  1. Jermyn, Pa., athlete Justin Virbitsky (6'4 245lbs) currently holds four written scholarship offers from Akron, Buffalo, Duke and Temple and is being recruited by a number of different schools on both sides of the ball. He recently made two camp trips to Syracuse and Temple and talked about them as well as the other programs recruiting him. and below is what he had to say about akron, and each of the other schools that have offered.Syracuse - “I camped there and it was pretty nice on campus. The weight room and facilities were very impressive and it seemed like the players have a great opportunity to keep in shape with the equipment provided. Coach (Chris) Wiesehan is recruiting me and had been down to my school this spring, so he introduced me to the other coaches at camp for the first time and I thought they were all pretty cool guys. I think I could have done a better job at the camp to be honest. Syracuse is recruiting me as a tight end right now.” Temple - “Camp at Temple went well and I worked a lot with Coach (Jared) Backus at defensive end and did really well there. He recruits me and we have built a pretty good relationship at this point. Temple is definitely the school recruiting me the hardest right now, so we talk a lot. I am comfortable on campus there and was also at their junior day, so they took us over to the LINC where they play which is a great stadium and showed us around the campus and new technical center which is very nice. They said they like me at both defensive end and tight end, but it seems like they may be leaning towards tight end right now.” Duke - “Coach (John) Gutekunst is my recruiter and is a cool guy. Duke plays in the ACC and while their record has not been great lately they offer excellent academics which my parents and I really like and I would like to take a visit down there if I get the chance to.” Akron - “Akron was my first offer, so they definitely stick out a bit to me because of that. I played football at Lakeland with Joe Tuzze and am best friends with his younger brother, so I am going to try and visit them in the near future if possible. Coach (Mauro) Monz came by the school to meet with me this year and seemed like a very nice guy.” Buffalo - “They were my second offer and I spoke to their head coach Turner Gill who I have heard was an excellent college player when he was at Nebraska. He came off as a real cool guy and you could just tell he played back in the day. Buffalo is actually recruiting me as an offensive tackle and I am going to visit there if I can.” Pittsburgh - “Coach (Brian) Angelichio and I have only spoken once or twice and he wanted me to come out for camp there, but I couldn’t make it, so I am going to try and take an unofficial visit to get out there and meet the coaching staff. Pittsburgh is close to home, they’re a good program and I have relatives in the area, so that would be a good situation. They are recruiting me as a tight end.” Vanderbilt - “Vanderbilt is recruiting me as a defensive end, but they are so far away that it is going to be hard to get down there as the coaching staff has requested me to. I know that they play in a SEC which is a great conference and offer excellent academics. I am also a Jay Cutler fan and watched him play when he was there.” Connecticut - “Connecticut was actually the first school to start recruiting me and couldn’t decide whether they liked me more as a tight end or offensive tackle when I had last spoken to them. I actually visited there twice and thought they had the best facilities I’ve seen so far. I really liked it up there a lot and have interest in Connecticut, but I haven’t heard from Coach (Hank) Hughes in a while, so I don’t know what the story is with them right now.” Virginia - “Coach (Bob) Price and I met when he came up to my school this year and he told me they really like me at tight end. I know they run a very tight end heavy scheme down there and he told me I would play tight to the line for blocking as opposed to that slot type tight end they use. I am going to try and take a visit to Virginia this summer if I can.”
  2. what about gary pride? i know i talked to him a few weeks back an he said he was leaving to come an move into his new dorm. i know he runs 4.4, maybe 4.3 and has paul S recovered from his "gun shot" wound, and has he come to akron yet?
  3. i always thought (up until now) that the soccer team was the only team with any shot at coming close to a national title. congrats on the last 3 great years rifle team.
  4. can john mackey please get some respect from these "sport" reporters please. he has been our most consistant defensive player the last 2 years an he is getting no respect from anyone.
  5. I talked to a few different coaches from the city series, and I cant say which coach, but an assistant from Akron North also told me that Dawson is leaning towards Akron over the other schools that have offered him so that way he can stay close to his family, and they will be able to attend his games. He will be playing in a brand new stadium.....with a team that is on the rise...........a great fit for Larry.
  6. 55 million is good, because that is all it cost to build that nice bowl that UCF has. Maybe im crazy but i just like the feel of a Bowl alot more then i do that of a large scale High School stadium. The bowl makes it look and feel like college football........ the 2 seperate sides (like the pictures shown) is nothin more then Hoban HS witha few more visitor seats.
  7. Thats always possible considering we have Hakes who is young, and we also have incoming freshman Rodgers. With the lack of depth we have at WR, his size and speed could very well be the deciding factor if he is moved to WR
  8. Jordan Miller, a pro-style passer from New Philadelphia, verbally committed Thursday to Akron, his only scholarship offer. He has only started two games his sophomore year and 10 his junior year. His accuracy (101 of 216 passing) is a big concern, but Miller possesses a strong arm.Iowa, Michigan, Boston College and Kansas had been in contact with Miller, but understandably, they wanted to see if he could improve his accuracy before offering a scholarship. Miller is only 6-foot-2, but can run the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds.
