Captain Kangaroo
Could THIS finally be the year Conyers busts out? I doubt it...but I wish him well. I predict 4ppg & 4rpg for Jimmy in 2009-10. Percentage-wise, it would be a big increase over his career numbers.Look out for Conyers in 2009-
johnnyzip84
This is way off-topic, but wouldn't it have been interesting to see if Jimmy could have put on about 35 pounds and tried out as a DE in football? As far as hoops is concerned, Jimmy seems to play better when the focus isn't on him as much. With the number of players scrambling for PT this year, maybe this will actually benefit him. I'd much rather get 18-20 quality minutes out of him than 30 minutes with a few lapses in concentration. Dr Z
Could THIS finally be the year Conyers busts out? One game in, the answer is "no" FOUR fouls in seven minutes and ZERO points!?!?

MDZip
I would like to be the first to congratulate Jimmy on his first bucket of the year. Also of small note, Ronnie Steward got a couple of minutes and Steve Swiech made an appearance.
Dr Z
I predict 4ppg & 4rpg for Jimmy in 2009-10. Percentage-wise, it would be a big increase over his career numbers. Jimmy played his best game of the season. He is now up to 2.5 ppg and 2.2 rpg. Can he reach CK's high expectations?? Stay tuned.

After 11 pts & 5 rebounds against A&M, Jimmy is starting to meet CK's high expectations.
Dave in Green
CBS Sports credited Conyers with being "Player of the Game" for Akron. From the netcast I saw, he continues to show confidence.CBS Sports Link
Quickzips
I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm for what Jimmy has done the last 3 games because we've seen spurts like this from him before, but if he keeps playing the way he has it is a huge plus for us. Right now we don't have anyone else who can really play the SF spot. The Brett's and Nikola can do it in spurts, but none of them are a true 3. Conyers is the only guy on the roster that really fits the spot. If he can keep building on these performances and continue to gain confidence it will go a long way to getting back to the promised land. One thing noone is talking about with him is how good of a FT shooter he is. I think he's somewhere around 85% on the season right now. If he can keep his confidence up and take the ball to the hoop more and more often it will really put a lot of pressure on our opponents defense. This season is yours for the taking, I hope you torch it up all year. JC's got his chance to see big minutes this year. It's his last season as a Zip and he's taking advantage of it. Which is more than I can say for other members of the senior class, although only temporarily I'm sure. This team is getting close to finding their rhythm I think. Once they start clicking completely it's gonna be a pretty special thing and Jimmy Conyers can play a big part in that success. He's been tough on the boards this year and that was a little bit of a weakness of this team last year. Boards play a big part. And yes, Conyers' shooting touch as of late has been quite excellent. Maybe he can be the glue guy at the 3 this year like Nate was able to do last year. It's all you JC. This year is yours man!
Quickzips
I have to ask Cap'n, are you ready for a little side of crow on Conyers yet? Today is six games in a row he's been getting significant minutes and it will be six games in a row that we've gotten good production out of him. I'm just hoping he can keep this up for the rest of the season. A productive Conyers is just another weapon for us.
Hilltopper
Dare I say it? Jimmy Conyers has been the Zips most consistant player this season. He is making all the little plays, the dirty work. He goes after every rebound and is our best defender. Hmm, kinda reminds me of another guy from last years team. Nate Linhart
Quickzips
The Conyers line for today. 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, .500 from the field, hit his only FT and put in a 3 for good measure. Jimmy is playing well. Finally starting to earn that scholarship. Since starting to see consistent minutes six games ago he is averaging 8.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.2 steals with 53% shooting from the field and 90% from the line. I think a lot of what made his shot look so darn awkward was that he was a southpaw.

MDZip
Lets keep this thread going for a while, maybe like how we detailed last years senior, Nate, on his way to 1,000 points. So Jimmy's year so far (points/rebounds):0/10/00/02/5Looks like the Captain could be right8/312/1111/56/96/310/710/1922/5Definite signs of life!Jimmy's averages at this point7.25/5.6 - well above CK's expectations (though I am sure CK is quite happy to have underestimated him).Throw out those first four games and the averages rise to 10.6/7.75 - very nice. Then along comes this Jimmy Conyers MAC East Player of the WeekHe has probably been the best player to date - looks like he might very well fulfill that great potential. Love to see it - nice job Jimmy!
Quickzips
At this point, the only thing I really can't figure out is why we haven't seen it sooner? Was it simply a matter of not getting enough minutes thanks to KD's short leash, or did Jimmy just somehow put it all together just in the last month or so? If this kid had these kinds of performances in him all along, I just can't figure out why he couldn't get more playing time. If he had this in him all along, why not start him at SG, or give him some more minutes off the bench at SF the last couple years? Ohh well, guess we just have to enjoy the ride from here on in and let hindsight remain 20/20.

Perhaps it took that for him to stop being so tentative and gain the confidence he needs. He's always had the skills...he was just too nervous to use them in a game situation. From what I've heard, the guy has been unstoppable in practice since he got here, but until now hasn't shown it on the court. Glad to see it, Jimmy. You're fun to watch.
