I thought they had done it before but my memory fades with age. I don't care if they serenade 5 people, it beats the blaring music we have now. I bet the students would also have fun roaming the stadium with their intruments entertaining the crowd
-
During the long tv timeouts, have a a small group of the band go throughout the stadium and do a 2-3 minute quickie song. It could be the drum line, tubas, trombones, or flutes do a mini concert. Have the dance team do a routine like they do during basketball timeouts. Do something other than have people get awards that nobody hears or listens to.

I cannot determine what I hate most. The very long TV timeouts. The loud music that gives me a headache. The speakers cannot take the high volume and it sounds distorted even if I like the music which is about a quarter of the time. Also, I like the chairback and now 80% of those seats are covered up at the opposing sideline. I will say the band stays engaged but that was about it until it bacame 4th down and we heard a little croud noise and the Zips were on defense. Of course they made the 4th down play.

I know this statement might be unpopular but so be it. When I would watch Akron under the Arth era, it was so bad that I would usually turn it off at half time because of the ineptitude. When I went to the occasional game I never stayed for the end because it was that bad. The defense was non existent and in most games we would be out of the game at half time. At least this year, we have been leading or could have won all the games but one game. I look at it as a murder mystery, instead of a who dun it, I just think to myself how are we going to blow it. At least it has been watchable football with a good defense. But for the ending, the Indiana game was an enjoyable game and DJ played his best game in some time. I know that it sucks to lose, but I will probably return to the stadium this Saturday because I know some day we will have a surprise ending and win a close game in the 4th quarter against a division 1 team. (Also, the fried dough is worth the price of admission)
-
Did anyone think we were going to win when it was a close game in the 4th quarter? My thought was how were we going to lose, fumble, interception or missed field goal?
-
Same experience except I sprung $8 for the fried dough. Worth every calorie.

I was at the game and estimating around 2000 butts in the stands including the band. Not only do you get to watch bad football, you listen to annoying music blasting into your ears, a million and one time outs, and you know that Akron will blow the game at the end if it is close. If they can speed up baseball, can't they do something about speeding up college football? Finally, did not see one happy face leaving the stadium so expect less that 2000 for homecoming. We are jinxed!!!!

Speaking of close but no cigars, I remember watching a late game in Hawaii to see if the Zips were invited to a bowl game. The team we needed to win had a big lead and then completely blew the lead and the Zips were the only bowl eligable team not to go to a bowl.

Thanks!! It sucks that Akron's list of near misses keeps growing each year.

Thanks Capt Kangaroo. I looked at that game but we lost by 17 so I did not think that could be the game but the failure to score and then the 99 yard pass play would be a 14 point turnaround and they must have scored another time so it must not have been toward the very end of the game. I just remember the Wisonconsin coach kept commenting how good Charlie Frye played that game. The times Akron has been competitive with ranked teams at their stadiums are few and far between. The one time we beat a ranked team was at the rubber bowl when we beat Marshall and they were carrying Lefkowich to the huddle because he had injured his leg. We actually pulled that one out.

It was great seeing DJ dominate the game and obviously we should have won the game but being the Zips, I knew that we would miss the field goal and lose the game. I am usually an optimist but I had the same feeling when the Zips were beating UCLA in basketball and somebody put up an analytic that we had a 98% chance of winning but I knew it just never seems to happen. The same feeling when the Zips were beating a bad Ohio State team in an NIT basketball game in Columbus and we still managed to lose. However, for those long time Zips fans, I remember a game when we were in a hugh stadium and our quarterback was having an amazing game like DJ and we got the ball down to the one yard line to win the game with a minute left and we turned it over on downs or fumbled. When the other team got possession they had a 99 yard pass play or run to seal the game. Does anyone remember that game and can tell me who we played and name our quarterback?
-
Our passing attack is so anemic can anyone remember DJ throwing a pass down field that could have been caught. When he drops back and surveys the field, I cannot remember one completion. He throws it quick on a short pass or not at all. He drops back and then scrambles. Sometimes for a gain but most times he just runs. The best plays were his design runs and quarterback draws. We still keep shooting ourselves in the foot with muffed punts, drive killing penalties, and dropped passes that kills drives. Unfortunately, we have witnessed bad football for the last 6 years and we thought this year would be different. Our inability to make a field goal is just piling on to this teams frustration. For the optimist on the board, the defense looks good but for the sack that wasn't and giving up a touchdown seconds before the half which is now an Akron sacred tradition.
-
That was a bad call!!! The center was at the line of scrimmage when the ball was thrown. He was not down field.
-
Field position alert!! First time in 4 quarters we have passed the 50 yard line.
-
We are not the only team with QB problems. 10th ranked Alabama has used 3 quarterbacks in the first half only scoring 3 points trying to find somebody who can move the team against Central Florida.
-
I love that story. I still say if a ref did not call a questionable offensive foul for a moving screen on him with 3 minutes left against UCLA fouling him out Akron would have had their first NCAA tournament victory.
-
We were due to have a team give us a game intead of us giving them the game. Great play by the defense to cause that fumble. Joe Pesarchic type play. Never thought I would see that again. Trying to figure out which Undercuffler interception was the worse. Tough Call.

This guy was a Miami recruit and had a lot of offers: "Of course, a player of Seymore’s talent will continue to be recruited by other teams, in spite of a standing commitment. Teams like Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Florida State all offered Seymore, and tried to build a connection with him, after his early commitment to Miami."

It is kind of amazing after all these miserable years that we still have interest in this program.

What concerned me is that DJ seemed to be yelling on the sidelines whether he was on the phone or speaking to one of the coaches. Akron also had to call 2 timeouts to avoid a delay of game penalty. You expect your quarterback to lead and what we saw on TV seemed to be the exact opposite. I can understand the frustration but DJ missed some receivers and did nothing on the run game which used to be his strong point. Also, on the miffed punt, it seemed to me that Temple did not give our guy the 1 yard halo he needed to field the ball cleanly and there should have been a flag.

Is this groundhog day? We have been seeing this year after year. How are we going to blow the game? How many of you knew that after the commentator indicated that the Zips line had improved and had not given up a sack that a sack was coming on the very next play? Or our punt returner who was catching everything was going to let the last punt go and it would go out of bound on the 4 yard line? Or that DJ would find some way not to finish the drive? (Pick one: interception, fumble, missed or blocked field goal or out or downs). Or that a Zip would commit some stupid penalty to end any chance of a come back? I am so glad we are competitive and the defense played so well, when will it translate into a W?
-
And there is the stupidest play of the game. An offside from a cornerback when we needed a stop. How many years can we still see this type of play from Akron.
-
Thanks!! I just figured that out after I posted.

Thanks for the heads up. Just signed up for espn plus to watch zips football and basketball. Another fix is to stream through computer and use hdmi connection to watch through tv. I will use that if cannot coonect any other way.

With Clarke gone I just looked at the large number of players who have come and gone in the past 5 years without graduating and the number of players who have transferred into the program I think Tribble and Freeman will be our first 4 or 5 year players in Groce's tenure. This is an observation and not a criticism but I miss watching players develop as they go through their 4 years at Akron. It has been amazing to watch Freeman's development. I am a little disappointed in the Tribble is a great player but I thought he would develop an outside shot. He is a fantastic athlete and I thought Groce could teach an athlete to shoot. Because of the transfer rule we will rarely see 4 year players in Akron and each year we will have a 50% turnover in the roster. Welcome to the new college basketball scene.
