  1. After one high school game, I am still very high on Ian Kipp from Mentor. One intangible that he has is that he is a winner. This is upon all of his physical and mental tools. I hope that Coach Arth is using his contacts to pursue this quarterback. He is the real deal.
  2. I looked at the roster and there are 19 seniors and red shirt seniors on the roster. I would also like to know the 16 seniors on scholarship as well as the overall 78 that are on scholarship. I think that a good HC can catch up with the total number of scholarships. Now, the transfer portal is pulling student athletes away, but if it is managed correctly, can add student athletes to the team. Coach Arth seems to have a different approach than Coach Bowden. Let's hope Arth's approach results in more wins.
  3. I slept on my reply so that I did not let my emotions get the best of me. Ill was picked to finish at or near the bottom the of the Big 10. They did get some transfers that would help, but this was a game in which Akron should have been competitive. But, that was not the case. As far as I am concerned, this is a bad coach (Lovie Smith) outcoaching a Division III coach (Arth). It wasn't even close. Arth looked like he had no clue to respond to what was going on. To all of the alumni that wanted Bowden out, you got your wish. I agree that he should have been shown the door, but the next option needs to be a good move. I would be happy to eat crow if by the end of the year, the Zips are 7 - 5, I will greatly apologize, but I would not bet against it. I will still be at every game rooting on my team, but the game crowds will be scarce. The national groups picked Akron to go winless, and I hope that is not the case. If my voice is heard, we will now go 11-1, win the MAC championship and bowl game. Go Zips!
  4. Looking at the roster, I see that the DL has added some good size, and I hope that they are equally talented. The DL was my serious concern a couple of months ago. I also looked at the list of seniors and red shirt seniors. Based on the performance from last year, it looks a little thin. I hope I am wrong. What other returning seniors had a good year last year beside the following: Lako, Featherstone, Brown, and Davis. Maybe add Ward to the list, and I am hoping Jest steps up. Please let us know what other players will provide senior leadership and results. Otherwise, we will be really counting on the underclassmen.
  5. Any updates from recent practices? I am looking for any news on the upcoming season. Starting to get excited!
  6. I have some inside info that Akron has offered Ian Kipp of Mentor. He is going to be a junior in the fall, but he is lights out as a runner and a passer. He has several MAC offers and the Big 10 (Michigan) is starting to come on strong. If you can, go back and watch the games that Mentor won big, and then his performance in the playoffs. His coaches are comparing him to Trubisky, with a larger up side. I doubt that Akron has a chance with him, but I am hoping that Coach Arth can convince him that his qb experiences would merit enrollment at my alma mater.
  7. I rooted for and supported every coach that led the Zips, but if I had to rank them, my list is as follows: 1. Coach Arth Based on the results, I do not see that anyone else deserves to be on the list.
  8. I know its early and the signing period has just recently closed. But, are there any rumors on grad transfers or other transfers that might be joining the team this year? The spring game is less than 2 months away, but I need some Zips football news. Especially if that news says that some good DL players will be on the team next fall. That is the area that needs some help, at least on paper. Go Zips.
  9. Great out of conference schedule. In the MAC, you play the schedule that you are dealt, with no complaints. I do not like two Tuesday night games late in the season. Attendance will be sparse as in the past seasons, especially if bad weather is on the horizon. Many season ticket holders will think about their renewal, since we will be paying for 6 games and going to 4. However, it is a better situation than last year with that concert counting as a game.
  10. I went through the list of Bowden's 2019 recruits on ZipsNation, and per 24/7, it looks like many have not signed with any school. That is unless the website is not updating after Wednesday. What I thought looked like a good class, does not look very good. Great job coach Arth. You set a good foundation for a future MAC championship.
  11. We need some last minute D linemen, hopefully both ends and tackles. Finish strong coach.
  12. The comments regarding the new coach are very short sighted. Akron football is a business. In business, there has to be contingency plans. Contingency A, B, C, and D should be laid out on an annual basis. If Larry does not have a list of potential hires ready to go, then he needs to go back to the Golden Dome and pray that Touchdown Jesus will rescue him and all of us Zip fans.
  13. Ian Kipp, sophomore quarterback from Mentor. This kid is the real deal. He can throw, he can run, and he commands the huddle. He will probably go big time, but the Zips should offer now and be very persistent. Mentor coaches have allegedly said that he is better than Mitchell Tribusky.
  14. Great discussions. Nothing will happen until the end of the season. Let's beat BG and hopefully win one of the other three games and go bowling. Does anyone know the final decisions with Nebraska? Will Akron get the $1.1mm or is it lost since Nebraska played BC?
  15. TW is doing ok, but this board has him as the next coming. The comments here have him over-rated. I hope he grows into the legend, but give him some time. For now Pohl is the answer. Long time reader, first time responder.
