Because, that was the attendance for our final home football game last season, at the end of a horrible season, in freezing cold weather. Although the die-hard "All-Amurrican" football lovers on here may deny it, this is highly likely. The fact that it might happen even once this season is sad. I make the same argument on here all the time....attendance vs. how many people are in the stands. But, what are you going to do? Count people? And I am sure soccer counts their attendance the same way, with tickets sold.

Zip_ME87
Can we please stop with the soccer vs football discussions? They're pointless and the attendance will be it will be. You're not going to improve Zips' football by comparing it to Zips' soccer. As far as football attendance, I sent the AD a suggestion yesterday that he should increase the Roo-wards points for football to 20 pts/game (more than any other sport) for the remaining games. Bribing the students to attend is probably the best hope at this point.

Flash
We fans in the MAC can solve attendance issues by ignoring the footprint of the conference we're in, the Big Ten Conference. Lets try and forget about the Buckeyes game (even though this is Ohio) and do what the other 1-AA schools do. The smaller FCS schools just say "Who cares if we're not one of the 'Big Boys' of college ball, we're gonna pack the stadium for our games and scream our asses off like we're playing in the Rose Bowl" MAC football can be great but our athletes need the support to get up for big games. Start getting the mentality that MAC schools dont just go to BCS opponents stadiums for an ass-whooping and a big check...they go to play...and win. This is something K.e.n.t and Akron fans can both agree with.
RACER
the only way i m going to another game thise season is a free ticket.im sure by the NIU game we will be 0-4. if i can get a free ticket then i will go.i am not going to spend another dime at the AU football games this year. i know they have a new stadium, but this team is worse than last years.that's hard to do.im sure alott of fans in the final weeks of the season won't want to drop 20 bucks plus parking. they could be home in a warm house watching any team but the zips. InTheZone
I'll continue to go and to pay, otherwise I'll lose my right to come in here and bitch about how pathetic we are and call for everyone's head. Things will get better, and this is how I know it. Over the past couple of years, those who support this program have started to DEMAND GREATNESS. Finally. In years past we would lose and everyone with interest in the program would just say, "Well that sucks, but hey, we're Akron." There's a different level of expectation now from the fans and that is shown on this board. If we scream loud enough, heads will roll as they need to. If we make it known the kind of people who need to be running the athletic department and the football program, Proenza will have no choice but to listen. I donate a good chunk of change to the University, and there are many others like me. I am currently penning my first ever "booster bully" letter to the Office of the President. Zipsrifle
This seems to be a decent place to put this, yea we suck, but we really have an awesome stadium. Nobdy wants to see a loser, but if we can put a solid team in that stadium, we should have decent attendance. Our seats are great, I have a great view of the field, exchange street. When the crowd is over 15K, the place starts to get pretty exciting....say that about another stadium. Even with about 7000 people left in the 4th, that place can get pretty loud. We moved into the grass late in the game and it was very, very nice. The scoreboard is awesome and the stadium just feels MUCH bigger than it is. We really have a gem, I expect other schools to follow suit here in the next decade. I just hope we can become a decent team before everyone realizes how to upgrade their stadium to where we are. jberry1337
I haven't been around Akron for very long, but some of you I know have. I heard something the other day from a guy who grew up here that I had never heard before. There was something called the ACME game every year that literally packed the Rubber Bowl to more than capacity and brought hundreds of families, kids, fans, etc. Sometimes ending a marathon in the Bowl, having all the fun kid attractions, fireworks shows, a decent halftime show (That doesn't involve that guy in the white hat trying to bounce his baton back to himself 15 times), and just a fun time. Plus, tickets were like 2 bucks, sponsored by ACME. Why can't the Zips use the new stadium to create an amazing atmosphere, and watch some football at least once a year? I say, it's better to sell 30,000 2 dollar tickets that 5,000 20 dollar tickets. Maybe that doesn't make sense to everyone, but sometimes you need to take the cut, and pack the place. If you get sponsors, than maybe you can do it without even taking a cut. But that's not the point. We need people in this place, it is completely embarrassing to see three full sections completely empty in one of the nicest stadiums I have ever been in. Yea, it would be great to get fans into the seats by winning, but maybe we need that energy in the stands that we had against Morgan State to even win? ACME Zip game in its prime was pretty amazing, but lost steam towards the end. To be honest, right now, I am embarrassed of our current state of football and I don't want anyone seeing the mess we are in.

You lose out on about $40,000 first off. Second, the reason the ACME-Zip game (please search it on here) went away is that the school was losing money and not sustaining a fan base after the game. Therefore it was pointless to do.

For the 1,000,000th time, because it doesn't create long term fans. It creates fans who think it should cost $2 to go to a Zips game. I guess I am just trying to think of anything that can get some people in here. I'd just rather create an atmostphere, and maybe make something happen on the fans end, then watch us lose around 1,000 people that leave after halftime anyways. The one marketing strategy we have deployed is winning. People have better things to do with their time than watch bad football. Make the football more valuable than what they would do with their time otherwise.
Zipsrifle
Yea, right now, I kinda hope attendance sucks. I think only Die Hard Akron fans can watch this crap and come back. Let everyone stay at home, put all the advertising money into paying off the stadium, and we'll do our best to keep this season a secret. Unless, of course, you factor in an average of $20 per person spent in food and/or parking at the stadium: $5 Tickets: $5 x 30,000 = $150,000 $20 x 30,000 = $600,000 Total = $750,000 $20 Tickets: $20 x 5,000 = $100,000 $20 x 5,000 = $100,000 Total = $200,000 $2 Tickets: $2 x 30,000 = $60,000 $20 x 30,000 = $600,000 Total = $660,000 And before you argue that not everyone will spend $20, remember that some people will spend much more, making an average of $20 per person pretty fair.
