the last scholarship for 11-12 has been filled...without releasing the name, he is a 6'7 forward from Cleveland...and a nice surprise

he will be on campus this fall...I would assume the name will come out when classes begin Aug. 23

Nick Harney 6'7" combo-forward from Benedictine? If so that news broke months ago. He's greyshirting this year to work on academics and hopefully become eligible in 2011-12. If this is who you are refering to we still have one scholarship left to use on a PG.

If you are refering to someone else I am honestly quite puzzled. We have a wealth of forwards on the team in the long term with Gilliam, Diggs, Egner, Green, Euton, Cvetinovic and Harney and are glarringly thin at PG. I suppose if we are talking about a stud like Jakarr Sampson (who is from the Cleveland area despite attending St.V's in Akron) or Anton Grady from Central Catholic it would make some sense, but we would probably need to pull a scholarship from someone else in order to make room for a PG then.

No doubt the Zips are set to be deep in forwards and shooting guards for 2011-12, and that's a good thing.

As things stand now UA will be shallow in the middle, with Zeke being the only true C on the roster. Assuming he will be playing long minutes by then, a PF can fill in at backup C.

More concerning is that Abreu would be the only PG. Even if Abreu turns out to be brilliant and capable of playing long minutes, there would be no one else on the team with PG experience. So without another PG, a SG would have to fill in as a backup. Don't even think of the chaos if Abreu should suffer any kind of injury! Beyond that, Abreu has yet to play his first college game. None of us really knows how good he's going to be.

It's simply unthinkable for the Zips to be planning a 2011-12 season with only one unproven PG on the roster. Something is going to happen to ensure that there are at least two PGs on the roster for 2011-12.

But this discussion really belongs in the basketball recruiting forum.

If they're on campus this fall, it would be someone who graduated in 2010, right? Unless there is a way for them to attend some classes at UA while remaining in High School (UA has a program like that but I forget what it's called).

If he's from the 2010 class, he's not listed on any recruiting service unless there's been a decommit from some other school.

I am exceedingly confused by this then. If he truly is "high level talent" from "Cleveland" who "will be on campus this fall" I am truly stumped. It would almost have to be a transfer or a de-commit from another school. Nobody shows up on searches of rivals, scout or espn that isn't already committed.

this is certainly a unique situation...unless you're from the Cleveland area, you might not recognize the name...but, be assured, he is a Big East/high major caliber of a player...academics were an issue and other schools backed off and Akron will pick themselves up a very nice little prospect if he keeps his head on straight

Post-secondary? Great program.

As for the Zips basketball team, I'm liking the way Dambrot is recruiting. Sounds like size and athleticism is a heavy goal.

That's it. Post-secondary. It is a great program. Lots of HS students don't take advantage of it because they don't want to leave their friends for half a day or take the plunge into campus life early, while they could get two or three semesters worth of credits out of the way for free.

Still, I wish we knew who it was. I can wait until the 23rd to find out, but if it's still a secret after then I hope someone figures out who it is.

I'm going to do it next year for my junior year. I can't wait to get into Akron and get my Zips card. People who do it save a TON of money.

I don't like being played, and I think that's what's happening here. This fella has Big East talent, but no one outside Cleveland is aware of it. Yeah, and you should see the real estate I got for sale in Kansas. Plenty of room to anchor your yacht behind the outhouse.

I understand dock space in Kansas is fairly limited. Do you have a link that would allow a virtual tour of your property?

My B.S. meter is leaning that way as well. Kid is from the Cleveland area, has Big East talent, is 6'7", unsigned and is already registered for classes. Yet nobody on any of the three major recruiting services fit the criteria. I don't buy it. I'll gladly eat my fair share of crow if I have to later on, but this just doesn't smell right. Especially from someone who just registered this morning.

I appreciate the information and look forward to learning more about this mystery Zip.

When this information does become public, feel free to return to ZipsNation and tell any doubters -- "I kinda...sorta told you so!"

Don't go away upset, gczip22. If you frequent internet forums, you know it's full of both inadvertent and deliberate misinformation. I seriously doubt that you believe rumors posted by people you don't know when there's no credible independent verification. Likewise I'm sure you aren't so naive as to expect everyone to accept your first post on ZN.O as gospel.

You might have posted some really good info. But there's no way of knowing just yet, so everyone has to analyze what you've posted and make their best estimate as to how accurate it is. You probably do the same every day on other forums.

Natually we all hope you're right. Big East quality players rarely make it to the MAC, and all Zips fans would welcome one at UA. But there is also cause for skepticism as a Big East quality HS player from Cleveland would not likely be totally unknown to everyone here.

Anyway, most of the current forum members appreciate new forum members who try to contribute good information.

Great find, Hilltopper.

From Demetrius Treadwell's Twitter account (Tall_ass_tree):

On my way to Akron for this orientation

And gczip22 wasn't kidding about the potential talent level:

High Major Scoop Link

Willoughby News-Herald Link

No wonder he was off the radar with his poor academic record that kept him from playing basketball for his first three years of HS. But what a turnaround in attitude, and what a work ethic. He has turned around his life from being a high risk character to someone who really has a chance to succeed in life. He'll get all the support he needs at UA from KD, his staff, and the team.

Great story. This could be a big one for the Zips.

This guy is the new addition. Demetrius Treadwell He is going to be a prop 48. He will be roommates with Nick Haney. This kid is a major talent. lets hope he can get eligible.

he will not be roommates with Nick Haney

this is the kid I was referring to...high-level talent...a bit of a risk for Akron, but one worth taking

he will be paying his own way for at least the first semester

might want to take your BS meter to the shop and get it re-tuned ;)
