  1. you are correct. there is a reason..... and as we stated numerous times on this post and others that mention him..... it is his height. that is what is keeping the bigger schools away. If he were beanie well's size but was running a 4.2-4.3 do you think he would still be on the recruiting block? probably not...... but because he is only 5'9 school are shying away from him.
  2. I am not very pleased with the choice. I just think that Jackson has more of an upside then Jaq does. But if CJ gets a chance to play against army... he will prove himself.
  3. Its about darn time that someone gave our most consistant defensive player over the last 2 years a little bit of respect! Congrads mackey, you earned it!
  4. his speed could put him on any major college team, his size is what is holding him back. But i do recall a back a few years ago who wasent huge, by the name of brett biggs and also bobby henry. They didnt do to bad for us then. In a college program the kid could easily add weight. But everyone knows that speed kills......... just ask OSU ( about the florida game)
  5. Just look at his 40 times and you will understand why we HAVE TO get this kid....... imagine him returning kicks, or even running the ball in the open field!Source: Beacon Journal.Just try to catch Carlin Isles Polar Bears running back is incredibly fast First-year Jackson High School football coach Thom McDaniels has seen his share of fast players. McDaniels witnessed an abundance of speed on a daily basis for the past 23 years as coach at Canton McKinley and Warren Harding, a pair of powerhouse football programs. Maurice Clarett and Mario Manningham are two of several players he coached who earned college scholarships and played Division I football. A select few, such as Mike Doss and Kenny Peterson, also played in the NFL. Although some of his former players were great, McDaniels said no one was faster than Jackson's current tailback: senior Carlin Isles. ''He is the fastest kid I have ever coached,'' McDaniels said of Isles. ''That's a remarkable thing to come out of my mouth, having coached at McKinley and Harding.'' Isles' 40-yard dash times and track and field resume prove that he is indeed fast. He ran a 4.28-second, electronically-timed 40-yard dash in February at a camp in Pittsburgh. Recently he ran a 40 in a hand-held time of 4.13 at the University of Akron. Those times along with his statistics 1,014 rushing yards on 167 carries for a 6.1-yard average and 12 total touchdowns (10 by rush) have drawn interest from college recruiters. Isles already has scholarship offers from UA and Ohio University, yet he is ''still waiting and seeing what else is out there.'' One drawback for Isles, a Division I second-team all-district selection last season who will also play defensive back, is his size. He is 5-foot-81/2, 158 pounds. Those vitals worry some college coaches, who question his durability. ''When I got to spring combines everybody was bigger than me . . . once I got out there and showed what I could do, their (college recruiters) whole perspective about me changed,'' Isles said. ''I have a lot of heart and I believe in myself.'' Isles, entering his second full season as a starter, said he is grateful for his gift. ''My speed . . . I thank God that I have it,'' he said. ''It separates me from other players. I can hit top-end speed really quick, sometimes I have to be really patient and wait for my block and then go. I try to emulate Teddy Ginn.'' This past spring Isles qualified for the Division I state track and field meet in three events: the 100-meter dash, 200 and 400. Isles finished second in the 200 and third in the 100 after winning both events at the Austintown Fitch regional. He won the 100, 200 and 400 at the North Canton Hoover district and the Federal League meet. His speed has drawn conversations about the Olympics, and Isles said that is a goal. Before any college or Olympic career begins, Isles must get through his senior year. He said McDaniels and his staff are leading the Polar Bears in the right direction with a ''West Coast offense.'' ''It has been a big adjustment from last year, the plays are totally different and we're running new assignments,'' he said. ''I am getting a lot more touches, rushing the ball and catching passes out of the backfield. It's an offense that revolves around me and I basically love it.''McDaniels has been impressed by not just Isles' amazing speed, but also his personality. ''He pretty much leads by example,'' McDaniels said. ''He is not a vocal kid. He practices hard. I might be demanding more of him than any other coach he has ever had, but he is responding to it very well.''McDaniels is realistic about what the team has and what it doesn't. ''We're not really fast, with the exception of one guy and he is exceptionally fast,'' he said. ''It's important to know who we are and do what we do best. We're not going to get bigger or stronger.'' Isles expects his senior season to be memorable. Seniors Paul Rohr, Adam Young-Murphy, John Wright, Joe Campitelli, John Swansiger and Mike Smith, and juniors Erik Carlson, Dustin Musser and Brad Holt will lead the way on the offensive line. Isles is also a twin, with sister Tambra Isles being just two minutes older. She is also a sprinter. ''We are pretty close, I am always nagging her and trying to make her work hard,'' he said. ''We like to tease each other a lot.'' When asked who is the better athlete, Isles said with a laugh: ''Me. I'm faster, bigger, stronger and better.''
