Stay with me on this one. If you look over the course of the season, this team obviously hasn't had many positives. But what is interesting to me is that the vast majority of the glimmers of hope have occurred on the road. I think this particular team is more comfortable away from home for whatever reason. Ball St has one pretty good pass rusher. If the Zips can keep him from going off, I think this could be the week. Get your zuit suits ready!

Zips 27

Cards 24

Nice find, Zach. There are some interesting quotes in there.

Ianello understands fans will not see the improvements that he's seeing, and that the record blares brightly. He maintains that he will be able to recruit well no matter the record this season, and he understands that Akron has a lot to sell for its size. Its facilities and stadium are among the best in the MAC. But success at Akron is defined differently than other places; the most wins the Zips have had in a season since it joined Division I-A is seven (done three times, including 2005 when Akron won the MAC championship).

I sure hope this is true. I'm not giving up complete hope until I see the guys he brings in with this next class.

Unfortunately, I feel the same way. Everyone touted him as this recruiting god, so I want to see what he can do to improve us for next year. I just hope for everyone's sanity that we win 1 or 2 this year. We really need to. Unfortunately I have yet to see anything this season to indicate that we will. :(

I know its really early, but iCoach will need to produce a damn good recruiting class and put up at least a 4 or 5 win season if he wants any chance of winning back most of us. He's got a VERY steep uphill battle ahead of him and he will need to bring out all the stops if he wants a chance at saving this program.

I do know what he'll be telling every recruit this winter: play for us and you'll have a damn good shot at playing as a freshman :D

From the Article:

Senior running back Mike Thomas said players had to adjust, but he said he respects Ianello's approach because it will help in the long run.

Well, there's your problem, right there. He's been playing linebacker all year. Sometimes you just have to be able to recognize your team's greatest strengths. (Sigh) I am seriously worried about morphing into Zipmeister II.

Zips get better but not enough points to win it. Ball State 24-14.

Good find Zak. Bottom line though, they have to be more competitive next year.

+1. I don't see us being very good next year either. But we must simply be more competitive. The third year will be the telling season. Then, if iCoach fields a consistent contender, we'll all love him and tell people we knew he'd be a winner from the get-go.

Explain to me how we could be less competitive than 2010?

We lost to a bad 1-AA team, at home. We regularly get drilled by 30+. We lost the wagon wheel.

I don't think we could be less competitive, but we could be as competitive....God help us if we are.

In order to be less, we would have to lose to two I-AA teams, lose by 40+ and lose the wagon wheel again.

Can things get worse?.......Of course they can. Will they?.......Wait and see.

Both intellectually and emotionally, I still find it hard to believe we won't win a game this season. We have two games we should win and every MAC game is a chance for a win. I think the Zips can win two by the end of the year.

Winning two would be a great step forward in our building process. :puke:

One should never worry that they may improve.

The thing I look at is the problem that Brian Kelly is having winning with Ianello's recruits at ND this year. Kelly is a proven coach. Maybe those ND recruits that were brought in over the past few years weren't all that good?

Overheard at Summit Lake: "Please, God, let me win a game. Some people call me a genius recruiter, and I'm clueless as to why that is...since I've never demonstrated that in any way, shape or form. But please, God, let me win a game, anyway. Sorry about the hideous swimsuit. Amen."
