It does not look like any of the posters on this topic watched the last two games. The team looked better than it has all year, and we were one fumble away from 2 wins. JU is a better leader, the team responds to him, and he is a better passer. He gives the Zips the best chance to win.

I never saw this kid play, so I do not have an opinion on how good he is as a RB. However, I know that we have Kellom who has red shirted, and I am very happy with him. If I remember correctly, he was first team Ohio D1 his senior season. He ran for over 1900 yards and that included sitting out 6 second half's of games since his team was up so big and they pulled the starters. Imagine the number of yards he would have gotten if he played full games. A lot of kids want to go away, so I do not know what happened here. It does seem odd that no P5 schools came calling.

Bigjim's prediction is that Buffalo will unfortunately win, but with Akron covering the spread which is currently Buff -11.0. I think that the Bulls will be motivated to get in a bowl game, and as was stated above, the Zips will play some redshirting freshman which may hurt this game's effort but help in the future. I hope I am wrong, and the Zips dominate like they did at NIU. T minus 7 hours and counting. Go Zips!!!

But, there are 79 teams that have qualified and 80 are needed for 40 games. Buffalo would be the 80th team if they win over Akron or some other provisions would need to be made.

I am sorry that you had issues with MaxPreps in the past, but it looks like they got it correct this time. I found two additional websites to confirm that Choctaw HS is 11-1 this football season. One of the sites was the Choctaw HS website. I could not find any data to confirm Wassel's stats on these sites though. It looks like they lost their opener and have rattled off 11 consecutive wins. I am a little surprised that 7-5 Toledo -2.5 is favored over 9-3 Ohio in the MAC Championship game. Maybe it is because Ohio's QB is injured and out.

My guess (and it is speculation) is that the MAC wants to get the game over with ASAP in the event that Buffalo wins and becomes bowl eligible. Bowl games participants have started to be named, and the MAC wants to ensure that Buffalo is not left behind if they become bowl eligible. I believe that the MAC has affiliations with 6 bowls, and as of now, there are only 5 bowl eligible teams in the MAC. A Buffalo win will get the number to 6. catdaddyp please comment if I am off base.

I was looking up the season long stats of top 100 players at positions of Akron and Buffalo on ESPN.com of the players who are expected to play Friday (did not include Irons and surprised Victor Jones was not on the sack list). One caveat is that Akron and Buffalo have played 11 games while everyone else has played 12. Numbers should increase. I went through a lot of numbers so I may have missed some stats. -Cole Snyder, Buffalo QB is 58th in passing at 2501 yards -Former Buffalo QB from Stow Kyle Vantrease is 3rd in the nation in passing yards at 3,897 for Georgia Southern. -Bubba is 9th in tackles at 118 -Shaun Dolac from Buffalo is 5th in tackles at 123 -James Patterson from Buffalo is 50th in tackles at 98 -Jacq Louis is tied with Alex Adams at 50th in receiving at 837 yards On this limited data, it tells me that Buffalo has a better defense, but Akron has a slightly better offense. I really want to agree with you, but I need to see a bigger sample size to give him the job and not have a QB competition in the spring and fall. I do believe that the Zips offense was much more productive the last game and a half when JU was the QB. The team seems to respond to him very well and the running game improved with him at QB. I do believe that JU needs more experience against FBS teams to get used to the speed of the game, but he has been improving over the last 6 quarters. However, Irons has shown to be a much better runner. I would not use the Buffalo game to make a final decision, but it should be a data point to use going forward. The bottom line is that the Zips finally beat a FBS team. This win along with the Suckeyes loss made it a great day!! Go Zips!!!