  6. Canal Fulton Northwest.Nathan Klatt #72 Center6'4" 270lbsClass of 2009...... yes that i correct he will only be a Junior. Big kid with nice feet, alot of upside an would only grow in a College strength program. http://scoutingohio.com/Nathan_Klatt_Northwest.htm==============================================================Cincinnati Winton WoodsChaz King #29 LB 6'1" 205lbsClass of 2008WOW... anyone who watched this film will see that this kid is a HITTER. maybe one of the hardest i have seen on film in recent memory..... check this kid out, he could step in an help after the departure of Grant, Stokes, Mackey.http://scoutingohio.com/Chaz_King_Cincinna...inton_Woods.htm==============================================================MassillonKeith Herring #22 RB5'11" 200lbsClass of 2008Did a decent job as a back up to Former Massillion standout Brian Gamble. Figured to be the feature back this year until OSU bound Torrence transfered from canton south to massillion. Could be overlooked by many schools due to his lack of PT in HS. Might be a steal for a MAC school.http://scoutingohio.com/KJ_Herring_Massillon.htm==============================================================Cleveland Heights Travis Kelce #11 QBClass of 2008Very Big kid. 6'6 230. Has some impressive feet for a kid his size. Has a nice arm, but looks like he tends to overthrow his WR a little bit at times. Passes well on the run.http://scoutingohio.com/Travis_Kelce_Cleveland_Heights.htm
  7. bain is a monster, i seen him at meet the team an was thinkin gosh this kid is huge. he will be an impact player on this team, and help right away on the DL ( after sitting out a year)
  8. the sides of the metro bus's have the we are roo town ads on the sides of them. and i also seen the sparta bus down in canton with an UofA ad on it too.
  9. what could help us is that dawson was the teammate of bryan williams when they played youth football, and they have been good friends every since then. I will try to talk to either dawson or coach johnson soon and see if he is leaning towards the zips.
  10. yeah i just went to gozips to read about how todays practice went...... what a joke, it gave no info other then today was sloppy, an that they are all practicing hard. give us more info please!
  11. I seen on the board a few different times that SO. LB Al-Teric Balaam (6-1 235) was ruled ineligible. But on the updated roster ( updated today) he is still listed...... did he take a summer class to get things in order, or is he going to be able to play?and what happened to ryan brinson, i seen on the board that he transfered from WV to Akron, but he is not on the roster.* I was just looking over the transfer from WV who has to sit out this year (jeremy bruce) and it sounds like he is a WR who can help right away after sitting out his year. Here is what was said about him when he signed with WV out of HS......"The West Virginia football team landed an explosive, fast athlete Saturday when it received a commitment from Jeremy Bruce. The native of Blackhawk, Pa., exploded onto the recruiting scene with his performance at the State College, Pa., NIKE Camp".Source: Rivals.com * Walk on QB Kade Wagner from Green HS was moved from 4th string QB to the WR position.
  12. from what i was told, syracuse will be making a trip to akron when the new stadium is built, as well as kentucky and indiana.
  13. it seems like this year was very rough. i look for the softball team to come together in the next few years and do big things for the university.
  14. i have heard the rifle team is very close to being the top team in the country.... can we have both soccer and the rifle team win it in the same year? thatd be very nice.
