Next year he will be a terror, and after that who knows...He definately has the moves.Steve French was comparing him to Len Paul. I saw almost every game Len Paul played (he was 6'3" BTW, not the 6'5" they were saying, he just played big) and this guy looks better. That inside move is sweet, and he looks like a dead on 3 point shooter. Wish we had him!

Hilltopper
I'm thinking he might need to add a few pounds before the NBA comes calling. That guy could leap like no one you ever saw. I knew he was big time talent, and he had a 12 year NBA career.I think I saw some of that in Cooper today. He was amazing for a true freshman, and like the person above said, we will have to face him for three more years......unless......... Thats about right. His performance today was by far the best I have seen from a freshman in this conference. If OU just fills modest talent around him and adds a better post player than KVK then the Bobcats will assume the role of MAC east favorites for three years to come. If OU had any depth at all this year they would be a very tough out in Cleveland, still might be.Yes, this kid has the ability to be one of the best MAC guards ever. akronzips71
If he was playing for us this year we would have a shot at the sweet 16. You heard it here first. Someone that gives us another 15 or 20 points a game with great passing ability. Please, just give us one of those. And only Ohio, Loyola and Cant offered him a scholarship. Seems to me he slipped thru the cracks. NBA talk aside, he is certainly talented enough to play for any college team.

And it also seems that the Zips defense (not only McNees) is making a lot of NBA prospects out of our competition lately. It used to be unheardof that an individual would go for 25+ against the Zips. Not anymore.Cooper had a nice game. He does remind you of a Spud Webb/Earl Boykins type-player. But he has a hell of a long way to go.I'm sure Miami thought Steve McNees was going to be an unstoppable force when he torched them for 6 threes two seasons ago. Ditto Brett McKnight his Freshman year against K.e.n.t. One MAC game does not an NBA star make. The book will be out on Cooper. Teams will be ready for him in Cleveland. We'll see if he can back it up.
skip-zip
He should "hope" to get a chance to play in the NBA 3 years from now. If this guy leaves early for the NBA, at any point before the end of his senior season, and actually makes it......I'd call that a big time shocker. Zip Watcher
Anyone catch what he was listed at on the program? Was it 5-11?If the guy was a Zip, we'd be labeling him 6-1 minimum. He had a nice game, and has a nice game. If he can thicken up just a little without losing his quickness, he should have a good shot at the next level.I thought the difference today was depth. End of 2 OT's, pretty much the same amount of fouls called each way, and OU had a little more foul trouble than the Zips did. Also, I think when Brett caught fire in the OT periods, there was a big energy level difference between the teams.Big BIG performance from both Seniors Sunday. Great work. Nice to string some of these tight games into wins. B) Go Zips!
Zips Win!
Agree. Depth worked in our favor yesterday, along with 17 missed free throws..But I ask, who is the best team in the MAC East, the first place team or the last place team?I know one thing, if OU got to play a 3 on 3 , 20 minute game with one time out, they would dominate the MAC..After watching yesterday, there is no way CMU has the best backcourt in the MAC, OU does hands down...And to think that one of the MAC's finest officials is also a lead NFL official...How does he sleep at night? Zips Supporter
NBA is a bit premature, but he is leading the conference in steals and assists... he's a good one. This guy D.J. Cooper is a great talent. I even saw how well he played in their game at Miami. OU has always been an offensive oriented team and likes to turn it on in the 2nd half, just like we try to pour it on in the 1st half. In the past 5 years, I have always thought of OU as one of those teams that plays their very best A game only at home but underachieves on the road like 80% of the season. Same for Buffalo. In the past 10 years or so, OU has always been in the top half of the MAC as far as recruiting in my opinion but their records usually don't show for it. If they had more depth and played more than 8 guys a game, their conference record should be right there with us and Can't. If D.J. Cooper improves his numbers and helps his team achieve better records year after year, he will definitely get professional notice. Just like Bramos for Miami did and he certainly can play in Europe. As far as Cooper, he is probably one of the most talented guards in the MAC I have seen since probably Bonzi Wells of Ball State in the 90's. Bonzi Wells could have played for a high major school in my opinion, especially during that time in the mid to late 90's where it was easier for a mid-major school to get attention. Like Cooper scored 33 in a game and no one said anything about it on ESPN 360. Szczberiak with Miami during his time would score 30 a game randomly and he would get noticed right away, he was simply a prolific scorer. We had ours in Joe Jakubick of course. ZachTheZip
Cooper's numbers will go down if OU adds more depth or gets a better supporting cast around him, simply because he won't be relied on to carry the team as much. Depth worked in our favor yesterday, along with 17 missed free throws..And to think that one of the MAC's finest officials is also a lead NFL official...How does he sleep at night?I just looked up the stats. There were 72 FTs taken in a 50 minute game. Only 59% of them were made. FG percentages were terrible. I have to give you guys credit. If you could sit through a game like that, you could probably teach the CIA a thing or two about how to survive waterboarding.
