I agree. For "life long Zips fans" what made this season especially frustrating was the expectation that this season was going to be better. With the near misses against Temple and Indiana, there was an expectation we would win in the MAC. As "life long Zips fans" we should have known better.

Who knew the win against Morgan State would be the highlight of the season.

A quarterback coach breaking down when a quarterback is ineffective. Sound familiar? One of the best-ever explainers of how costly sacks are was David Cutcliffe. Now retired, Cutcliffe was the fellow who coached such unhesitating, flashing recognition into both the Mannings, first at Tennessee with Peyton and then with Eli at Ole Miss. Cutcliffe always likened the field maelstrom for a quarterback to “air traffic control, and it’s fast.” He wanted such decisiveness from his quarterbacks that he got impatient if a guy even hesitated over a menu. He swears he used the “menu test” as a recruiting filter. If a kid paused and said, “What looks good to you?” Cutcliffe crossed him off the list. The Mannings under Cutcliffe learned to make judgments in just three clicks, “Presnap, post-snap, alarm,” Cutcliffe demanded. Presnap assessment was about making sure you were in the right play and protection, or adjusting it. Post-snap, you had to make an instant assessment as to whether your presnap judgment was right or wrong, and if it was wrong, “go like hell” to get out of it, Cutcliffe taught. If you got to the “alarm” stage, “Now we’re bad wrong,” he explained. “If you’re not careful, what you end up doing is making a decision by indecision,” Cutcliffe said. “And that’s the worst one you make. Decision by indecision — you catch yourself flat footed while you’re waiting for an answer. Any time you hold the ball, you have already made a mistake, because the decision is going to be made for you. You’re going to be sacked or force a ball or quite likely turn it over.”

Do you think we will ever have a home and home with the Dukes. Makes to much sense for it to happen.

Since I turned off the game early in the 3rd quarter when BG drove the ball from the 11 yard line and it seemed that the defense threw in the towel, the worst play goes to Coach Joe for calling a pass play with 30 seconds left in the half and third and thirty that lead to a fumble and then an injury to an offensive lineman who made a great play saving a touchdown and a BG field goal right before the half. I also give him an honorable mention for his penalty for yelling at the refs and turned a 2nd and 10 into a 2nd and 25 that led to the punt where BG took possession at the 11. We were driving the ball up until that penalty.

I turned it off in the 3rd quarter when BG drove the ball from the 11 yard line and scored a TD. It was obvious to me the d had given up and with no offense this game was not watchable. I just wonder if we are done for the season. When the d gives up, what is left?

It started raining and the defense has packed it in. We are done.

Talk about all the stupid penalties we have had this year, the coach decided he wanted to get into the action. How many games have you seen that call?
-
That should have been a BG touchdown. It was an easy catch. Cannot blame the defense for throwing in the towel in this game. As bad as Undercuffler has been, I saw 2 catchable balls that were not caught. I thought the punter made a great play on the bad snap. However, it was erased by No 74 on the offensive line who then held for a 10 yard penalty and then got beat for a 10 yard sack. The exemplifies this teams season, one step forward and two steps back.

We are playing like a terrible football team. Why even try to throw the ball on 3rd and 25. Stupid Stupid Stupid!!!!
-
The receivers have to help the quarterback. Daniel George, go to the ball if it is thrown short. That should have been a completion. He was flatfooted. Should not happen at this level.

If you want expectations, mens basketball starts in 3 weeks.

I just checked our record in the last 5 years (2018-2023) and we are 6 and 43 with a total of 3 conference wins. We have watched some really bad football the last 5 years. It is amazing that Akron football has any fans. Watching our offense last week for 3 quarters was painful, especially the decision not to switch quarterbacks until the 4th quarter. However, the defense this year except for Northern Illinois has been good and has kept us in games. The Indiana game was fun to watch until the very end. I am just hoping for a competitive game where our defense keeps us in the game and our offense is watchable.

I watched Bullocks high school tape and he looks amazing However, he had all day to throw and his receivers are wide open. It makes me wonder how do you evaluate a high school quarterback that is on a superior team that never faces any pass rush and can pick and choose to pass to wide open receivers. Obviously, in Akron he has players in his face and his receivers are not wide open. It is great that he is athletic and has a strong arm but he is not making quick decisions and has had difficulty throwing the ball. Are the high school quarterbacks that are on teams with superior talent at all positions and consistently win championships and break records overrated and struggle when college levels the playing field?
-
Outrageous? Paying $20 to watch Akron football this year.
-
I am adding to the list: Bullocks attempt to thrown the ball out of bound that was a wounded duck and was intercepted by Central Michigan. You may be a bad passer but you should at least be able to throw a ball out of bounds when the rush is getting to you. And the offsides on the CMU field goal attempt that eventually led to a touchdown instead of a field goal.
-
Everyone on this board watched Bullock for 7 quarters and came to the same opinion, he is not a division one quarterback. What is he doing in practice to get the confidence of the coaches?
-
Joe should have made a change at half time. At least we made it close and the 4th quarter was watchable which I guess is the low bar we have for Akron football.
-
Can our special teams not screw this up so we have a chance to win this game?
-
I would have gone for it on 4th and 7.
-
Our special teams are not looking so special. We lost 20 yards when our punt returner does not catch the ball and now a 20 yard punt.
-
Lets vote!! Undercuffler!!!!
-
I am keeping this game on just to see if he can move the team. For better or worse this move should have been made at the half.
-
They are offsides on the field goal and gives them 4 more downs. The ineptitude is beyond anything I have ever seen.
-
CMU is starting to run the ball with some big holes. Unless there is a fumble or another interception I see another score and game over.
