  1. not that I know of. I did talk to romeo and tell him that since he has one year left to play college sports, he should try his hand on the gridiron. He laughed and said "nah thats ok" Im thinkin he is going to have a shot at playing in the league.... so why risk it on the field.
  2. SOOOO.... does this mean the NCAA will investigate and put them on probation, like they have teams in the past. I do remember someone form toledo coming onto our board sayin how this RB from toledo (Harvey "Scooter" McDougle Jr) was such a great football player, and he was the best RB to come from Toledo since the Guy who is now playing for the minnesota vikings. Isnt it great..... Big Mighty Toledo will be thin at RB (since morgan williams wont qualify this year, or maybe ever).... while Akron Is LOADED!
  3. I hope goddard works on his defense and shot selection this summer. He is a fire shooter from behind the arc, but i think he puts it up to quick and doesnt work to get his shots. He gets a pass and fires it right up. If he were to work on his Defense and have better shot selection next year, dare i say he could be a very good bench player for us.
  4. I do believe Adams will be a 4 year letterman for the griffins. I thought that is what he said on his video on rivals.com. I might be wrong, but i could have swore i seen him and williams on the field in the state playoffs. anyways you are correct about them both being great athletes, i also hope JD works his magic an keeps him in his hometown.
  5. cool.thanks alot. I will be at the game tomorrow. my friend jessica D plays for them.
  6. The Akron Softball team done today. i was planning on going to the games, but stuff came up and i wasent able to. How was the attendance for the games?
  7. if im not mistaken, when wood was in hs at central hower, he made the all state team (not sure if it was 1st or 2nd) and sweich is from PA and they havent released their all state players yet. My thought is that he will be on the all state team, after having a very dominate senior year.
  8. I believe he is. Hopefully he's still enrolled and taking classes. Definitely a talented player who's in desperate need of a time out. maybe he hung out with jabari an learned the whole team concept this off season. arthur is the perfect image of what a team player is. He could have very easily said "no i wont move to WR" back when he was at QB an the staff came up with the thought of moving him... but he didnt, he took the move willingly to help the team, and look where it has gotten him, he is in IMO the most underrated player on the Akron team, if not in the MAC.... cant wait to see how well he does this season. But i hope that it is nothing very serious for Harvey ( such as family health issues or anything like that). I hope that he comes back soon and is determined to get us back to that MAC title game!
  9. True, but I'm hoping Williams takes over at RB. We need a more explosive option than Kennedy and Williams is the man! thats true, he is such an athlete that you run into the problem of where to play him. could he be the first 2 way player at akron in a long time ( if not ever) ha ha jk.
  10. Carlton Jackson, the redshirt freshman who headed into the first day of spring practices Thursday as the University of Akron's No. 1 quarterback, didn't even take one snap. He was kept out of practice by coach J.D. Brookhart.``We held him out, but he'll be back out and ready to take repetitions (today),'' he said.Jackson, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound Pompano Beach, Fla., native who played in just one game last season, was seen jogging around the practice field while backups Chris Jacquemain and Sean Hakes, No. 2 and 3 on the depth chart, respectively, took all the snaps.Brookhart was tight-lipped, but it's possible Jackson might have been disciplined for some minor infraction and this was Brookhart's way of slapping Jackson on the wrist. And it wasn't as if Brookhart was putting in some kind of sophisticated spread offense, either. The first day of spring practices was all about enthusiasm and energy. The players were in jerseys, shorts and helmets. The first day with pads will be Saturday. But when Jackson is on the field, his athletic ability is impressive. The last two quarterbacks for UA (Luke Getsy and his predecessor, Browns quarterback Charlie Frye) were outstanding passers but weren't known for their scrambling abilities.Jackson, a left-hander, has a fairly strong arm but his ability to produce big plays running and scrambling out of the pocket brings a dimension to UA's offense that it hasn't seen since Nick Sparks was the starter in the 2001 season opener against Ohio University. That lasted just two quarters because he injured his toe just before halftime. Frye took over in the third quarter and never relinquished the starting job.``You see the athleticism of quarterbacks beating you, so now it's exciting to have that on your side of the ball,'' Brookhart said about Jackson. ``Plays aren't going to go how they're supposed to a lot of times and we have a guy that can make some plays and be athletic enough to do that. All of our guys can do that.''Jacquemain battled Jackson during last fall for the No. 2 position and it looks as though that battle will continue this spring and into the preseason in early August.``So many things can change by August,'' Brookhart said. ``For instance, the commitment level from the kid. They just need experience, all of them. Especially in live situations.``Jacquemain has been very focused and he's had a good spring,'' Brookhart said. ``Hakes is kind of a wild card. He can really impress you at times and then he can look bad at times. But he's a freshman and he'll develop some inconsistencies.''-- HARVEY ABSENT FROM PRACTICE -- Sophomore wide receiver/kick returner David Harvey is not with the team, for now. Harvey was named to the 2006 Scripps/Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-American team as a kick returner and The Sporting News selected him for its first-team Freshman All-America squad as a kick returner and an honorable mention wide receiver.Harvey caught 43 passes for 914 yards and averaged 21.3 yards per catch and set a UA freshman record with 10 touchdown receptions.``David is on leave from the team taking care of some personal matters,'' Brookhart said. ``There's no set timetable when he'll be back.''-- HARD LINE -- The Zips' offensive line lost all but one starter (6-6, 300-pound left tackle Chris Kemme) from last year's team, but Brookhart is relying on right guard Mike Schepp (6-4, 315) to emerge as another veteran leader.``To me, we've got two starters back,'' Brookhart said. ``You can say Mike was a starter, he was just a backup at every position. He was that valuable. We have a little different (offensive line) this year. It's a taller, more athletic crew. We don't have all these guys who can bench 400 pounds.''I dont believe that its fair for the beacon to assume that CJ was held out because it was a form of discipline, have they ever thought that maybe it was due to an injury that he had gotten in the offseason..... Im thinking that is more fo the case! CJ knows what he has to keep his head on straight an stay out of trouble, and i think he has matured alot over the last year. He will be ready to lead this team!
