Can't State Predictions

I remember 2006...Pulling into Applebees. Next to another car. This anorexic hippie looking at the back door of my wife's car. "Fear the roo huh? We're going to beat you!" she said right to my face"I don't think so hippie." was my quick whitted resposne to her piss colored shirt.I have never been so disgusted with the performance of my alma mater as I was that day. Making Edelman look like some all-world QB.This is year is different. The defense seems to have a better handle on QB's that run around. The offense is much more potent (even if our top two running backs are down). The team was disappointed last week, mostly because they didn't finish. But it's perfect to have a rivalry game following a loss like Cinci. Mostly because it forces you to bring emotion to your game. You have to forget the rest of the season. This week, the offense is going to finish every play, every drive. My prediction: Zips 38 - Piss Rags 17

I like 27-14 Akron... I think Can't State might make a few plays to get them on the board, but they can't stop our "O". I'm eyeing 24-7 entering the 4th, with Can't getting a late meaningless TD.Additionally, I hope this is the start of something with Devoe. I had the opportunity to see him in person a few times in HS. He's legit. Redshirting? I don't care for that with a guy this talented. We should just enjoy the next 3-4 years with him. As some have stated, I hope our recruiting (and our program) is bolstered enough 5 years from now that we're recruiting his level of talent consistently and we won't have to worry about replacing him.

g-mann...I went to that game two years ago, and tailgated. I don't believe I have ever had a more embarrassing day as a Zips fan. Not only did they unexpectedly beat the crap out of us, but they mocked us too. But on the upside, it really made me look forward to last year's game at the Rubber Bowl, which might be one of the greatest times I have had at a Zips football game.Other than that stretch of wins at the start of the 2006 season, this still looks like the same old Can't State. They just caught us at the perfect time, when they were playing well, and had confidence. They don't have that right now, and I anticipate a much easier time out there. As every article I have read indicates, we're playing much better than expected. I think that applies to both sides of the ball. I'm looking for our offense to put 3-4 touchdowns on the board against a weak Can't defense, and our own defense to make some big plays once again.Blue/Gold Team = 27Blue/Pee Yellow Team = 17Yes, we'll probably have an extra point get blocked, which will be one of the only things for Can't fans to cheer about in this one. My only reservation...this is a rivalry game...anything can happen.

I can't believe I'm making the trek over to Can't again after that mess 2 years ago.30 - 17 Akron. Come on, Zips. DON'T do that :nutkick: to me AGAIN!Any freebies floating around out there? Daughter is last-minute addition to the day's activities. Don't want to give Can't any more money than I have to :P .

I sort of hate predicting this game because of the nature of the rivalry. The loss in 2006, while painful, is not what I am worried about. I actually think that game wasn't a fluke.....the flushes were just better that year.I'm more concerned with the type of game where the better team manages to find a way to lose. I can think of TWO other games at Dix where the Zips were definitely the better team yet somehow managed to lose. In 1992, the Zips had what may have been Faust's best team (finished 7-3-1) yet Can't stuffed the box on D and Zips QB Marcel Weems was hand-cuffed by a seemingly rigid, run-based game plan. A fumble returned for a TD ws a killer in that 20-16 defeat. In Jason Taylor's last year (1996) the Zips were leading in the 4th quarter to have the game completely blow up in their faces with the unlikely final of 32-17 (it seemed like the flushes scored 8 TD's in that disgusting 4th quarter). Mind you, UA had just come off a 27-7 win over Western Michigan the week earlier, and this was the same team that gave Va Tech fits in the Bowl.Having said all of this, I still feel as if the Zip O-Line will dominate and lead UA to a solid win. Edelman might make it scary for a while, but I look for WHOMEVER at RB for UA to run well, particularly in the latter stages of the game.Zips 30flushes 20

Akron 34Can't 13We will score either for tds and Igor will come of his slump and kick 2 fg's or 5 tds with Igor missing an extra point. Like the rest of you, I was totally embarassed by our performance in'06. And yes it was fun last year. But being able to retain teh Wagon Wheel while playing at the Hippie Dome would be outstanding. :screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks:

johnnyzip84...I was at that game in 1992. There was indeed a play where Akron was running a reverse, and somehow the ball was sitting there on the turf just waiting for someone to pick it up. The Can't linebacker made the play of the game, and I still have an image of that in my head. Beyond that, we missed a FG from close range right before halftime, which gave Can't even more confidence. It was certainly one of those games where you say to yourself "what in the world is happening"? Heck, we lost to a not very good Can't team right in the middle of a 7-3-1 season (our best in D-1A). Those are the kinds of things that happen in rivalry games. The scary thing to me is......Can't appears to have nothing else to play for this year.....YIKES....that is never a good sign.

