  1. There may be some truth to that similarity statement. We are definitely a working class school where most of us work and pay our own way through unlike riding the tails of mommy and daddy. It sounds like SMU is your Miami of Ohio. We call them the sweaters. We can't stand them, and many of us would be very disappointed if we did not beat them.
  2. You're joking right?
  3. Well said. I support our guys while they are here but when they bolt, they are nothing more than the enemy. Best example...Mike Thomas who will continue to raid us for talent.
  4. I'm actually all for the idea. The Rubber Bowl is a great atmosphere when it is full. The Marshall game was a real taste of big time football a year back. However, it can be the worst atmosphere even half full, plus the place is a dump. Canal Park is a great facility, and I love the idea of a football game in downtown Akron, and I believe we would increase ticket sales if we do so. Fans can gather at local bars and restaurants instead of being out in the middle of an airport. The place would be much easier to fill. They would probably have to rig up temporary additional seating though.
  5. I have an idea for that game. Lets put the band and students right behind their bench and give it back to them.
  6. GPA is 3.1 and ACT is 19. I don't think it's a grade issue.Actually, I see your point. The kid looks like a Marshall player.
  7. We don't have the resources to spread the wealth to every nonrevenue sport. Our ticket sales are pathetic. We have to cut corners somewhere and I don't want it to be in football or basketball. The sports that are going to carry us are football and men's and women's basketball. Success in those sports will result in more revenue, which will then help us fund other sports. Nobody really cares if we have a good golf team.
  8. Uggh, I freaking hate Miami. Amen to that. We better clock them this season.
  9. Yes, Givens made his decision. Unfortunately, he chose Miami. We lost a good one there, but we seem to be building up our receiving corps pretty well.
  10. Perfect, the first ingrediant to a brewing upset
  11. Yes Yes Yes!! Finally!
  12. Eugene Jarvis
  13. http://www.kentstatesports.com/index.php?s...hange_well_id=2Akron/Can't State at 4:00? Weird
  14. The course was definitely tough and that made for some interesting breaks. The pressure at the end had to be incredible though as some guys did not even make the right club selections. All I'm saying is Mickelson probably could have played the final hole more conservatively and at the very least forced a playoff. But then again, with the way he was driving, who knows if he would have survived that. I think a lot of people would have liked Mickelson to win.
  15. Did anyone see Phil's perormance on the 18th hole of the US open? I've seen many choke jobs but this one took the cake. Can someone please tell me why you don't use the 4 wood or even a driver when you can't even hit a fairway all day?
  16. True, but I guess it makes more sense for Akron based on location and the faact that our home stadium is crumbling anyway.
  17. These Rocket fans are coming to see the Akron/Penn State game to support a fellow MAC? That's pretty cool.
  18. Toledo and Ohio State have agreed to a 1-1 series in football with the rockets to play the Buckeys in Brown's stadium in 2010 and then play in the shoe in 2011. This is really unheard of from OSU, and on another note their basketball team is playing Cleveland State in the Wolstein Center. It's great to see a school like OSU willing to venture out of the shoe once in a while, and it certainly earns my respect. On another note, where the hell is Akron in all this? Why are Bowling Green and Toledo both coming to our backyard to play a home game, enabling them to come and steal our recruits? If we're not building the stadium, let's take any chance we can get to get out of the Rubber Bowl. All these schools in the MAC are adding revenue and gaining exposure with these kid of games, and we need to follow.
  19. I realize it costs a lot of money to do what we want. But how long have we been raising funds for the stadium? Well longer than I have been around the university. And can someone tell me where Can't found the cash to fork over to JC? We like to poke fun at their small time ways, but they really showed us out on this one. You can't tell me they are that much richer than us.
  20. I agree with Rasor. It seemed that we experienced a period where things were looking up around the time when the fieldhouse construction was complete. Brookhart was hired and things began improving. Now it seems that the university is doing nothing to mantain the momentum while our MAC rivals are catching up in facilities and upping their coaches salaries. They can't afford to mess around because it will set us back for a long time. I refuse to believe that we will ever get out of the rubber bowl because they've been talking about the stadium for years and there is yet to be anything official. Meanwhile, UCF decided they wanted one, and they are getting it just like that.....along with a brand new arena too. And what about those contract negotiations?? Once again, way too much time while rival Can't jacks their bball coach to 350k. If Mack wants to earn the fans' trust and get people to games, he needs to stop messing around and get something done!
  21. yep and he's campaigning for building a retractable roof on cleveland browns stadium in hopes to attract a super bowl to cleveland. He's not a very big Charlie Frye fan though.
  22. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. If this was a career move, it was quite a stupid one if you ask me. She must not have been confident enough in her ability to bring a championship team to Akron. That might have given her her wish of being a major D-1 head coach. In that case, we don't need her.
  23. Here's hoping the place becomes a pile of rubble in a short while to make room for our new home.
  24. We don't have a big man or any overall size for that matter. Our biggest guy is a 6'9 project? I know that's not the see all tell all attribute of a good team, but when you want to stack up against the big boys and win the MAC championship it sure helps.
  25. 26 wins??What has Cribbs been giving you? I'm all about confidence but...