  11. And there is a player who signed with akron from JC (brian williams) who is not on the updated roster? anyone know what is going on with that? is he even here at akron yet or will he have to wait until the summer session to join the team. casey estrada is on the list as well as graham (SP) from the JC, but no williams.
  12. Oh,ok. another player who can step up and help right away.
  13. great addition for the Zips. he could be one of them players who step right in and make an impact for the loss of romeo. Its almost scary how much talent and more athletic we will be with the addition of sweich, steward, mcknight, and now this roberts kid. i dont think us losing romeo and dru will have as much of a negative affect on us as it would have if we werent able to see the program grow and have all of these very talented recruits sign with us.
  14. This was the one thing I expected to see a whole lot of last year (based on observations in the MAC championship and Motor City Bowl) and I was very disappointed that I didn't (at least not much). IMO Getsy's one absolute strength is running the no-huddle. Well at least we might see it this year. Better late than never? according to the article, they are going to be doing it alot. I will talk to a few of the QB's in the next couple of days and see if that is true, hope so because it makes the pace of the game faster and alot more fun to watch.
  15. I dont think they had shoulder pads on,the last i knew... the ncaa says they are required to have the first 2 days of spring ball in just helmets and can wear full gear on the 3rd day(with no contact) an then on the 4th day it is full go.....nice article on gozips.com about the practice. Looks like our defense will be our strong point. and our OL will be alot more athletic then it was a year ago. I Love that they are going to a no huddle, like BG does, because it throws off the defense and doesnt allow them to get the proper defensive players into the game. It helps alot that whoever our QB this year is is going to me more mobile and can move around in the pocket or tuck it an run if need be.
  16. no offense, but the only reason the buckeyes are still getting the press is because they are still in the tourney. Heck we got alot of press and publishing for us, even when we didnt make a tourney.....but things will be different next year, we will be playin in the ncaa tourney, mark my words......we will come back stronger and more aggressive then ever. Plus the additions of sweich and steward are going to help us out alot more then people realise.
  17. this may sound dumb, but who is this guy? does anyone have any film on him?
  18. Just post the link... it is ok to advertise free stuff. www.myxertones.com
  19. i know of a website where you can get ringtones for free, they might even have the zips fight son. i dont wanna advertise it on here, but if you would like to know it, private message me
  20. i actually talked to alex allen and he said that he is only at about 85% right now, so he is sitting out the spring ball, but he will be back for summer ball at 100%. it will be exciting to see our Rb this year because we have a whole stable of them an their all pretty decent.kennedyreedBrian Williams ( he may play cb tho)andre walkerand a few more i cant think of off the top of my head
  21. first day of practice today, wonder how it went..... hopefully when they gets the shells(pads) on we can keep them all healthy, dont wanna lose any key players before the summer camp and season starts.
  22. alot of the wal marts sell the fear the roo and Akron stuff. The new super wal mart that they built on 76 in tallmadge is very nice and have a very nice selection of shirts, hoody's,sweat pants that have fear the roo on it.
  23. Im sure williams would like nothin better then to have a fellow griffin opposite him on the field. If im not mistaken, when they did play together at buchtel for the year or 2, buchtel had the toughest pass defense in the whole area. I do remember a team from youngstown (liberty) having 2 receivers who were all state that year, and they were completely shut down by buchtel in the state playoff game. williams and adams were frustating them all game.... would LOVE to see them do the same thing for the zips. lets help get him here williams!
  24. He is a good kid, and i think the fact that he could be playing opposite former HS teammate and good friend Brian Williams makes him even more interested.
  25. Is there anything special that people get for buying season tickets? I know last year they gave out the fear the roo blankets (which i have yet to receive). You would think they would because for someone to buy season tickets would cost more then if they were to just buy the tickets (GA) at the gate.Season Tickets:Reserved $ 75 Faculty/Staff Reserved$ 60General Admission $ 65 SINGLE GAME TICKETS:Reserved $ 15 Faculty/Staff Reserved $ 12 General Admission $ 12 ( 12 X 5 =60)
