  1. I'd never vote for someone with a last name that is one letter away from being Amish.
  2. I wonder if that stadium will be worth it after they pull the Big East's AQ status from them. Tear down a perfectly good stadium to build another after one good player goes through your school. This sounds like more of a resume padder than a need for a new stadium. College athletics are out of control.
  3. WWI had nothing to do with isolationalism and everything to do with the war prone Huns. WWII had everything to do with a Jew hating Nazi determined to take over Europe. It also had something to do with an attack in Hawaii, but the war was started long before that. Rick Santorum is part of the religious right and they are insane who read the Bible, but somehow can understand the central messages. He is probably now running for president for the same reasons people like Keyes ran....because they get to keep their campaign money after they drip out of the race. Newt will talk himself into a disaster. The ticking we all hear is the time bomb that is his mouth. Perry is like a monkey. The higher a monkey climbs up a tree, the more we see parts of the monkey we don't want to see. I'm going with Ron Paul even though he won't win.
  4. Terry Hoeppner, Joe Novak and Toledo Tom are people who come to mind when I think of successful mac coaches. Neither had a great resume prior to Akron. Neither had head coach experience. Novak and Toledo Tom were never coordinators (not sure about Hoeppner). Paul has just as much going for him as they did coming into their jobs. Also, the last thing we need to take into consideration when hiring this position is what conference Akron might be in five years from now. We need to worry about winning in the mac and deal with whatever happens when it happens. The priority is today, as it should be for all sports decisions. People buy tickets for today. Players play to win today. My prediction is we will still be in the mac fifteen years from now. I'm sure Paul will be long retired by then. Paul is one of many guys who can win at Akron.
  5. The Great GP1.
  6. Paul's team plays W-S State Saturday in Winston-Salem. Maybe the Great GP1 needs to make a road trip.
  7. Win games and the big donors will pay. Our stadium is already named. Winning will get the donations flowing. Naming rights are a form of advertisement. If the team wins, more people go to the game. More people go to the game, the more people see the advertisement.
  8. How come every other mac school can have immediate success with a new coach but us?
  9. Thanks for the link. Everyone should read it and think about Zips football since right before Faust was hired. In 1987, we had our first D-1A season so we were like a start up company. We should have been quick to fire coaches and slower to hire them over the years. It's hard to break the culture of anything. The culture in college athletics is to bring in a new AD who hires a buddy to take over Failing Sports Team X and turn it around. They think about other candidates for about 60 seconds and hire their friends. It's a horrible thing to do, but in college athletics, everyone does it.
  10. If you mean it is an easily forgettable wasteland, I would agree.
  11. Good post.
  12. I like the resume. 1. mac experience so he knows how hard it is to win in the mac. 2. Good experiece in the midwest 3. Coached with winning teams 4. Offense, offense, offense wins games in the mac and puts people in seats. 5. Looks like the under the radar guy I would like to see Again, bringing in good candidates makes for a good decision. It's like going to a party and all 20 girls there are good looking. If you pick one up, you couldn't make a bad decision.
  13. KD has a way of bringing the troops together after a couple of loses. Zips win.
  14. Claiming a player is "lost" is an old ZN.O catch phrase. It's one of those things Zips basketball fans say when they think they can see into the mind of a player.
  15. You are living in a dream world if you think that MAC schools get a bowl payout. Not a dime is shared from these games and there is actually an assessment paid by the member schools to buy slots in the extra bowl games. They bowls pay the league and the MAC writes checks back to ESPN in a money trading operation for the extra bowl slots. Check it out and you will find that this is 100% true. The only money that is made for MAC bowl teams is what comes from the school's who play in the games and what they sell in tickets. There is no actual cash payout. You're wrong, and very ignorant. ZipperRoo44 is correct and wise. Most low level bowls have a league "buy in" that accounts for 50% of the earnings. Basically, if the bowl pays $700K, the school has to pay $350 back to the bowl to get in as part of the conference association with the bowl. The remaining $350K typically is in the price of tickets at face value, which are highly inflated. The school can then sell those tickets for whatever price they wish. If the face value of a ticket is $60, the school can sell them for $10 per ticket. Schools lose money going to these low level games in an elaborate shell game designed to pad the pockets of bowl committee members and resumes of athletic directors. The bowl committee members take all of the money and the ADs don't really care the money is being taken because few people are paying attention how the scam really works.
  16. Did you actually read what Foster said about Akron? "On Monday, Foster offered a glimpse into what sort of head coaching gig he’s looking for, openly discussing the vacancies at Memphis and Akron. Both fired their coaches after just two seasons and the Hokies defensive coordinator labeled the two schools as “coach killers” right now. “Their administration is crazy,” Foster said. “They’ve got false visions of grandeur.” It does, give more balance to what the actual perception of the Akron job is outside of Akron. It also reinforces the view that for a coach to take this job he will be looking at more than just the facility. He will be looking at who he has to work for(we have all been there),the quality of life in the area(he may have a wife and kids who will be uprooted),the weather(oops) as well as money. Kind of brings one back to earth. Please do us all a favor and stop making sense......
  17. Is that Coach Bud Foster or Commander William Riker? For a guy who has never had the guts to sit in the big chair, he has an interesting opinions about leading a program. Great Star Trek reference GP1, but I don't think that Beamer is calling him "Number One" Not after they left a "number two" on the field last night.

  19. I was told by someone I respect, and don't think he would have any reason to lie, that Tressel was not on campus last Saturday. I believe him.
  20. Maybe I just don't know enough about fan boards, etc., but I'm shocked this kind of thing happens.
  21. To whom? To most Zips fans, obviously. I've never seen the ZNO board light up like it did last Tuesday w/ all the Jim Tressel rumors. Maybe it as just the "savior complex" kicking in. Just because there is a mob, doesn't mean the mob is right.
  22. In all my years of watching Zips football, I don't remember this happening to any current or former Zips. It was no secret when he was in school that he had a drug problem. I wonder how many people within the Athletic Department knew he was using hard drugs? I don't mean just smoking some pot either, but hard drugs like horse. Did anyone ever reach out to help?
  23. You're right. After eight games and a 3-5 record, there isn't a reason to press the panic button. The MAC is plenty crappy for the Zips to win a lot of games. Lots of Zips fans will be at best disappointed with a 3-5 start and at worst, furious at a slow start like that with the talent on the team. Myself, I'd wouldn't be furious, but I would be close. There is way too much talent on that team to start the season 3-5 and we need to start distinguishing ourselves beyond the MAC.
  24. To whom?
  25. Good post. Very exciting game. NIU's coach didn't just inherit decent team with talent, he inherited lots of veteran players. Taking over a team with a successful fifth year senior is a great start. The experience probably helped them stay composed last night.
