The first is easy. 1. Mike Clark. Not only is he the greatest running back ever, he is IMHO the best offensive player in Akron history. He could have played in any era in Akron history. When he played, the team was better for having him in the game. He looked a lot like Biggs, only slightly bigger. Look at the stats. In three years of starting, the least yards per carry was 4.3 his junior year. His senior year, when everyone with an IQ over 20 knew he was getting the ball, he averaged 7.3 yards per carry. Most importantly, when he played, the team WON. It is a crying ass shame the University has not retired his number. If they have, please correct me. 2. A healthy Brandon Payne. When he as healthy, he was explosive with not only quickness, but good speed as well. 3. James Black. Second all time in school history in total yards. He averaged 98.5 yards per game. Once ran the ball 52 times in a single game, can you say give me an ice pack. Two people could be third, but they don't have the records. First is Bobby Hendry who was a very solid player for three years. Second is Ty Nelson. Ty was fast and mean as a snake. Faust just didn't know what to do with him.

A football championship would be something that would generate increased interest for a new stadium. I overheard a couple of people talking at the Varsity A raffle about the stadium and I don't think we are as close to having a new one as we may hope. The property around the primary location is not as easy to get as we on this site may hope. I think we all were hoping to have a new stadium in three years and I really don't see that happening. We'll be lucky to get one in five years unless something drastic happens. The MAC Championship could increase the sense of urgency for a new stadium. The championship would be something not only the University could benefit from, but it would give northeast Ohio something to really hang it's hat on and generate future support (ticket sales and Foundation donations) for the school. Just look at the crowd for the Miami game last season. There was a great turn out for the game because the team actually had an important game late in the year. More than anyone else, I think Mike Thomas would benefit from the MAC Championship. He is a good man who has worked hard for the University and I believe has made some good decisions in hiring JD AND KD. A championship would solidify his position as Akron's best AD ever and move him on to bigger things which he will have earned. If we do win the MAC, he will be too expensive to keep around. When that new stadium is finally built, something in it should be named after him. I also think winning the football championship is more difficult than winning the basketball championship. In order to win football, you have to have a great season that gets you to Detroit where you play another team that had a great season. In basketball, you can have an average to above average season, get to Cleveland, and go on a run. Once in the basketball finals, you may end up playing a team that has gone on a nice run also and the Championship game is a #4 vs. #5 (if that is possible) in the finals whick makes it a much easier game to win. Anything worth having is difficult to achieve and I think football would be much more difficult to win making it much more valuable. Finally, a football championship would give the school national coverage for the MAC Championship and bowl game. While there is national coverage for basketball for the MAC Championship game, most March Madness games are only on television in local markets. The national coverage is much more important. By the way, did I mention bowl game. I went to a bowl game with my wife to see her school, Miami, play last December against ISU. Win or lose, the bowl games are a great experience for fans and for the schools themselves. I can still taste the red snapper with crab Creole sauce over it at Earnest's Orleans in Shreveport. Did I mention the crab claws with dipping sauce..... Anyhow, it's getting close to dinner time and I'm feeling kind of hungry.

Agreed!!!! Everyone stop posting. In fact, the people who run the site can take off my topic. I was worried that would happen when I posted it.

I was at a Reds game Monday night and I ran into a couple of OSU fans who had nothing but excuse after excuse for OSU. Everything from "Everyone does it" to the old reliable "At least they don't have guns". Soon, OSU fans will be as good as Notre Dame fans in making excuses for their team. As far as fan boards being an indication of overall opinion, I don't think that is a good measure. Look at this board. We all really care about Akron and 95% of the ALUMNI could care less. OSU is poised to go on another national championship run this year. Last week I was in Las Vegas and placed a $5 bet on them to win it all. The odds were only 12-1 which tells me everyone else thinks they are going on a run. We will see how these "pissed off" fans react to the off season problems if they hoist the Sears Trophy (or whatever they call it) again. My guess is that there will be a lot of people in Columbus with short memories.

