april 15th, make sure that everyone is there to support our Akron Zips, and to get a glance at some of the talent we were able to sign in this class.
-
even with the new stadium... i honestly dont think they should raise ticket prices anymore then they already have. They have to prove that they field a team capable of competing for the MAC year in and year out before they can justify raising the prices more then the 15$ they are now.

thsi guy is such a talent, he could play in the offensive or defensive backfield. Heck he may he able to move up to linebacker and play the same roll that mackey does.

List of pref walk ons for football
timmyboy replied to br30302004's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
After seeing capmbell kick 40 yard FG into the wind in the state tourney at Cant State's Dix stadium...I think he has more then enough talent to kick at the D 1 level. he is also a pretty good punter too. -
Devoe Torrence the big Running Back/Linebacker from near by Canton South HS has ended all speculation and decided to join his brother Devon Torrence at Ohio State... This would have been a great addition, but i kinda knew he was headed south to be with his brother.... oh well we lost one..now lets keep working to get these local high profile players ( such as Dan Mccarthy, T.Hill from Cardinal Mooney, and Johnny Adams of Akron Buchtel) interested in the Zips program.

The University of Akron is now the first D1 school to offer the big DL from Salisbury, CT.He measures in at 6-2, 271 LBS and runs a 4.86 40 yard dash.He also has some impressive stats in the weightroom also. He was officially observed doing 32 reps of 185 pounds and 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He was also timed at 4.86 in the 40-yard dash, 4.23 in the short shuttle and has a 27-inch vertical. This kid might be a good addition to our DL if he is able to add a few more pounds an keep his speed. As for his Junior year, his stats are as followed....83 tackles, 15 of which were for a loss, 4 sacks 3 fumble recoveries.

you forgot about our most constant Defensive player, LB John Mackey.I am with you on most of the other stuff...qb carlton jacksonrb Dennis Kennedy, alex allen........ but brian williams will get some time here i believe.fb Joe Tuzze, Joe McDanielwr Jabari,Harvey,Lindsay,Hill....... Heard that J Long is looking to transfer out of Akronte Kasper,Merceoline T: Sekinger,KemmeG: Ward,EstradaC: ScheppD-Line Jared G,Nate Robinson,Victor Rajeck......LBS Grant,Stokes,Mackey, Sewell, but Williams will be a great help at this Pos.Secondary Tate,Corner,Andre Jones,Rodney,.....Brians Williams could also help at this position, as well as the JC transfer we got in this signing class.look for players Gary Pride, Brian Williams, Vince Hill, Casey Estrada, Almondo Sewell, Stewart Crowles from this years signing class to make an impact right away...... toooo much talent in this class to let them just sit.I look for this team to be more athletic then last years, and the Defense to be more solid then last years. The offensive line will need to make BIG stides quick in time to gel by the start of the season. Carlton Jackson brings alot more athletism to the team then getsy did, so look for us to open the offense up more an allow more plays for the QB to run with... im thinking we could go this season with only 2 losses, OSU and W Mich.

