Since the University decided to cancel the Football Golf Outing, I was curious how many ZipsNation members would be interested in holding our own event some time this summer? Scramble format...probably 1/3rd the cost of the $160 University-sponsored event last season. Maybe we could even convince a guest celebrity to speak or participate?

I'm simply curious...no commitment necessary...I don't even know that I could put it together...but how many ZN members would be interested?

I always thought Lee & JD did a good job at the previous summer golf outings. Great time for the coaches to unwind, meet fans and have a good time. It's a shame this was not picked up this year, I hope that it will be back on the schedule next year. Unless CK starts to run a more successful one. I voted "y-e-s." I hope that Z-P decides to dust off his perssimon woods and come out. :D

The university did not cancel the outing nor did the department of athletics. The football office decided not to do it this year for reasons unknown. A date was set and everything.

So let me get this straight: The University didn't cancel. The Department of Athletics didn't cancel. But the Football Office did?

Isn't the Football Office somehow tied to The University, or The UA Department of Athletics?

We have an entirely new coaching staff... and they cancel an event where the staff can meet-and-greet with 100+ of the Program's biggest supporters. Big short-sighted mistake, IMO.

Cancelling the football golf outing may be no big deal to some, but to me it is another troubling issue with this staff. People within the dept of athletics have told me that this staff has major attitude issues. The summation that one staffer gave me was "they are really impressed with themselves and expect everyone else to be". Chief amongst them is Ron Powlus who still thinks he's at Notre Dame. Would Dr. Z please let him down slowly as you remind him he's at Akron.

Foregoing the golf outing shows you don't understand or connect with your base of supporters. It may mean nothing, but it also may mean coach I will make a lot of mistakes before he learns to run a program. My prediction is that once he does learn to run a program, and has some success, he will bolt. I'm still not sure he wants to be a Zip as much as he wants a HC position that will move him up the ladder. We just happen to come along at the right time.

This will be a long season for football, but we've got soccer and that will be better than ever. I think the women footballers will be a force to be reckoned with also.

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone expect coaches Pat Bangston or Julie Jones to be fired? Neither has impressed me. :(

Hasn't even coached a game and has already alienated the biggest supporters the program has. Nice work Rob :nutkick:

I was always a critic of JD's coaching and recruiting, but I always gave him credit for being an excellent human being and a humble guy, and the same went for his entire staff. Rob Ianello and staff already seem like a bunch of pricks. First the shady text message that he didn't have the balls to say to a player's face, and now he just doesn't seem to see any importance in getting to know the program's supporters and cancels an event that a lot of people look forward to all year. Guess he has better things to do...

All I have to say is that if you're going to act like God's gift to this program, then you better coach like it too. Nobody has a problem with an asshole who wins. But assholes who lose get a lot less leeway than the nice guys with the same record.

Casino Night August 28th at Infocision Stadium is being finalized and will be for ALL sports and not just one. This will be an evening that "everyone" will be able to participate in plus you will have opportunities to meet ALL coaches and spouses. More information will be coming!

Thanks. DW & I will probably make that, but it is still not the same as a golf outing. Even though I haven't participated in previous outings, I had put aside time for this year's. So, CK if you are going have an outing, count me in.

From what I've been told, Jalapeno is correct. In recent years, the football folks were running their own golf outing. It was no longer being run by the "athletic department".