I agree with everything you wrote Zipsrifle. I would just like to add to it. When JT says that the easy thing to do is kick a kid off of the team as he has in the past, he is completely being dishonest. The hard thing to do is to kick a kid off of the team and try to win without him. I think the truth of the matter is that OSU fans really don't care what the kids do off of the field as long as they are winning. I am also torn by this thought. My personal opinion is that I could care less what happens to Akron football players off of the field as long as they win. The winning would make the bull $#!+ much more easy to swallow. Would the ABJ be so forgiving if it was Akron players and they were winning MAC Championships one after another? I think they would be more than willing to bury the program. Especially that little prick Pluto. You all know I think Pluto's nice guy act is a bunch of BS. I'm going golfing Friday so I will not be in the Nation. Have a nice Memorial Day everyone. When you have the day off Monday, try to remember why.

http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/spor...es/11741913.htm There is a great case study in supply and demand waiting to happen in the Columbus drug dealing market. Now that OSU will have a tougher drug policy, we can make a couple of assumptions (which are debatable). First, OSU football players will have to go on their last binge of smoking pot. Secondly, the day the drug policy starts, the players will have to reduce their drug usage (maybe, again debatable). What does this have to do with supply and demand? Easy. The increased use of pot will drive up the cost of pot in the Columbus market. With the behavior of the Buckeye football team since Sweater Vest Jim took over, we all know a spike in their behavior can impact the entire market. The spike in their behavior will drive up the cost of pot as inventories are depleted. Following the spike in price, there will be an certain reduction in price after the drug policy takes over when inventories are replaced. My advice, buy stock now in Columbus drug dealers (CDD) until the day the drug policy is active and then ring the register. Take if for what it's worth. I just wanted to inject some economics into the board. Have a nice day everyone.

I'm 99% sure I know who Zips Win! is. If he is who I think he is, his list should become the "Official Top Ten Zips Basketball Players" list. He never misses a game and knows Zips basketball like the back of his hand. Good work Zips Win!

Scores in addition to wins.....nice work ITZ. I like your optimism. I think that win at Miami is realistic (mabye) and if it isn't, they are still looking at 7-4. There is also no reason to believe the MTSU will not be a win. If Ringer doesn't fumble the game away last year, we beat them. Beating NIU is also a possibility. NIU has a way of losing road MAC games on a regular basis. My biggest disagreement would be the 51-0 Can't score. I look for Akron to score a late touchdown and score a two point play with no time on the clock for a 53-0 win. No field goals in this game. Keep believing bro, you and I seem to be the only two on this board with any faith.
-
That's the style ITZ. If I've said it once, I'll say it a thousand times on this board. There is no reason to believe the Zips will not be as competitive as they were last year if not better. I have every faith in JD to prepare a team and get the best out of the team. While I was glad to see LO go, his players did play hard with the talent they had. Good coaching and hard play will be a theme revisited several times on this board next year. I have a sneaky feeling the Zips are going to play real good next year.

Wouldn't it be funny if Jim T. said: "We should feel sorry for guys like Erik Haw. With the arrest of Jonathan Skeete, we have been dealt a serious blow to our football program. After all, where are the guys going to go to buy good dope. That shit Jonathan was selling really kicks ass. We recommended Jonathan to all of our players because his dope gives a great buzz without all of the desire for a gyro or a trip to Hamburger Station so our players are able to keep their weight down. This is a sad day for Ohio State fans, alumni, faculty and staff. If you could all excuse me now, I have a new sweater vest to buy."

Although I am not a Buckeye hater, I would have to say that if any team has deserved the NCAA death penalty since it destroyed the SMU program, it is OSU.

Bringing Temple into the league makes no sense for either Temple or the MAC. Temple would be an eastern school playing in a mid west conference. It didn't work for Penn State and it certaily will not work for Temple. I also can not think of a single benefit for the league by bringing in Temple. Navy would be a different story. Typically, the military schools draw nice crowds to games. It could work out well for the MAC and Navy. Navy recruits nationally, so playing in a mid west conference will not negatively impact their recruiting. But then again, I like our chances in the MAC East with Navy and Temple. Think about it: Akron, Temple, Navy, Buffalo, Can't State, Ohio and throw in either Miami or BG and our chances look good. Have a good weekend everyone.

I never feared him one bit. He may be with Charlie for now, but there is no way he makes the team in the fall.

