coach to coach his son and build a dynasty in Pittsburgh. You heard it here first.
  18. Does that mean you expect a Zip to enter the portal?
  19. As all of us who watched some very mediocre guard play from our most recent guard transfers and are salivating over Coit, I think character over talent is the right way to go. For those that disagree, close your eyes and repeat the following three times, "Bryan Trimble Jr." Feel better?
  20. I thought Thornton was a bust. He shot less than 50% from the line, could not create his own shot, could not drive to the basket, and did not have an outside shot.
  21. Dru Joyce got the Dukes job. Congrats!!!!! Do we now start a new Dur Joyce page? https://triblive.com/sports/dru-joyce-iii-takes-over-duquesne-basketball-amid-new-heights-challenges/
  22. Antino Jackson made a legitimate impact at the end of the 2014-2015 season. That is when the winner of the Mac got a double buy and it was Buffalo coached by Bobby Hurley. Antino Jackson started the last 10 games and played really well at the end of the season and we won Monday at the Jar, Wed at Cleveland and Thursday at Clev against Kent. And then Hurley did something smart, he pressured Jackson full court knowing this was our 4th game in 5 days and he shot 1 of 10 and we lost by 12. We just ran out of gas. I remember that game and thought KD should have had somebody else bring up the ball to save Antino's energy.
  23. What percentage of these players is the coach telling them they have no future in the program and being forced to leave? I think Garvin Clarke went to a division 3 program after leaving Akron. Maybe some of the transfer will be going down a division.
  24. As much as we complain about the Beacon, that was an interesting article regarding how gambling has effected the players and coaches, and not in a good way. Reminds me of the weirdest telecast of a Zips game when Barstools talked more about the over and under than about the game. Only a matter of time before some student athlete gets paid to fix a game. I can smell a scandal coming with all the money out there and student athletes not getting much or any money and all of the action that is bet on the college games.
  25. We have not heard about any Zip players leaving. The only player I thought might leave is Tavari but I hope he stays as I believe he has a great deal of talent but he needs to get stronger and play better defense. When you look at the remaining roster, I just don't see any players drawing any attention in the transfer pool. I think the only transfer we may have is if Groce tells a player he does not have a future with the team. Prather and Lyles saw the fewest minutes on a team where the subs struggled so that may be a possibility although Prather is a red shirt frosh and has 3 years to improve.