I was there in 1992 and a bunch before and after. I've always had a good time except for two years ago. The Po Po were jerks, a Can't State student tending the beers wouldn't let me buy one at halftime despite having about 500 poured in front of him (they stopped selling the damn tickets), and of course the outcome was terrible. It was all so bad I pledged to never return to Dick's stadium. As for this game, I don't like the set-up. We need to have our heads on right and not repeat 2006. Play everyone. To heck with redshirts. Run your trick plays to gain the Mo. Run the score up if you can. Go for two late even if you don't need it. Remember the steal in 2006 at Dick's. Keep the Wheel.

Funny story -- My buddy is a K.e.n.t grad. He bet 50 bucks on the Fl.ashes vs. Ball State last week. They were getting 21 points, and Love was out for BSU. K.e.n.t scores a late TD to make the score 41-20. They miss the extra point. Push. So remember, if the game comes down to a kick...their kicker stinks too.In 2006 the Zips were big-headed. And one-dimensional. If Getsy-to-Harvey worked, we scored. If not, we didn't. That's the way it was all season long. We can score in a lot more different ways in 2008 than 2006. And, I think our defense is comparatively better too.Missing Jarvis will hurt K.e.n.t. a lot more than our RB injuries hurt the Zips. The big questions this week:1.) Will Jacq believe in his OL enough to wait the extra second and hit Bowser and Jones deep, or will he rush his deep tosses like he has for the better part of the season? If he's patient, he can throw for 400+ and 4 TD's tomorrow.2.) Will JD quit going for the home run on 3rd/4th and short and just move the chains? If we win this game, I think we play for a MAC Championship vs. Ball State. If we lose it, I say we win 2 more games the remainder of the year, and swirl down the toilet. I don't say that because of the mental impact of a loss...I say it because losing to Ke.n.t. would mean we're a really bad football team. We aren't. We're actually pretty good, and will win easily.Zips 42K.e.n.t. 20

JD hasnt done the play calling for two or three season now. That job is Joe Moorhead's. All though i am sure JD does give his input on plays being called. I do agree with your assessment on going to a MAC championship if we win. I think we can beat all of the remaining teams on the schedule this season. How sweet would it be to 9-3 at the end of the regular season. Go Zips! Flush the Fl ashes

Captain....remember....as you state that JD needs to stop going for the home run on 3rd and 4th down in short yardage....that's exactly the gamble that won us the Can't game last year. The critical TD pass from Jackson to Arthur in the back on the end zone was on a 4th and short. Also, winning this game is not going to catapult us to a MAC title. Some HUGE tests remain....especially a game against BG, who looks to be far and away the best team in the East at this point.

:D uh...all of you who said this is the season maker or breaker raise your hands...cuz it is...thats on both sidelines...for can't its the only meaningful win they get all year...for the ZIPS a win is a shot at the MAC Champeenship...a loss...well start with JD and work your way down...too close to call cuz the Zips are beat up...don't assume jarvis won't appear and don't assume the edelman won't do what he usually does to us...oh boy

I put the score as 31-27 Akron. Unfortunately I'm not sure the Zips can contain Edelman -- running quarterbacks always seem to give the Zips fits. If they can contain Edelman I think this game is lobsided. I think Rason missed a point in his video preview of the game when the guy from Can't said they played even against BSU -- the final score looked similar, but BSU was missing there best player in the Can't game. Hard to compare the games when there top threat is on the sideline. This Akron team is better than expected and this is the most pivotal to the year -- I agree with others who say this game could be the catalyst to a second trip to Detroit and another shot at BSU with our their wideout.
