  1. i heard that he was ruled academically ineligible, but on the updated roster ( updated yesterday, 8-11-07) he is still listed on the roster. Shouldnt he have been removed from the roster if he isnt currently on the team?
  2. Im sitting here watching this cleveland browns game ( frye is doing a very nice job, lets keep it up) and not only did i see Charlie, but i see former Zips DL KiKi Gonzalez (#73) he has been doing a pretty decent job of getting penetration, but he just isnt getting the sack. Its not often that you watch 2 NFL games on 2 different days and get to see former Zips on the field (Alleman last night, frye and kiki tonight).See you all at the meet the team tomorrow.
  3. Former Zips G Dru Joyce has signed on to play basketball with a team in germany.
  4. who did we lose? i was at work all day an then went straight to football so i havent heard anything bout todays practice
  5. This past weekend, the University of Akron Athletics family lost one of its dearest members and strongest supporters in Louis Stile. Stile, who graduated from UA in 1943 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, was a highly successful entrepreneur and a philanthropist who always had a special place in his heart for his alma mater. Stile, 87, passed away suddenly on August 3, 2007. Last June, the University named its state-of-the-art field house after Stile and his wife Freda in recognition of the Stiles’ recent gift of $4.65 million to create the Louis and Freda Family Endowment. The endowment helps support UA’s football and basketball programs and/or assists students in need of financial support to attend the University.“Louis and Freda Stile are successful entrepreneurs with a strong commitment to the University and to Akron,” said University President Luis Proenza on the day of the announcement. “We are proud to have the Stile name associated with the continued success of the University and Zips athletics.”Added Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades, “The Stile Field House is the premier facility of its kind in the region and is being named after two wonderful supporters of the University and athletics department. Their contributions are vital to the success of our student athletes in the classroom and in competition. We are fortunate to have such loyal, thoughtful and generous friends.” Born in 1920, Stile was a lifetime resident of Akron and an army veteran, having served his country in World War II as a Captain following his graduation from UA. Upon his return to Akron, Stile began his lifetime career as a real estate developer. The Stile Companies (Stile Realty, Stile Construction and Stile Management) have been a fixture in Akron for 60 years. He was President of the Anshe Sfard congregation, Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, a Trustee of the University of Akron and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of Rosemont Country Club, Akron Homebuilders Association, Shaw Jewish Community Center, B'nai B'rith, First Armored Division Association, Hillel of Can't State University and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Stile was the patriarch of a large and extremely close extended family. He was always the one they turned to for support and advice and he never failed to be there for anyone. His passing will leave a huge void in the many lives he touched. He is survived by Freda, his loving wife of 65 years, his children, Joel (Linda), Shelley and David (Kathy); sister, Bess Rothkin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Syd Sude; grandchildren, Aaron, Rachel (Daniel), Sara, Jake, Sylvie, Zachary, Chloe; and many devoted nieces and nephews.
  6. http://akron.scout.com/a.z?s=333&p=9&c=2&c...28377%26fhn%3d1i cant find the story now, but here is the kids player link on scout saying that her verballed to W.Michigan, and that we as well as Kansas ST offered him.
  7. i must have looked at the wrong name, sorry for incorrect info.
  8. Schuler is a very good ball player. i sent out his highlight film a few weeks ago on the board an told people that he was a hitter. he will make a very good addition to our team.and about jarvis givens the email he responded with must have been a bunch of BS, because he said he will be coming to akron after taking a year at a prep school.
  9. we were close to getting a player from northwestern last year ( david arnold) he really liked the facilities and coaches, but felt NW was a better fit an he could play earlier
  10. A Prospect out of Illinois whom Akron offered has deceided against joining the Zips, and instead will join MAC member Western Michigan. He also had offers from Kansas ST and Cincy
  11. Just read an article bout this kid. He is said to be a big, speedy receiver who is starting to get attention from alot of school. He stated that at this point, Ball State, Akron and BG are his top 3 schools But Purdue, Michigan ST and Michigan have been talking to him on a regular basis. Below is his quote from the story. At this point, I have three leaders in Ball State, Akron and Bowling Green.I looked him up on rivals and scout and he was given just 1 star by both services
  12. Taylor Hill (LB) of Mooney signed with Oklahoma. ( you were correct YSU fan)Branden Beachum (RB) Of Mooney Signed with Penn State. (you were incorrect YSU fan)DJ Woods (WR) of Strongsville signed with Nebraska.Justin Staples (LB) of St Edwards signed with Illinois.
  13. The Zips recently extended an offer to Massillion Jackson RB Carlin Isles. This kid runs a LEGIT 4.28, and has been officially timed at 4.20-4.22 ( with 3 different stop watches) at a recent Akron combine. After watching this kids highlight film, I come to the conclusion that this is a kid that we MUST GET! At this point the kid only has a few offers, his size an weight are pushing alot of recruiters away from him. In college football........... SPEED KILLS and this kid has plenty of it. Below is his highlight film.http://scoutingohio.com/Carlin_Isles_Massillon_Jackson.htm
  14. good article. he is a great example of a player who is undersized but excells because of his heart. he is also one of the nicest guys on the team.
  15. not a good sign when 3 teams in our league are ranked among the worst in the nation.
  16. personally i think we would do better with the 4-3 defense. we have athletic DE's who would be able to drop back in coverage on different plays if needed, be able to get around the edge and get to the QB, and also help stop the run. We may not be deep at DL, but robinson, pendleton, lively, cechetti could all play DT then we could have williams, lemon, and a few of other recruits play the DE position.DT: Pendleton, Robinson, Lively, CechettiDE: Williams, Lemon, Little
  17. with speed like this, if its accurate... we may want to keep him at TE, could come from the same mold as kasperik (SP?)
  18. the University should buy a building from the city, and agree to move the aroma coffee shop into it, because that place is always full of police officers and other regular customers..... that way when the University leases the building to him and makes money off of the guy.
  19. reading bout the specifics of the stadium, i love the grass endzone seats. and pretty much everything else...... im ready for the new stadium to come quickly so that i wont have to deal with fiberglass in my a$$ anymore ha ha
  20. I will be buying my season tickets soon also.... but i might see if a few of my friends on the team can still get me a few of them
  21. I dont know if someone has already posted this but i just seen a highlight film for DL Shawn Lemon an this guy is a beast!
  22. i just watched the news an they said romeo crennell stated that charlie is the leader right now to be the starting QB for the Browns. Crybaby quinn better get in there an hope frye messes up so that he can try to move ahead of him.
  23. Ravelle Sadler of cincy colerain got his first MAC offer, and it wasent from the Zips. CMU gave him an offer. This is a kid i think we need to jump on early, because once the season starts and he gets the national exposure playing against national powerhouse Hoover (AL) on espn, alot of school will come after him.
  24. ive said it all along. this kid is the real deal..... look for him to be in the mix when camp starts.
