GP1
Now for some fun. Akron city council passes resolution to support LeBron This is just a bunch of nothing. Seriously, this means absolutely nothing and these people should have better things to do with their time than passing resolutions like this. GP1
Getting ugly More Dear LeBron, Step 1: Fire the clowns you have around you. Step 2: Talk with Nike about replacing the clowns around you. Please call with questions....you know the number. Dave in Green
Maybe he's getting exactly what he wants right now, and he's prepared to live with the collateral damage. It's funny how so many people used to talk about how mature he was for his age from his late teens through his early 20s, and now some are making excuses that any immature actions may be due to the fact that he's "only 25." Maybe we just weren't seeing things quite so clearly before.
GP1
Maybe we just weren't seeing things quite so clearly before. Maybe they weren't being reported. I find it hard to believe that a guy with his money and fame wasn't doing these things years ago. Personally, I would be doing the same thing if I was in his position so I'm not looking down on his behavior. There is a big difference between what people want to believe about professional athletes and what they actually do.

ZachTheZip
Did anybody see the Beacon Journal today?! LeBron paid for a full-page ad in the ABJ to thank Akron. Only Akron. Not Cleveland or NE Ohio, or Cavs fans, but Akron.

Not Cleveland or NE Ohio, or Cavs fans, but Akron. I feel like this was to be expected. He doesn't like Cleveland anymore, and Cleveland doesn't like him. I don't think there is even a relationship between Lebron and Cleveland anymore. I am sure he just feels that the true fans are in Akron, the ones who have followed him from the start. It's just too bad he will never get to enjoy coming back to the Q and getting a standing "O" like many, many players get to enjoy. He ruined everything with Cleveland, but is still trying to hold on to the shreds he has with Akron.
LZIp
personally, i think if he was truly sincere, he would have done this much earlier.
Blue & Gold
Did anybody see the Beacon Journal today?! LeBron paid for a full-page ad in the ABJ to thank Akron. Only Akron. Not Cleveland or NE Ohio, or Cavs fans, but Akron. Exactly what I was saying a month ago. LeBron, unlike many Akronites, knows where he is from. He's from Akron, not Cleveland. And he's proud of it. Don't you wish more Akronites felt about this city like 'Bron does? I sure do. Then perhaps they'd also be proud of UA & the Zips. Unfortunately, many Akronites are Cleveland whores. Thankfully, LeBron sure as hell isn't. I'm glad Cleveland's not getting any glory from 'Bron-'Bron anymore - they were trying to claim him as their hometown boy, when he knows that he's AKRON's hometown boy. He'd have NONE of that. He wants to put Akron on the map; not Cleveland. You guys have to know that LBJ grew up not liking to look @ a map and seeing "Cleveland" & not "Akron", right? He's still on a mission to change that. Holy cow, he's the best thing that's happened to this city in I don't know how long & so many idiots just don't get it. Lord have mercy. Have fun back in complete irrelevance, Cleveland! Ha! Hey, I've got an idea, how about "Akron+"? How's that sound? Screw "Cleveland+". Don't be naive, Cleveland is only concerned with "regionalism" when it benefits them. Cleveland can burn. In fact, on the front page of Yahoo! today, there was a story saying something to the effect of "Cleveland company unveils new electric car." Guess where the company is from? TALLMADGE!!! That's Akron, not Cleveland!!! Screw Cleveland. We in Akron have balls of our own. We don't need the mistake by the lake. Go Zips! Go Akron! Go LBJ! Go Miami Heat! If this city isn't retarded as f%ck, we'll happily be pimped by LeBron during his next decade of NBA dominance. The King owns ESPN and most of the rest of the world and all the dude ever talks about is Akron. Lord have mercy, this city may just be as retarded as f%ck. tbozeglav
Thats it... Im tired of it. Clevelanders are absolutely NOT entitled to LeBron's loyalty, and as such cannot demand any respect from him. Akronites, on the other hand, have a right to ask loyalty from LeBron. I hate the argument, but in this case, Akron is NOT Cleveland, and vice versa. It should be mentioned I am one of those who don't care that LeBron left (Im glad he did after that fiasco), but lost a lot of respect for him after the way he left. Glad to see LeBron has a tiny sliver of good in him, even if we have to wonder if he doesn't whole-heartedly mean it all the time.

How is LBJ going to put Akron on the map and why does Akron need LBJ to put them on the map? Akron and NE Ohio in general have been in a steady state of decline since LBJ went pro how many years ago now. How has he helped Akron again? How has he helped UofA in a way that we could not have done so ourselves? Between playing basketball, endorsements and lap dances in Las Vegas (not that there's anything wrong with that), how is he going to have time to put Akron on the map? It would seem to me that a guy looking to put Akron on the map and has a pile of cash would at least fly some strippers in from Vegas and have his party in Akron. Personally, I don't see how a guy with limited intelligence is going to save a region. The guy is a Hell of a basketball players, but not exactly ready to split the atom. It absolutely amazes me that there are still people out there who think LBJ is some savior that is going to save an entire region through his basketball playing skills. When LBJ retires, he will be gone and his influence diminished. Jordan's contributions to Charlotte basically consist of running a bad basketball team, keeping cigar shops in business and eating once a day at a different fine restaurant. Dr Z
...how is he going to have time to put Akron on the map?I wonder what LBJ's definition of "put Akron on the map" is? Someone that reports the news for a living should ask him to define that. Maybe Jim Grey.... If "putting Akron on the map" means getting national people to know that Akron is an actual city where he grew up, I would say he might have partially succeeded in signing with Miami. I've seen more national "Akron" headlines than I have ever seen recently. He resigns with Cleveland and you don't see one headline about Akron. Marketing firm gets their message out with BILLBOARD, and it makes national news.
GP1
Marketing firm gets their message out with BILLBOARD, and it makes national news. Thanks for the link. As much as I think LBJ has been an a-hole during this process, I think the billboard is a bit of a cheap shot. Strikes me as sort of childish and phony. I don't think it is reasonable to believe that someone out there is so enraged with him going to Miami that they felt the need to buy this. I think he is a jerk, but I'm not made angry by the thought. It is the kind of thing we see a lot these days. Everyone is trying to out fan the next guy. The billboard says more about the person who bought it than it does LBJ.
Dr Z
The billboard says more about the person who bought it than it does LBJ.I agree. It looks as though the firm is speaking for the masses, and those aren't my thoughts at all, but that's how it will be interpreted. Advertising sure can be powerful. GP1
Advertising sure can be powerful. Good advertising can be powerful in the long term. Bad advertising is easily forgotten. This billboard will be easily forgotten. Without going back to look, I can't remember exactly what it says or what it looks like. That's how easily forgotten it is. Denver Post Link An even better article would have been about how people should turn out for charity events regardless of what a person does. It says more about the people who didn't show up than those who did or even LeBikerider. Raising money for charity is a good thing. Anyone who showed up to boo or cast a negative shadow should be ashamed.