  15. Pittsburgh: would be a very nice home game for us. They are always coming into this area for recruiting, so why not bring em here for a game.VT: We have had a home game against the Hokies (96 i believe) and we did pretty well, id like to see them return to infocision stadium for another one.Boise ST: a school who came out of nowhere to make a name for themselves. Beating them could be the Marquee win we need in our new stadum to make a name for ourselves.Nevada: I know this is a smaller less known D1 school, but ive seen them play an they run the shotgun option.... and well it was fun to watch their offense.North Carolina: This is a school that is starting to rebuild. They had a great recruiting class and Butch Davis has shown that he knows how to run and build a winning college program ( to bad he couldnt do the same in the NFL)Illinois: Yeah it is a BIG 10 school, but they arent a powerhouse in the BIG 10. They had a great recruiting class this year ( #1 in the Big 10, 8th nationally). They are also in the early phase of rebuilding their program so playng them would show us about where we stand since we are a program on the rise.and for the heck of it...... OSU. After we steal a few of their recruits this year (hopefully johnny adams) I would like to see them come play at our place since we have gone there and played them 3 times in the last 10 years.
  16. any update on the depth chart, or when it will be released? C.Jackson told me it should be out monday, but im not sure if anyone has heard a sooner time or not.
  17. Greatest game: Marshall on national TV when we beat them to send the m out of the MAC. and also the game in when leftwich had to be carried down the field.Worst game: Turkey day against Can't State with negative temperatures.... and i stayed the WHOLE game and also for the celebration afterwards........ the writing on the bleachers in the snow ( MAC east champs) was great. and also the Can't State game that they came down and kicked the field goal with seconds left and won 41-38 (2004 maybe)Highest Attendance: Massillion VS Mckinley (41,000, standing room only) in the state playoff game. Mckinley rolled Massillion by 24 points the last game of the regular season, and they turned around an drew them in the playoffs ( 1st round) and Massillion came back and rolled Mckinley easily to put them out of the playoffs. I was sitting first row behind the field goal post in a crowd of Massillion fans, cheering for mckinley...... man did i feel out of place!Favorite memory: Anytime i go to the bowl to watch the Zips is a great memory! But one of the tops was after we beat marshall on national TV on the long pass from C. Frye to J Mont in the right corner of the endzone and we all rushed the field at the end of the game. That play also made sportscenter top 10.......its not very often that the Zips get any love on sportscenter, so seeing it was great.
  18. I personally am pulling for Jackson. I think that his ability to use his feet if the play breaks down is very important if the OL doesnt gel as quickly as expected.
  19. There was a paperwork error with the clearinghouse, and it has since been fixed and he should be back with the team tuesday.
  20. I just spoke to a kid on the team about why Moore isnt on the roster or here with us yet and he said that his clearing house not been cleared yet but he should be here next week (from what he has been told) thanks for the Info man, you should know who you are if you come to the board
  21. I Just got back from the meet the team. It was a nice event, and i really liked how they had pictures of the new stadium for everyone to see. The team had a little over 3 hour practice this morning, and were all still very nice to everyone. The OL seems to be alot bigger then they have been in the past, and from talking to some of them they are gelling alot faster then OL in years past as well. One of the QB that i spoke to said that the OL is lookin 50 times better then what they did look in the spring. Overall I think that the team is alot bigger and faster then they have been in the past, and i am looking forward to this year.
  22. i asked a few of the playes about Moore today and none of them seemed to know why he wasent there. I was going to ask JD, but each time i got a chance to talk to him, he was speaking with someone and i didnt want to sit an wait.
  23. he is a big DT who played at hargrave military academy out of HS. was looked at by a number of schools but settled on akron to join a few of his teammates from hargrave ( almondo sewell, shane shead ). he has worked very hard to get his weight down an has done a very good job of it. at one point he weighed in at 360 LBS and didnt look very mobile, but after seeing him today (he is now 290) he looks alot better then back then.
  24. Today, Akron fans will have the opportunity to have a meal with the team as well as have an autograph session at the annual “Meet the Team” day. The event will be at the Stile Field House from 5-7 pm. The buffet dinner will begin at 5 pm and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. After the dinner, approximately 6 pm, the players will be available to sign autographs and take pictures. Also, there will be inflatables in the Field House as well as raffles, giveaways, music and more. While the meal comes with a charge, parking and admission for Meet the team is free. Hope to see everyone there.
  25. actually everyone there is still 5 QB on the current roster. Hakes would have made 6.C.JacksonC.Jacquemain M.Rodgers (true freshman from PA)K.Patterson ( Transfer from Sac. ST )K.Wagner ( walk on from Green HS)
