I just heard an interview with him and he said that as of last night he was granted his release to transfer from Notre Dame an he said his top 3 schools right now are Texas Tech, Hawaii and the University of Akron. After watching his highlight film on rivals.com i am starting to think he would be a good addition to our team, but we already have 3 QB's fighting for the job now and in a few weeks Rodgers will be joining the team and adding to that QB battle. What do you guys think, is it worth letting him join the team even thought he will have to sit out as year due to NCAA transfer rules? (by the time he will be able to play he will be a junior)

On top of Trey Fairchild committing this past weekend, another player who the Zips did offer Roy Roundtree said thanks, but no thanks to our offer and committed to Big 10 member Purdue. He looks like an impact player for the future for Purdue. has both Size, Strength and Speed. (6'0, 185 19 times, 4.4 40 yard dash)

You should probably say the legs of Hakes now... my friend who works with the team told me Hakes had a faster 40 time this spring. I was pretty shocked! you have to take into consideration that jackson was coming off an off season injury to hit foot that required him to wear the protective boot for over a month. Im sure that when he gets his legs back under him an back to his old form, he will be back to running the 4.5's again. Jackson ran a 4.8 in the Spring of '06 coming off a year of redshirt workouts and no injuries. Jackson is quick and athletic, but he doesn't have blazing straight line speed. You have to take high school 40 times with a grain of salt. Some are legit, especially for more highly touted prospects, but for a guy like Jackson who wasn't that heavily recruited many times that "4.4" or "4.5" is in reality a 4.7 or 4.8. 40 times are overrated in my opinion anyways though. I played with guys who ran 4.8's that played with more "game speed" than workout freaks running 4.3's. i agree 100%. look at dan dario of Hoban, didnt run a 4.4 or anything but was one hell of a football player. Just sad we let him slip away because in the future, he will be a great player.

Here is the highlight film of a kid out of Brunswick HS. He is 6'2 225 LBS and runs a consistant 4.6-4.7 in the 40 yard dash. I really liked what i seen of him as a FB and with our FB's coming close to graduating he could be a good fit for our type of offense. Check him out an give your imput.http://scoutingohio.com/Garrett_Mack_Brunswick.htm

Does anyone have any results for some of the Future Zips in this past weekends OSHAA Track and Field CHMPS. * The kid (M) from Akron Firestone who has signed to join the track an field team next year finished 2nd in the state in the long jump with a jump of over 22 ft.* The female from Crestwood who has also signed with the Zips track and field program won the state (D1) 3200 meter race.* I heard that a few future zips football players were doing pretty well during track season, but I cant rememebr their names off the top of my head. If anyone has any info about future Zips, post it so we all can see.thanks.

Im watching this cavs game and there is another "shot clock malfunction". What is it with the shot clock at the Q, they just cant get that thing fixed....... or maybe it is the shot clock operator.

I watched this kids highlight film on rivals. He is a very solid player and would make a great addition to any team that got him. I seen this story on Yahoo about Zach like 2 weeks ago and it did mention Akron as a school that he would like to look into if the release was granted. I dont know that his legs are as good as Jacksons or Hakes, but his arm is what has impressed colleges. I think we will have to wait until after this season to see how our "stable" of QB's do and then make a choice on if we want to add another one or not because remember we did offer Dominik Britt of Trotwood and ive seen on both rivals and scout that he is high on Akron..... Britt has the Legs of Jackson and the arm of Frazer.

"LOI" means letter of intent. I dont think that Rydell was that high on Akron, I believe that Akron was one of his last choices out of Buchtel. He would make a solid addition out of Niagra, because the kid can handle the ball, pass, and score when needed. Id personally like to see him i n a Zips uniform in the future if this rumor has any truth to it.

My fault, yeah it is. I was watching both of their updated highlight films on rivals and got them mixed up. sorry people.

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/video...idtype=prospectcan he be used as a RB....nah keep him at DB

Our recent recruit, Vince Hill is both very good on the field and in the classroom. I recently read an article about him in one of the college football magazines when it was talking about the best players an who they signed with. He was ranked in the top 15 in all of the east coast, and it says on top of that, he is a pretty good kid in the classroom also. Hopefully things will work out for both him and the Zips

O-Linemen Working Out: Payton was also pleased in what he saw from young offensive linemen Andy Alleman, although he did say it's tough to tell a whole lot before the linemen are able to get out on the field in shoulder pads and put in some full-contact sessions. "He's done a good job early on," Payton said of Alleman. Those guys are swimming in there because we're giving them a lot of offense to learn and then they're getting a lot of defensive fronts. He's handled it well. He's taken reps (with the 1st team) at the left guard position and he's done a good job of picking up everything we've given him."Looks like andy is doing pretty good for himself down in new orleans.