Who does everyone think will be starting for the Zips this coming fall? and also. we have a new addition to the zips football staff. The article is below.University of Akron head football coach J.D. Brookhart announced the hiring of former NFL defensive back Emmanuel McDaniel as the cornerbacks coach, replacing Aaron Alford who accepted a similar post at the University of Utah. After an eight-year NFL career (1996-2003), McDaniel retired from professional football, stepping away from the sport for a couple of years to be with his newborn son. Last season he worked as a volunteer in the Akron football office. “We have a lot of faith in Emmanuel,” Brookhart said. “His experience in the NFL as a defensive back will certainly be beneficial. Also, he played for (Akron defensive coordinator) Jim Fleming at East Carolina, so I know they will work well together.” A native of Griffin, Ga., McDaniel played for four teams over his NFL career, including the Carolina Panthers (1996 and 2002), the Indianapolis Colts (1997), New York Giants (1999-2001) and the Arizona Cardinals (2003). He ended his career with 161 tackles, 32 passes defended and eight interceptions. In addition to being a highly-touted top nickel back in the league over his career, McDaniel additionally served on his teams’ punt, punt return and kickoff coverage units. His best season in the NFL came in 2000 when he picked off six passes to help the Giants post a 12-4 regular-season record and rank as one of the top five defenses in the league. Also during the 2002 season, McDaniel was named his team’s Defensive Player of the Game as the Giants defeated the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game. He followed that by earning a starting nod as the nickel back in Super Bowl XXXV versus the Baltimore Ravens. McDaniel was a part of two other successful teams during his career. In his first year in the league, the Panthers were 1996 NFC West champions and reached the NFC Championship game. In his lone season with the Dolphins (1998), Miami entered the playoffs as a wild card before falling in the second round to eventual Super Bowl champion Denver. McDaniel was a four-year letterman (1992-95) at East Carolina where he finished his career with 112 tackles and 13 interceptions. He led the Pirates in interceptions three times and his 13 career picks rank sixth all-time in ECU history. As a senior, McDaniel earned first team All-South Independent honors, under the direction of then Pirate defensive backs coach and current Akron defensive coordinator Jim Fleming. McDaniel received a B.A. in criminal justice in 1995. He is married Lynn Viehmeyer of Poland, Ohio, and the couple has one son, Jaylen (3). Akron will begin its annual spring football drills on Mar. 29 with the Blue and Gold Game – presented by Sky Bank – is set for Sunday, April 15, at 4 pm.

JT the Brick rips on Miami Redhawks, MAC
timmyboy replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
someone needs to tell this guy to sit on a stick an spin...... does he not know that the best team in the MAC wasent even invited to the ncaa or nit tourney? -
I agree Steward and Sweich are keys to Akron becoming a perennial MAC power. This has the potential to be the Zips' best ever recruiting class.Don't forget about Brett McKnight (Chris' brother), he turned into a scoring machine this year for Lancaster High School.Life as a die-hard Zips fan living in Columbus can be incredibly aggravating since so many people here don't care about anybody isn't in the Big Ten or Top 25 in any sport. However, I have been very fortunate lately to see some 'future basketball Zips' while they were still playing in high school. In recent years I have seen Chris McKnight and Nate Linhart while in HS and was quite impressed, but these next two central Ohio Zip recruits (Steward and B. McKnight) are two of the most impressive players I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Believe me, despite how dark things have been lately, due to events beyond the team's control, the future is bright for the Zips on the hardwood. yeah i have seen on numerous websites that b mcknight is better then his brother chris mcknight.

Letter To Coach Dambrot, Coaches & Team.
timmyboy replied to Zip Watcher's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
perfectly put! we can only grow from here, and we will! -
You got to take it..... what a better way to start the season then with a chance to knock off one of the teams that the NIT committee thought was so much better then us, its a chance to whip their @$$es and show them they made a mistake by not including us in the tourney.
-
I know it is a lower division but walsh university in N.Canton has a pretty good football team (a couple of former akron players who got shafted by akron now play here) an they are playin some of the toughest teams in their division. you can check them out if your serious.

the last time we played this team was at the bowl and we lost 20-0.... and that was when we were more established and knew what we had in what position. Now we have to find out who our starting QB will be (i hope it is carlton jackson), our starting offensive line (sekinger, ward, schepp, hueber, kemme sounds good to me) Starting DL ( only robinson and cechetti (SP) are the ones i can say are starting) we are pretty established at LB and DB so im glad about that.

I went to all the zips mac tourney games in cleveland, and it really isnt as far as it seems, of the 3 days i went up... the longest it took us was 56 minutes and that was only because of a wreck, and a speed trap the state police set up that had people slowing down, but on my way to the championship game, it only took me 40 minutes to get there.... not to bad, especially for the expirence of seeing our zips play in an NFL stadium! Lets all show up in large numbers to support them.

wow, what a joke....... can the university and the MAC show us fans a little bit more respect. 4 home games?
