  1. they also play them in softball regularly. i would love to see them agree to play us in basketball so we could end this discussion, and prove that it would be alot closer then people think.
  2. doesnt toledo have their own board? JW why your on this one, that is why i said this AKRON ZIPS board
  3. not sure what you mean by have STUDENTS PLAY. could you explain to me what you mean plz.
  4. dont forget that we still have 3 scholarships to give, and captain has already said the one is a BIG canadian for the DL. hopefully we find out very soon who the last 3 remaining are. and also C. stewart from hargrove military will be with the team come summer. I have personally never seen him play but i have heard he is a good one, and he came from the same school as almondo sewell, so we shall see. No freshman I've seen that we've signed or will potentially sign is the type that can come in year one and have an impact. Some people don't realize the gap in strength and speed from the hs/juco level to 1-A, and how long it takes most players to adjust themselves to that. If we're having to play true freshman up front on defense that's about the same as playing walk-on players who have at least been here for a while. To me this is a result of poor, poor defensive line recruiting the past few years, giving scholarships to guys who had little chance of ever seeing the field due to academics and bad character as opposed to bringing guys that might not be three stars but would be dependable and be ready to take the field in their second or third year. We've had no less than six defensive lineman sign and never appear on the roster in the last three years. That's devastating. i heard he is as big if not bigger then the jones guy from PA who alot of people wanted us to sign. Heck, if their that low at DL maybe I should think about walking on ha ha 6' 290 lbs witha 4.9-5.1 40 yard dash and 370 pound max bench press ( but i havent lifted lately so i could prob only get 320)
  5. I couldnt have said it better..... instead of using up so much energy writing back an forth on this board about a topic that is just stupid to argue about, use that energy to cheer on the softball or baseball teams!

  7. if goddard had a better shot selection...other then getting the ball and just firing away, he would get a heck of alot more playing time. there are a few small things he needs to work on and he would be a very good player. Work more to create his shot, and not just get the ball and launch it from anywhere on the court. then he needs to work on his defense. if he were to do these things this summer... i can guarentee he would have alot more playing time then he had this year.
  8. hey 74 the guy they signed this year bryan williams likes to run inside an earn his yards the hard way. His game film from the military school is pretty impressive. he likes to go up the middle until he gets past the offensive line, then he usually gave a quick move to the outside...... an was gone with his 4.38 speed. If he is given the chance, he will show everyone. brinson from mckinley also liked to run between the tackles in hs, not sure about now.
  9. haha sounds like it was funny. the softball has a double header on friday against toledo ( if it isnt rained out) try to make it out there so u can heckle the toledo rockets ha ha.
  10. the way JD talked, schepp is the right guard, and he hasent said he is rotating at center. holley is a capable center and after being behind wills the last 2 years im sure he has grown and gotten a few pointers from him. hopefully this OL can gel quickly.
  11. williams is such a gifted athlete, i think he can help right away. i hope he isnt red shirted, an can play this year. I also cant wait to see pride play, i talked to him a few weeks an told him bout the the spring game and he said he was going to make it up for it.
  12. So, who are you betting on to be the starter?Bet you click here if you want more information Funny play on words. Parmele rushed for over 1,200 yards last year and will be our starting running back again this fall. There is another article on ESPN, different than the one you linked to, that talks to the guy in Vegas that tipped off the gaming commission and the NCAA. He says that Toledo and another MAC school had unusual betting patterns in their games in 2004. Then all of a sudden the other MAC school, which he declined to name, stopped having the unusual betting patterns but Toledo's continued through 2005. He and his associates watched all the game film on UT's games and couldn't find where any player, coach, or referee did anything wrong to fix games. But because of the unusual betting patterns (Vegas was losing large money on these games) they contacted the NCAA and gaming commission anyway in October of 2005. In November of 2005 the FBI wire-tapped "Gary's" phone so I have a feeling that the NCAA or gaming commission then contacted the FBI after receiving the information on unusual betting patterns. I knew Toledo didnt have a 1200 yard rusher last year so i double check and i was correct. Parmele had 1131 yards last year (according to the MAC website and 1,170 according to toledo's), and an average of 94.2 YPGGarrett Wolff was the only MAC player to top 1200 yards last year ( 1,928 rushing yards and 148.3 YPG)Akron RB Dennis Kennedy was the 5th best RB in the league last season with 914 rushing yards (999 according to akrons site) and an average of 83.1 YPG.......... and this is playing over 1/2 of the year injured!Next time you are going to throw stats up on the board rocket, make