A new highlight featuring a future ZIP...
timmyboy replied to timmyboy's topic in Akron Zips Football
I just got an email back from Gary Pride telling me a little bit about Derick. He is a Senior and he has not even committed to a school, even though Gary says he did mention somthing about liking and maybe going to Bowling Green. I told Gary to work on getting him here with the Zips, he could be our final Scholly since i do believe we still have one remaining for this recruiting class. And even if not he can come to akron and earn a scholly next season. I told Gary that he could be the creater of the "Colerain Connection" and he said he is already talking to his cousin who is a standout CB at Colerain and one of the best in the state about becoming a future Zip. I watched his cousins highlight film and he would be a GREAT addition to our Defense. I would compare him to a Bryan Williams but a little bit bigger (6' 200 LBS) and the same speed.OH and a little sidenote..... anyone who wants to see a GREAT HS football game on SEPT 2nd. Colerain will be playing Hoover (AL) from MTV's Two-a-days in the 2nd annual Kirk Herbstreit OHIO VS U.S.A Classic at cincy university's stadium. The MTV crew will be there filming for the 3rd season of Two-a-days, and ESPN will also be there to televise the game. Should be a great game and alot of fun so if your free that weekend, go check it out. -
A new highlight featuring a future ZIP...

I wrote Gary to find out who #2 was and i am waiting for his reply. I also asked if he had already committed somewhere or if he is a underclassmen. -
That looks like the old days when JT was here. But i dont remember them having both the adidas and russell logo on it. thats weird

This is the highlight film for Cinncinatti Colerain QB Doug Reynolds. But in alot of these clips future ZIP Gary Pride (#9 in the video) is on the receiving end of the throws. You can get a pretty good feel for his speed and elusiveness in this Film. Im very excited to have him here at Akron and cant wait to see him making an impact next year.http://scoutingohio.com/Doug_Reynolds_Cinc...ti_Colerain.htm

I agree with almost everything that you said. Yost does use ever bit of talent that he has and he does do a pretty good job considering most of the best athletes go to buchtel, garfield or one of the other area schools. I did have the pleasure of playing for Yost while in HS. Not only is he a very good coach, but he is a great person outside of football. I was able to play against some of the best athletes to come out of akron ( and Ohio for that matter) and i feel that Keppler has the same attitude and is just as good of an athlete as most of them. I think alot of people look at the city series as a joke, and it is pretty much warranted because they havent had the strong teams that they have in the past..... but there are still some elite athletes in the city Series, and i feel keppler is one of them. We will be able to see this coming season, watch for Keppler to have a Big year.and watch for his name to come up after this summers football camps, because i know he is scheduled to go to a few of them.
-
Here is a little update on Keppler. Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan were both at the school talking to coach yost and they have extended offers to Keppler. They have not said which position they offered him at so it is up in the air. Western Michigan is also a school showing alot of interest, but he is still waiting on an offer from them.

that is a great lost to the nation. he had alot of good information.
-
The guy grabbed his head an said wow i would have never guessed. then went on to state that you dont hear about Akron having great players..... what an @$$ i am glad he lost ha ha

Just sitting here at home flipping through the channels and i came across the show who wants to be a millionaire (the sports edition). One of the questions on it was what college did all pro DE Jason Taylor attend ( it was for 1,000$) and the choices were in order as follows....A.) Auburn B.) Ohio State C.) Akron D.) Pitt Why did this dumb guy say well i know Jason is from Pennsylvania, and i know he didnt go to Auburn or Ohio State, and I never heard of Akron having any good players to go pro's so it has to be (D) Pitt. This guy had me wanting to jump thru the Television an grab him by his neck. If you know enough to know JT is from Pennsylvania, then you should know enough about him to know he went to AKRON..... some people are just dumber then $#it.

I liked the "We Got Wood" sign best.#2: "You Got Played By Quade" but the best sign i seen all year would have to be the K S U C K S ha ha that was priceless. man them Cant fans were pretty upset over that sign..... or could it be that they lost both games during the regular season to the Zips? As for the stadium. I think they should have somthing inside that shows the names and pictures of all of the Zips players who have made it to the Professional level. With a picture fo them when they were at Akron and with their Professional team. They need to make it more fan friendly, unlike the rubber bowl.

Fun Column Features Jerome Lane, Jakubik & others
timmyboy replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
this is an interesting story. My brothers best friend is dating Joe's niece and he said that joe has told him a few diffrent times that this summer they are going to hang out an play basketball and he will give him some tips and pointers to improve his game. Of course he is young so he thinks he can take the "old" guy but he didnt lead the nation is scoring for nothing...he still has got game. -
The Sporting News mentioned J.D. Brookhart in its list of the top five coaches who are 45 and younger. The magazine also said Brookhart is the 17th-best non-BCS coach overall. He has done a great job since he arrived at Akron with recruiting and winning. Glad that he is here, hope we can keep him for a very long time.
