jem101
UA starting off the season right! Zips #1 This should be a fun year! Also, looking at the rest of the top 25, we have a tough schedule with Wake, UNC, Tulsa, OSU, MSU, Penn State all ranked in the top 25. I'm sure I missed a couple more that are on the schedule. Excellent news. Now, we just have to repeat what we did last year, with the exception of the final game. As far as the tough schedule goes, I'll apply the old sports quote, "To be the best...you have to beat the best".

It just blows my mind. It's Akron. This is what happens when we win, people start noticing! Now if only our other sport teams can follow in our soccer teams success! zip37
Sounds like sour apples to me, those ACC schools think they are the only ones in the Universe, they can't stand it when a Yankee school competes with them and has success. Can somebody get an ACC Sucks icon and put it in the choices? Until then

In fact, if I were to take a "wild" guess, I'll predict that 20,000 people choose the football game, and about 20 will choose to travel to the road soccer game. I think OSU is off that day so we might get a bigger turnout, and maybe...just maybe we won't have to see any ugly red at the stadium!!!!! I'm thinking a crowd similar to the Indiana game is what we should expect to see. I love soccer, and hope we can get that championship this year, but they are away games. I just don't see why you'd want to go all the way to NC to watch them, when you can watch the home opener for football. It's just hands down a better experience at football games, because it really is more than just a game. Tailgating, partying, basically a full day experience... Dave in Green
I don't know how any sports fan couldn't get excited about their college sports team being picked #1 in the country in any sport. With soccer being the #1 sport in the rest of the world outside the U.S., this probably does even more for UA's and Akron's global image than it does for UA's and Akron's image in the U.S. There's just no downside to this, no matter what the American football, basketball, baseball, etc., fans may think. MDZip
I think it's great. A little notoriety is nice, but I really only hope we have the same ranking at the end of the season. Don't care if we go wire to wire as long as that #1 is back at the very end of the season. If the timing works out I will head to Santa Barbara. And I am equidistant form Akron and the UNC-Wake "area". I seriously considered going to the two soccer matches against two highly rated, excellent opponents over heading up for the football game. Events sadly, however, have ruled out either, but I would have been one of the few to make the soccer choice. If I lived in Akron, though, I probably would have headed to the football game. So, I just can't justify the additional trip when there's a good football matchup at home. ESPN2, FSC, or somebody should pick up the UA v UNC game. In at least 1 poll, it is #1 v #2, and a re-match of a 2009 semi-final. (Not saying that I believe it will be televised; just saying it should be.) Let'sGoZips94
Before last year, I really didn't care for soccer. Zips soccer or not. I mean I'd go to the games just because I'm a good fan, but it used to be boring. Last year was the best soccer I have EVER seen. I'm really into Zips soccer, and am starting to get into world soccer, too. Personally, I LOVE being hated on by these ACC schools and their fans. It's a sign of respect. Haha and Justin, if our other sports teams had that kind of success, we'd be a BCS school and have to get a new bandwagon. As for the SU game or the soccer games, I would choose soccer. But since my grandpa is a Syracuse alum, I have to go to the Syracuse game. My birthday is Sept. 1st though. Would love to get a b-day present... or 2. I did too. At the final national championship game against Virginia i had my watch on the game. In the 22nd minute the Virginia coach stopped playing attacking soccer and had his team hunker down with only one attacker. The rst ofthe team got behind the ball, no matter how deep we penetrated. he clearly had abandoned trying to play to win, but rather he played for PK's in OT. It worked out, but i lost all respect for him and gained more for Caleb. Caleb at times defended with only three players and sent the rest up to attack and hopefully win. I respect a coach like him who told the team we will win by playing to win, not by playing only defense. You are damn right in seeing it completely opposite to the ACC snobs. Because we play the way we play our program will surpass theirs. The players love the style of ball we play and we are getting better recruits. Our attendence will surpass theirs also. The Zips are here to stay at the top.
