  1. guys give him a break... he is probably one of them students who wanted badly to come to Akron out of HS, but wasent accepted lol. so his last option was YSU ha ha
  2. huggins did do alot to turn this akron program around. and each school that he has gone to he has taken to a new level. it is a shame that he left kansas state the way he did, when they were the only ones willing to take a chance on him after his arrests, but thats life. kansas will get another great coach who will pick up where huggins left off, and huggins will go to WVU and help to get that program to another level of competition and into the NCAA's. Maybe since pitt is not willing to play us at home, huggins would like to make a return to his old stomping grounds?
  3. I recently communicated with david via email. and he had said he was doing pretty good now, but didnt say anything bout football, so i am not sure if anyone knows where he stands. Hopefully he will realise that he misses football and his desire to play has return an he comes back more determined then ever.
  4. Dru Joyce has no chance to play in the NBA. Earl Boykins similarities to Dru end with the fact that they are both short. ha ha justa thought
  5. Does anyone think he has a chance to play in the league? He has NBA range and he is pretty good defensively, and he knows how to get his teammates the ball (holds the all time assist record in akron history) and he doesnt turn the ball over much (had one of the best assist to turn over ratios in the league the past few years). I know people will say he doesnt because of his height..... But look at the Earl Boykins, and Nate Robinsons of the NBA. I know I will catch some heck from people, but im just curious as to what others think.
  6. well JD talks each year about things before the game. and they have had them types of promotions for the last 2 years such as raffles an stuff. i am not saying they will be for sure, but i would think they would do it. They gave away free cups, posters an stuff last year also.
  7. Day seven of Akron’s spring football practice had a scrimmage scheduled. Some injuries did not allow that to happen. However, the two-hour workout in the Athletics Field House did end with some situational team periods.First, the offense was backed up against its own one yard line and its goal was to get a first down, which is did on one of the two attempts. Then the team turned around with the offense having the ball on the 20 to work on red zone situations. Within that segment, the ball was placed on various hashes and yard lines and the drill came to an end after a nice touchdown run off left tackle by transfer back Andrew Johnson. While the drill ended with Johnson’s run, the defense had its share of success during Friday’s practice as well, including a 65-yard interception return for a score by Reggie Corner. Each practice shows evidence of the team implementing more into the Zips’ game plan. Not only are the offenses and defenses installing more looks and plays, but special teams adds more and more each practice as well. After talking with offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead yesterday, defensive coordinator Jim Fleming gives his take on spring drills to date: What are some positives through seven practices?“There is good chemistry and attitude with this team. We have had good leadership at each of the positional groups. The players are also working hard to meet the high expectation levels of performance we have put in place for them. I think we are a solid two-deep at safety and are close to being a solid two-deep across the whole secondary.” What are some points of emphasis for this spring for the defense?“Coming out of last year, we are focused on the defense doing more to win games. Our challenge is to score on defense, create more turnovers and be stingy. I have been pleased with the number of turnovers we have been able to force so far.” What does spring practice mean for this group?“We only have one proven starter along the defensive front (Jared Cecchetti) so the increased reps has been incredible. Also, while your upset a Kevin Grant gets injured, he is very knowledgeable and very experienced so you are pleased with the extra work an Al-Teric Balaam is getting. Also, we have the luxury of moving some players around to create different packages and put more speed on the field when needed. For instance, you could see a Mitchell Magloire on the defensive line, see a Chevin Pace play some linebacker or even see perhaps our best corner, Brandon Anderson, play some strong safety. The spring allows us to make these adjustments as we are not preparing for an opponent. Spring practice also is a time to continue improvement of fundamentals. We are striving for zero defects and no missed assignments.” Other than the “names”, who is having a good spring so far?“We are getting good leadership at each positional group on defense. I like what I have seen from Miguel Graham. Wayne Cobham has made real progress and Amin Kabir has shown some really good things.” Akron will take the next three days off before returning to practice next Tuesday. The Zips will hold its annual spring game on April 15 (Sunday) at 4 pm in the Athletics Field House. Prior to the game, the Zip baseball team will host Central Michigan at 1 pm. All the events of the day – presented by Sky Bank – will be released as details are solidified.WHAT HAPPENED TO GRANT?
  8. rome hold the record for blocked shots..... that is a defensive stat, that has to be worth somthing. and also look at the big games earlier on in the year and how he played. I think he did a pretty good job against nevada. he also had a great game against Bg at home.
  9. The game is on sunday april 15th at 4:00 at the field house..... what other info do you want?
  10. he has to sit out this year due to ncaa transfer rules. but next year he will definatly be in the mix.
