Moving on to NC State

Recommended Posts

I expect an entirely different Zips team in Daytona. I think Dambrot will have his rotations a little more cleaned up. I expect at least 1 if not 2 or 3 changes on the starting lineup (I can't imagine KD starting Carroll all weekend and I would expect Humpty to be inserted into the starting lineup instead of Roberts or McClanahan, you may even see Zeke get a start). I also expect that a week of tough practices and the wakeup call that was Sunday afternoon will have the Zips much more focused. Maybe I'm a bit optimistic, but if the Zips show up and play 40 minutes every night I think there's a pretty good shot we can go 3-0 for the weekend.

NC State does something that I think would be cool for UofA to do. On their schedule, it shows their first game against St. Something being played in "Reynolds". Reynolds is their old arena on campus. They now play off campus in the same arena the NHL team plays in. Am I the only one who thinks UofA should play their exhibition game in Memorial Hall? I've been away from campus for a long time.....Is Memorial Hall even still standing?

Memorial is still standing, but to be honest, I don't understand why we would do this. It isn't like the JAR is off campus and Memorial is on campus like NC State is dealing with. On top of that, though Reynolds doesn't appear to be the greatest arena ever, it does have pretty good capacity and could still be a passable DI arena if need be. You can't say that about Memorial (although some would argue you can't say it about the JAR either). It isn't like we're trying to get all nostalgic and going back to the good ole days when we were a national title contender or something. I don't know, I just don't see what this idea would accomplish.

I agree .. but maybe not about Memorial. In my imagined future where the Zips are playing in Plusquelic Pavilion on the edge of campus and are routinely recruiting top 100 guys like Zeke and Dakotah Euton .. I think the JAR fits the bill quite well.As an alumn of another big-10 school, I can tell you the best thing tOSU did for the rest of the conference was move out of St. John Arena .. great home court advantage .. a classic bandbox. A couple of years ago (maybe last year) they played one game there due to a conflict or something .. and the place was hopping. Pitt should do the same with Fitzgerald Fieldhouse .. hardly anyone ever came in there and won.We should save this post .. probably not good for Memorial, as it's coming down in the next year or so .. but maybe the JAR once the team has grown into a new arena.

Ok...I'm getting tired of the Thread-hijacking Amish Douche wrecking my topic... :mad_flame:;) Back to the NC State game:

Radio: Akron-ISP Sports Network - SportsRadio 1350 AM (WARF) in Akron, with Rob Gidel handling play-by-play (3 p.m. ET airtime).
No Frenchie! Say it ain't so!?3:30pm tip-off means - Pack your radios w/your work lunch tomorrow!Broadcast should seamlessly dovetail into the 5:30pm football game vs. BG.UA's games on Saturday (versus Drake at 1:15 p.m.) and Sunday (versus Howard at 11 a.m.) will also air on SportRadio 1350 AM, with pregame coverage starting 30 minutes prior to tip off.

That's just crazy talk. Everyone knows a Amish man wouldn't own a computer..... He would use his next door neighbor's for free, but he would never own one. I thought more people might think playing a preseason game in Memorial might be interesting.

I want to see a leather helmet "throw-back" game between UA and K.e.n.t. next year at The Rubber Bowl.

I popped into Memorial Hall on the day of the home opener for football. Its even smaller and crappier than I remember. By comparison, the JAR looks like the Q. Other than for a few of us old guys curiosity, I see no reason why we would ever play another game there ever! Its destined for the wrecking ball soon and I will not miss it at all.

Wouldn't it be just as easy to remove the doors from the bathroom stalls at The Big Phone Booth?

You haven't been back for a game yet, have you? I of course use the term "game" loosely.
Please tell me we didn't build a $65 million stadium without doors on the bathroom stalls....... :(

No no no .. just thinking that it'd take a whole lot more than removing bathroom stall doors to come even close to evoking memories of the Rubber Bowl at the Info. It's phenomenal .. and in a completely different league.I think they'd have to close 90% of the press box, shutter all but one concession stand and one set of restrooms, import some splinters for the seats and insects into the open restrooms .. and it still would give a throwback feel.
