Thoughts on 2010 FB schedule?

Looking at the layout of the schedule just released on GoZips.com, I have to say that I like the layout of the schedule as a whole:- opening with two home games- opening with a "name" school- only one long layoff (11 days)- closing with two home games- nice mix of home and away- Miami back on the scheduleAnyone else have a take on the schedule?

It looks to me like another one of those top-heavy MAC schedules where we will need to win out the final two, and maybe three games to have a shot at the East crown. But, it can be done. Big Game Of the Year (BGOY), looks to be NIU at home in early October. I'd call it a "must win". WMU home game will be very important also. Win those two, and Akron is a contender.

Based solely on the schedule itself and not the opponents, I like the way its layed out. Last year we had that month when we had 0 home games. At least with this schedule, we've got a home game once ever 3 weeks. Starting with 2 home games, and ending with 2 is a big plus in my book. Sucks we got stuck with a Wednesday game, considering the number of Saturday games we got, I am definitely happy. As far as the opponents, its clear this is still a predominantly JD schedule, as expected. I dont particularly like playing Kentucky and Indiana on consecutive weekends both on the road because the wear-and-tear it'll put on our players, but hopefully our cupcake the week before will help get us rested up. Am I the only one who notices we don't have any Bye weeks in the middle of the schedule? I wont doubt that I am wrong, I don't see any listed or any large gaps in the dates aside from the week and a half we have between the Ball State and Miami games. Regardless, looks to be a good schedule.

I'm opposite. I like it. I hope it toughens our team up. I'm excited about Kentucky and plan on going. I bet the players from last year feel like they owe IU one. They know they can play with em with PN16 at the helm.

Not a bad point.. I guess it does have its perks. Still a little confused on the absence of the bye weeks in the schedule unless we're getting them at the beginning and end of the schedule. If thats the case, thats going to wear on our players more than the back-to-back road games against BCS conference teams.

You can look at the bye week as being either the 13th or 20th of November. Its just that the Miami game on Wednesday got stuck right in the middle of that time. For a Wednesday game, that's not so bad.

While I called it a :nutkick: schedule before, I will add that there isn't a single game in which it would be completely shocking for the Zips to be competitive late in the game and/or even pull off the upset. It's been a while since you could say that heading into a season. I agree with Z.I.P. regarding the NIU game as being pivotal. I often find myself framing a Zip football schedule in terms of how it sets up the annual Wagon Wheel meeting. In the parlance of many current performance appraisal forms, I hereby define a "stretch goal" for the 2010 Zips heading out of the gate, consisting of the following.1) Win at least ONE of the three BCS games2) Do not get caught "Watching" Chauncey Gardiner's Web3) Win the Homecoming game versus NIUIf the stretch goal can be achieved, I think there's an excellent chance for a relatively quick turnaround in the football program, like many of us expect is possible with the current caliber of players.

2) Do not get caught "Watching" Chauncey Gardiner's Web
As long as they are not satisfied with just "Being There", they'll be fine. Man you stretched a little with that one. :)This is the first time in a long time I can remember there was no ATM game, so at least there is a punchers chance of winning against every team we play.

I like seeing The Sweaters back, will be nice to see how they play in 2010.
While we've all mostly been focusing on (and pleased with) the early play (and potential) of PN16, Zac Dysert actually garnered considerably more publicity in his freshmen season. Of course he saw a lot more playing time and threw a WHOLE lot more passes (Link). Besides the potential Keith-Nicely rivalry, the Dysert-Nicely rivalry also looks to offer a lot of MAC East excitement over the next few years.LinkEdit: MDZip, I plead guilty on the "stretch" charge. I'm just glad that someone acknowledged my meager attempt at obscure humor

Any sell outs possible this year? haha maybe just the Indiana and Kentucky games!...I think the closest we get is just over 20000 vs syracuse and GW we'll hear crikets, probably no better than that temple attendance last year
Indiana doesn't sell out when OSU comes to town, and if they do it is b/c 1/2 are OSU fans.I expect a nice crowd for the Syracuse and Northern Illinois games. Anything else will be tough. For the GW game, they should promote perhaps a 50/50 raffle and/or a combination of that and some $$$ to charity. Something big will have to be done there to get attendance up. Of course, if they beat Syracuse, GW game might not be too bad. STUDENTS, STUDENTS, STUDENTS will be the key for those first couple games.

Ergo, the GW game might not be too bad. I guaranty those Orangemen are going to be in for a world of hurt. And I will be there to join in the revelry that will usher in a new era of winning ZIPS football! Man, I can't wait.

There would be nothing sweeter than starting off the season, and the RI regime, by winning the "rubber game of the match" against Syracuse. It sure beats breaking in a new staff against Salem-Tokyo (as they are known in the present) or the Hurons (as they were known in the past). 25 point bonus to whomever correctly names Dennison's 1st game opponent (road game) and his first home opponent. 50 point bonus for the same info for Larsen. On September 4. the campus atmosophere will be fantastic! Allow me to buy you one, dreal!:CK_brew: Go Zips!!!