  11. If former Miami SkumHawk Ira Newble (averaging 8 pts and 6 rebounds as a senior at miami) can get onto an NBA roster, there is no reason in the world Romeo shouldnt have a shot at being on an NBA roster.....PERIOD! Some say he doesnt have a good work ethic, but i heard there were a few pro scouts at the BG game at home, and he had a pretty good showing if i remember correctly. He should make an NBA roster, and at worst play in the NBADL.
  12. im tired of hearing people say that charlie cant do it..... give him an offensive line that can block worth a damn and he will prove to us all that he will be able to play QB in the NFL! Until we have an offensive line, it doesnt matter who is behind center, they will fail! Wait until he gets an offensive line an then lets start a damn thread, until then let the guy be the best that he can with what he has!
  13. He may be hating, but Rasor did compare CJ to Michael Vick and that truly is no comparison at this point! He can be compared to vick. Both are left handed....both are very good as scrambleing, both have the ability to create with their feet if a play breaks down, both throw tight passes and both (at times) throw some ducks. Yeah he may not have many game situation snaps under his belt, but if you seen video of him from HS and seen video of Vick from HS...Jackson is like the clone of vick.
  14. hey captian i wonder if any of the kids who committed to Kansas State will be able to get out of it since the coaching change. ,, i know in the past the NCAA have allowed a few of them to. it should be interesting to see.
  15. My fondest memory of that moment was the following day. I'm driving to work and Steve French is giving the game wrap up on WNIR and mentions Frye's finger popping out of the socket. Maggie (co-host) instantly quips, "I thought it was the K.e.n.t. quarterback that was having 'joint' problems?" ha ha ha ha thats hilarious
  16. charlie was tough as nails. I remember the game at Can't( his SR year) when he hit his hand on the helmet of a player, and it got popped out of place, and he poppped it back in an kept playing.
  17. we should have been ranked higher, but oh well its the past. look for us to be ranked in the top 25 at least once next year. we have a very good returning core, and some very good additions coming in.
  18. How tall was Charles Barkley? 6-5? 6-4? He sure wasn't 6-7. he was 6'6 252 lbs. thats according to his official bio
  19. How can you say we will be weaker then last year? We are more athletic in darn near every position that we lost someone in. Yeah we may have to establish a whole new offensive line, but schepp is very capable of being the leader of the group. jackson is more then able to take over where getsy left off. Our RB situation is looking very nice so far, not often could we say that we were so deep at a position that we had talent sitting. The only question that i think, will be our DL. But i expect Nate to do alot of big things and return to the old form, that he had at rutgers. Look for Cecchetti (SP) to do big things this year. PLUS.......dont forget we still have 3 scholarships to give, so we could be giving them to a stand out player who could be the difference.
  20. welcome to the board. hope to see your son playin for the zips..... akron is a much better school then the ones who have offered him, and we are really on the rise.
  21. This is a little bit more realistic. I say we end it 9-3 i agree with you on all this except that Miami Game, i think we go into oxford and beat the skum hawks of miami. End the season on a 6 game win streak...... sounds very good to me. It all comes down to how well the offensive line gels together an works as a team. If they come together quickly then i can see us winning the MAC again.
  22. I wish I could say different, but I honestly don't think Romeo has a chance of making it in the NBA. He'll get a tryout - probably with Cleveland - but he'll end up overseas making VERY good money. He has a few small things that he needs to work on, an then i think he could make a solid bench player in the league. Alot of people say that he needs to work on his Defense, but he is the all time leading shot blocker in akron history. Maybe it is his defense on the perimeter that people were talking about. I hope he does make it to the league, he has worked hard to improve his game and it showed from his freshman year to now.
  23. yeah kennedy does have it right now, but come the season i think he will have to do alot to keep it. You are from akron so you might remember williams from buchtel. Has great hands and great speed. The only problem with him is that you run into a situation of where to play him, because he is very good at both Rb and DB
  24. If we think this years RB situation is tough because we have so many talented RB, wait until next year when we add this guy to the mix, because if im not mistaken none of our RB this year will be seniors ( or at least none of them that have a chance of helping out alot)Next Year:KennedyAllenWilliamsReedJohnsonWalkerMorris (RFR from Columbus)Also expect alot out of Stephon Fuqua (JR) from Cleveland Glenville. This guy is a very good athlete with very very good speed, if he had played football for 4 years while at glenville (he only played 1) I think he ends up playing at a Major college, and not mid major. Im glad he ended up here though.
  25. I heard Bowling Green is going to have a down year this year. so if you switch that OSU and BG score, then it is alot closer to being possible. i also think we can beat WM.
