At least it showed some progress and wasn't a complete embarrassment. I think Miami is a bit of a fraud for a division leader. Beaten only the dregs of the East and West (Eastern and Central). Not impressed. I think Temple will destroy them next week and I hope they don't get selected for a bowl because they will embarrass the MAC.

Second straight game Nicely ends the game with a turnover. :wall:

Winners win and losers lose. Nicely is a loser.

iCoach is a loser.

Should never ahve wasted that last time out. What an idiotic decision.

Last timeout was irrelevant. Though there was little chance the fumble would be overturned it was really the only hope we had. We really have lost a lot of players (Wagner made a tackle on a punt and I'm doubting they were just trying to pad his stats). Maybe the discipline is paying off. I do expect to beat Buffalo next week. We have iCoach for probably the next two years so let's see if his plan works.

What in Christ's name does a time out have to do with a player fumbling?

i liked the play calls tonight.

That screen that fumbled away our chances was a good call. Too bad the goof that caused the fumble fell on his face at the snap and stayed upfield in the perfect position when he got up instead of rushing the QB. LaFrance had room to work if not for him...

Allen to Nicely on 4th

No huddle to force some offense when nothing else was working

Even the last timeout was a calculated attempt to win the game. We weren't going to win it from around Miami's 45 with 15-20 secs left and Nicely's aim.

iCoach isn't a good coach yet. But he had us in a position to win. And it seems like the players aren't giving up. Nice to see players competing given the circumstances. That counts for something.

thank you. When he took the timeout I was like, "somebody on ZNO is going to complain about that, and I am going to completely lose faith in UA fans." But thankfully you brought me hope.

The last timeout was a no-brainer. The way MU was putting together drives, one timeout wouldn't have made a difference. It seemed the only place we were able to stop them was in the red zone.

I still liked what I saw. Nice job on the no huddle.

It is clear Nicely is young. Who is our QB coach? I feel with a good mentor he could be lights out.

No huddle was working great until the interception.

Actually, I believe the interception occured on the first play they ran with a huddle (after having the success with the no-huddle).

ps. we NEED to see more of the no-huddle against Buffalo. Nicely and the rest of the offense looks much more relaxed in it.

I couldn't believe this when I saw it....

It looks like this is the first time in 11 games that PN threw for 200 yards.

200 yards? Not 300 or 400, but a total that even mediocre QBs can do often enough, and he didn't do it even once in the last 10 games?

Hey...you gotta feel good about something

Careful there, Skip. You just might dislocate your shoulder ;)

Isn't Powlus the QB coach? still amazing how Nicely who showed so much promise last year has been turned into an indecisive inaccurate thrower this year. The receivers haven't really helped. The lack of a consistent running game hasn't helped. Maybe he can't grasp the new system and/or he hasn't gotten much help in that area.

I liked most of the calls tonight. Except for one big one that stood out to me. Akron ball first and ten with time stopped at the 2:38 mark at the Miami 13. I called the play in my head before they run it. I wanted them to spread it out and run an inside draw to continue to run the clock and get a few positive yards. We were having success running the ball at this time. They needed to run clock and leave Miami with little time on the clock since they would only need a FG to win when we scored a TD to make it 21-19. Actual call, pass to the end zone. Incomplete pass, stops the clock with no positive yards. Best case scenario on that call is a TD. Now Miami has two and a half minutes to get in FG position to win the game. That's too much time to leave them with IMO. That call bothered me.

Hmmm...I wonder if that accurately represents total season ticket holders? They couldn't have sold more than 100 walkup seats. Oh, and the low point of the evening? Not the 4th quarter INT nor the game ending fumble. It was at about 10 last night when I fast forwarded through the DVR and found out neither myself nor my paper bag made an appearance on espnu. :(

The pass to LaFrance was way too low, and put him is a bad position. A good throw, and he'd have been much more-likely to tuck it away.

Where was the Wildcat? Our last possession screamed for it.

Oh well... one game away from perfection... :(

I could be wrong, but if zips got a TD, they'd go for 2, right? 20-19 is essentially the same as 21-19. May as well go for the 3 pt lead?

You are absolutely correct in the sense that in those circumstances a 1-point lead is no worse than a 2-point lead, and a 3-point lead protects you from losing to a field goal. Going for the 2-point conversion should be automatic in those circumstances.

I don’t think there’s any question the Zips would have gone for two if they had scored the TD. But this doesn’t negate Dr Z’s original point that he would have liked to see them to run a little more clock before the potential score. Let’s say the lucky Miami defender (taking cornbread’s word on this) doesn’t slip and LaFrance makes a clean catch and scores. Even if the Zips convert for 2 points, this wouldn’t have changed Miami’s thinking much. The Sweaters still would have had about 1:30 to, first and foremost, get the ball in FG range to at least send the game to OT.

I will say one more thing about the game and i think many of you would agree.

It was a hell of a good time! The team entertained for the first time at home all year.

I went with a big group, and for three of them it was their first game. After the game, they actually wanted to come again. Maybe it was partly due to our beautiful stadium but hey for once we didn't embarrass ourselves entirely.

ASN take on the game.