  9. I was at this game. It was one of my good friends redshirt freshman year and i sat front row with alot of the other students. The best feeling was being able to rush the field after the game and seeing all of them marshall players cry. It was also nice hearing the radio show after another marshall game with the frye to j mont pass, and having people call in an say things like "way to send marshall out of the MAC, with a loss to Akron" .......and the left-wich, our bitch chant also was great after that game. very good night's for both the city, university and football program.
  10. i personally like the new stadium at UCF alot better then i do the one that hosts the D 1AA national title game. I have always loved the bowl design, and from what i have read it was only 55 million to build that UCF stadium, compared to the 54 million it will take to build the large scale HS stadium that EGUIN showed pictures of.
  11. akron was his leader over all the big schools who offered him, until pitt offered.
  12. i got my days mixed up. this working 12-15 hour days can take a toll on you. thanks for pointing that out though.
  13. Did anyone catch it, I wasent able to. How was it?
  14. I think that list was made up just to make people laugh. How can John Mackey be left off of the 1st team and 2nd team? He IMO was the most consistant player we have had on our defense the last 2 years, and last year he did it with a shoulder that was shredded to hell...... come on MACreport, lets show mackey some love, because he deserves it!
  15. I agree 100% with everything you said. The biggest problem for us will be..... finding out a way to get all of out RB on the field, because they are all very talented.Cant wait to see Davon Moore on the field, this guy has speed and size.Aaron Williams looks like he is wanting to rip heads off on each and every play, both as a defender and a RB.Gary Pride reminds me of a little bit smaller version of Reggie Bush with the way he spins, hurdles and outruns defenders. I have spoken to him a few different times, and he is very excited to join the team. He is already starting to talk up the Zips to former HS teammates at Powerhouse Colerain.Almondo Sewell is definatly a Bigger,Stronger and faster Rohr. Im glad he is a Zip.and also Captain, have you seen the highlight film of a OL we signed, Paul S?I think this guy is better then most of the OL we have on our roster now, and that was as a HS senior. I look for him to break into the depth chart (2nd string, if not starting)this summer. Here is a website you can go to to watch highlight films of Prospects that we offer.www.scoutingohio.com they have also started up one for PA and FL also, 2 states that we recruit in heavy.
  16. This is a huge loss not only for Indiana, but for anyone who supports college football. Hoeppner was known all through out the country as a demanding coach who was also like a father figure to his players. My heart goes out to his family and to everyone at Indiana University.
  17. University of Akron mascot, Zippy, will be featured on ESPN Classic’s weekly television program, NCAA On Campus, as part of its “Mascot Mania” segment. The show will be telecast on Wednesday, June 20 at 1:30 pm. The feature, which is scheduled to run approximately 20 minutes into the 30-minute show, gives the history of both the term “Zips” as well as the history of Zippy. It also shows Zippy in action at athletic events, on campus and in the community. check it out if you get a chance and write back an let everyone know what you thought of it.
  18. Its his loss...... hopefully we can get them on our schedule and show him why he shoulda picked the zips
  19. How big is this guy? I looked on a few recruiting webpages and i couldnt find anything on him. and also add the guy from iowa ( if the rumor of him coming to akron is true) and our DL could become one of the better positions on our team. (the kid was a 4 star prospect coming out of HS, and from what i saw on his highlight film the kid cant be blocked)
  20. Yeah, and to be honest. the highlight film that I saw of her she didnt do that bad. she mainly played special teams (PAT, FG) but i did see her come in alot during the 3rd down plays. She played for a HS that was pretty decent..... made it to the state tourney so for her to get any PT is both a suprise to me and shows that she can play with the boys.
  21. I am curious if any of the Zips recruits were invited to join the All Star teams. I cant see Gary Pride not being invited. I talked to a HS coach from the Cincy area this weekend at the game and he said they refered to Gary as Mr electifying. He also stated that Gary is one of the players who can break open a game at any given moment, an they actually had to have a "spy" who was assigned to watch only gary the whole game.....but it didnt really work because he had 4 TD lol. The more he talked about Gary Pride, the bigger my smile got. The only bad thing i saw from the game, is seeing a future Miami Redhawk winning the MVP award (givens) this guy looked like a playmaker in this game. Big, Tall and Fast.........he could give us problems, but im pretty confident in our DB's that we have now, and the ones will will have in the future.as a side note, the MAC was very well represented in this game, with i believe 14 MAC players on the rosters for the North and South.. I was able to talk to a future Cant State player (Vanderlink of Crestwood) and he is a very good and respectful kid. He looked like a good ball player in the few practices that I was able to see and he did have a few very nice plays during the game.
  22. is someone trying to insult the university of akron an its students or somthing. why would anyone print out a college shirt, but spell university wrong lol.
  23. wow......would make a great addition to our team. watch his film an he is a stud.......he cant be blocked
  24. johnny long? what happened to him? i told everyone a while back he was talking about leaving the team and transfering, but i didnt know if he did or not.....so did he?
  25. I'm as big a fan as anyone here of keeping good local talent. Apparently, every other Division 1 coach took a pass on Dan Dario as well. He is signed at D2 Fairmont State in WV.http://www.fightingfalcons.com/page.cfm?st...&cat=exclusives He chose Fairmont ST over the D1 schools that did offer him because he liked the coaching staff and campus mroe then he did the D1 schools that offered. Duke was after him hard, and Northwestern was also very interested. he just flat out chose farimont st because he felt he was a better fit an he likes the staff more.