There is a town area (it's actually more of a road) in WL that has several bars near campus. You should not have any problem finding a place to have some fun. Just a warning though, you have to be smart to go to Purdue so the eye candy is not that great. As far as places to eat, there is a small diner called the Triple X that is famous. I wouldn't eat dinner there, but it is a neat thing to do for lunch. Frequently ABC will send a crew down to show it during a game. The place has a continuous counter that goes around the little diner and the little burgers they serve are great. You can get a burger, fries and a drink for something like $4.50. It may not look good on the outside, but the food is good. A agree that getting there is a pain. I would recommend the northern way taking you toward Chicago. Route 30 is suicide and Indianapolis is too far south. Once you get to South Bend, start looking for ways to get there at that point using back roads.

Nice work Capt. After the spring game, I was much less worried about the OL than before the game. While they were not what we would want, they did look better than expected. When they did run, they moved the ball well. They seemed to spend a lot of time in the spring game passing. I expect the same out of the QB position next year as I don't think 2,600 yards is too much to ask out of a D-I QB. Throwing slants and to the TE makes it easy to reach that yardage amount. The real test is going to be the ability of the team to get first downs and control field positon. If they can do that, it puts our defense in a much better position to make a difference. I do think the defense will be better next year and if it is, the offense will have more chances to score and also have less yardage to gain prior to scoring. I still think we might see some really good things from this team next year.

They played at Miami in 03. It has to be 04 because the uniform change was made in 03 and they are at the Rubber Bowl.

Frye to ditch 5 and where number 9 for Cleveland
GP1 replied to Big Zip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Dr.Z, If the retards at Browns Stadium still wear #54 for a guy who never played a down in a regular season (Speilman), you don't have to change your number. Just buy a new jersey. The money will go to Charlie for any products with his name on it. -
Four year contract starting at $600,000 and graduating up to $800,000. If he starts, he could make up to $1.2 mil in incentives (similar to Roethlisberger). Signing bonus of $500,000 spread out over the course of the contract. The only guarantee in the NFL is the signing bonus so if he is cut or traded, it will be the only money he makes. If this does happen, it will not happen for three years at the earliest. I wonder if he is working on his own brand of bad BBQ sauce similar to Kelly H.

I've mentioned this on the board before, and I'll mention it again. Chase stands a good chance, if he gets on with the right team, to have a long career as a long snapper. He's good at it, he's fast and he takes up a lot of space in the middle. Long snappers play sometimes for 15-17 years if they are good. He could have the longest NFL career of any Zip ever.

Stadium Update - A Little Info
GP1 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
When the Pirates built PNC park, I bought my parents a brick (8" x 8") with their name on it for $65. It is behind the home plate gate. My wife bought a normal house type brick for me for $50. To this day, I still have no idea where it is and rocket scientists working for the Pirates know where it is but they always forget to send out the map to me each time I ask. -
You think I don't know I have issues? Of course I have issues....what does that have to do with my post?

I have mixed feelings about the pick. As a Zips fan, I'm happy to see one of our own do really well and make a lot of money. In the end, it is just a really easy and high paying job. Charlie cashing in is a good thing for him and the University. I've said a lot of negative things about Charlie on this page, but always in reference to his football performance (lack of winning) and not his person. He is a good person (which we are all supposed to be) and he has earned this money and I will still never say anything bad about his person. Being a Steelers fan though, it is open season on him from my stand point. I have never been as happy with a Browns draft pick as I was last night. Secondly, I'm happy because I bet a Marshall fan $50 that Frye would get drafted in the first three rounds and he did. I will donate the money and a matching gift from my company totaling $100 to the University of Akron Foundation. Thirdly, as a human being and a Steelers fan I feel bad for Charlie because he has to play in front of the "Dumbest Fans In The World" for the start of his career. They will run him out of Cleveland faster than 19. It will be brutal to watch. I will pray for the day when he is run out of town and gets a second chance with fans who aren't so bitter they do nothing at games except make @$$e$ out of themselves and their community. Bitter and dumb is a terrible combination. Lastly, as a Steelers fan, I'm happy that Charlie will one day be starting against the Steelers. He has never beat Big Ben and he never will. With Charlie starting and his record of winnig, it will guarantee the Browns 6-7 wins a year and the Steelers will be guaranteed playoff spots year in and year out. What Bill Schottencowher does with those playoff spots will be another issue. Anyhow, good job Charlie! I look forward to seeing you against the Steelers. Joey Porter wants to say hello.

Maybe some day, but not any time soon. Certainly not as long as Ben is with the Steelers.