sure they are accurate Oh my God are you an anal bast***. It was just over 1,100....not 1,200. That's a really big difference. For the way Toledo's offense played last year 800 yards would be good. Parmele gained most of his yards in the last 5 games of the season when Toledo finally decided to stop throwing the minus one yard pass to the tight end on every play and decided to run the ball.Parmele is going to be a serious force this year, and I know that scouts are looking at him for a NFL career after the 2007 season is over.I'm so glad you're Kennedy dude was 5th in the MAC in rushing. I know he had a very good game against UT, rushing for 119 yards and 5.0 ypc average so I know that he is a very good running back.Interestingly enough, Akron as a team had a 3.1 ypc average against Toledo in that game and Toledo had a 3.5 ypc average. Kennedy had 119 yards and a 5.0 ypc average and Parmele had 145 yards and a 5.4 ypc average. QB sacks hurt both team's overall total rushing stats. Toledo did have rushing touchdowns by 4 different players in that game though, while Akron had just by 1.Jalen Parmele averaged 5.5 ypc for the season last year, and DaJuane Collins averaged 5.6 ypc for the season as a redshirt freshman. Richard Davis, another running back for us, had 21 receptions (3rd on the team in receptions) and added 282 yards rushing for us. Those three guys alone make us pretty deep at running back. Combining the three of them comes to 42 receptions, 1,674 yards (4.9 ypc average) and 14 rushing touchdowns. In contrast, Akron's entire team (taking out QB sacks) rushed for just under 1,200 yards (3.7 ypc average) and 13 touchdowns and 46 receptions. I hate to say it, but take out Dennis Kennedy and you have no one with any valuable DI-A experience and that is what depth is about! why am i an anal bas****? becaus ei pointed out that you were wrong about stats that you posted? next time do some research before you post on this AKRON ZIPS board.
  13. Thanks mike, there are a few positions that will change once all the players get to join the team, such as almondo sewell ( to good not to see the field) and bryan williams... not sure where he will play but he also is too good fo a talent to sit on the sidelines.

  15. its 10:02 on tuesday morning.....and STILL no updated roster or depth chart. Dont say somthing will be done on a certain day, and not do it!
  16. not really. the akron base runner was on first and stole 2nd and she hit the bag and the umpire had a bad angel because of the position of the ball state player, so he called her out. There were a few other calls also, but that is the one that stuck out in my head because it was so obvious she was safe.
  17. yeah they did go undefeated this year, before losing to a tough ST V team. had it not been for the sloopy play and the turnovers they could and would have eaisly beat them. but thats basketball, some days you are on and some days you are off.....thats just the way it goes.
  18. Just curious if anyone had any information on how todays (sunday) practice went? or did JD give them today off? I thought one of the players said that he might give them today off depending on how the first few days went, but im not sure if he did or not. any info on it?
  19. did anyone attend the junior day today for the Akron Football team? And if so were there any standouts that it looks like we would offer, an would help us?
  20. dont get our hopes up lol..... but it was a very nice april fools joke ha ha.
  21. Copley guard Andrew Moss (6'2) has announced that he will be a preferred walk-on for the Zips.I seen Copley play on the television once this year, and from what i seen of this kid, he was pretty good. If he is able to improve on his ball handeling skills i could see him getting some decent playing time next year. Just more added depth for our run next year.
  22. well i will be there tomorrow to support them..maybe some of the ak rowdies could show up an show em some support.
  23. so is it just me or is it akron against the officials in ever dang sport? anyone else feel that too?
  24. Just got back from the akron softball game and the officiating ended up screwing akron again. The base runner from akron was coming home from 3rd an ball state made ther throw. IMO the base runner was safe, and the umpire even signaled safe, the akron girl gets up from the ground an the ball state player tags her an he then calls her out. That was the game changing point of the game. it would have given akron another run, but instead it gave them their 3rd out. The next horrible officiating call came when the Ball State base runner was coming from 2nd base to third, the akron defender threw the ball to 3rd an tagged the girl before she hit the bag, and the official called her safe. I was sitting behind the guy video taping the game for ball state, and he turned around an said wow, she got away with that one. and then after the game...he rewinded the video on his camcorder, and showed the replay of the official making the safe signal on the play at home, the official stated that he didnt signal safe at any period of time, but the video CLEARLY showed his making the safe call..... ONCE AGAIN, IT IS AKRON AGAINST THE OFFICIATING!!!!!! I hope that the officiating for the football season isnt as bad as it has been for the sports this year!
  25. Things must have changed when Harvey hadent showed up. Cuz he (Long) said he was looking into transfering, he was just looking for the right place to go to. anyways, he is a very good football player and im glad we still have him.
