K S U at Miami tonight.. A big one in the MAC East !

This game will have a direct impact upon our future. The big question I have is, who do you root for in this game ? If you look at the big picture, we have still have a shot to take down the #1 seed. We have Miami and Buffalo coming in next week and of course the finale with K S U. so the Zips really do have a shot to control their destiny if things go our way tonight. K S U destroyed the R'Hawks at Cant but Miami didn't have Mavunga for that one and they don't have Ballard tonight. Talk about being just downright lucky, the flushes sure seem to catch Miami at the right times.

A Miami win tonight would help this scenario become a real possibility because tonight K S U begins a stretch of 5 games in 10 days. They still has some tough dates left. They have that rescheduled snow out game at Western. That will be a rough spot for K S U because Western is playing pretty well and fighting for a possible 1 or 2 seed themselves. The Flushes also have us and Buffalo at their dump and both teams beat K S U at their places with Buffalo really spanking them good.

If you don't buy into that, I would suppose that you would have to be rooting for (gulp) K S U tonight. If K S U wins we have one hell of a shot to take down the 3 seed. With Miami and Buffalo at our place, I have to believe that we could leap over those two and finish 2nd in the East.

So again the question is : Do you bite your lip and pull for the Flushes tonight ? Or do you want Miami to destroy them and maintain a slim hope that we can run the table and get to the top??

As Michael Reghi would say: Strap on the gear because this is going to be fun"

Here's my deal...

I can never root for Ken+. But it seems as if a Miami loss would be more beneficial to the Zips since that 2nd place spot in the MAC East (The #3 Seed) is a real possibility, especially with a home game against Miami still on the schedule. I think that #1 seed is just a tall task. Even with a Ken+ loss tonight, we'd still need to make up 2-3 more games on them in a couple of weeks, which almost surely means that we have to win at their place, win at OU, and get a lot of help elsewhere.

I'd rather aim for securing that #3 spot since it's much more realistic, which means that Miami needs to lose tonight.

And it's going to be soooo funny to me seeing Dials on the Miami bench when they come here.

I agree with you, but it's also just about impossible for me to wish anything but negative vibes toward K S U.

I had briefly forgot about Dials factor even though I have seen him on their bench in recent TV games. In fact, I have watched many X Zip players and coaches who are doing quite well lately. I didn't like seeing Shaka take one on the chin at VCU last night. They were beaten very soundly on their own floor by a very good George Mason team. Shaka catches a lot of flak down there. He has a tough job in following a great coach like Anthony Grant and maintaining a very solid program. He's done a great job in my book but there are still many VCU fans that clearly don't like him.

Tough for a mid-major to lose guys to the NBA (Sanders and Maynor) and recover quickly...those players don't fall into your lap annually. Look at Butler this season after losing Haywood. All of the sudden they're mortal.

Regarding K.e.n.t/Miami - I root for K.e.n.t. to lose every game.

I am first and foremost a Zips fan. I always want whatever is best for the Zips. No matter how much I dislike Can't, I could grit my teeth and root for the Flushes if it was clearly best for the Zips.

So what is really best for the Zips? Is winning the regular season MAC championship still good for a guaranteed NIT bid? If so, that's tempting to wish for. But it would take a huge combination of Zips wins and Can't losses for that to happen.

Getting the 3rd seed is a more realistic goal. As has been discussed here in previous seasons, the #3 seed is in some ways better than the #1 seed. If all the top seeds win out prior to the semifinals, the #3 seed ends up facing the MAC West champion in the semifinals while the #1 seed ends up playing the 3rd best team in the East (unless 2 West teams have better conference records than #3 in the East, which could possibly happen this year with Ball State and WMU). Assuming the 3rd best team in the East is better than the West champion, the #3 seed might have an easier semifinal matchup than the #1 seed, and be more likely to make the championship game.

If Can't wins tonight, the #3 seed becomes a more realistic possibility for the Zips. If Miami wins, the #1 seed becomes slightly more possible for the Zips.

I think I'm going to stay neutral tonight, see how it plays out, and hope that whichever team wins ultimately results in the best scenario for the Zips come tournament time.

And since we already played well against the two teams likely to hold that #2 spot, being in that #3 spot should be good for us again.

Good stuff Captain K, I thought about those guys as well but I couldn't quite remember their names. The Shaka Smart supporters always brought that up to repel the bashers and it couldn't really be debated

I didn't think all that much of Sanders. He had the body for the NBA but to me he seemed lazy at times while just going through the motions. Maynor was a different story. He was nothing but smooth on the floor, just a great college player.

I am hoping for a game that goes into 4 overtimes, and I don't care who wins. An extended game could provide the emotional and physical exhaustion both teams need to collapse going down the stretch. It would be a great start to Can't's stretch of 5 games in 10 days, which is rough enough with all games ending in regulation.

This guarantees that I don't have to root for Can't or the Sweaters.

I hope the same thing, but I hope Miami wins. I can't root for the Felons. :puke: Plus, you have to love Charlie. The guy is the definition of classy.

I think you have to root for Miami to give K-ent their 3rd loss. That puts the Zips two games back with 4 games left in the season, and the finale being @ K-ent. We'd just need one more loss by K-ent in their last 4 (don't forget they have that extra one shoved in there from the cancellation in Kalamazoo). If the Zips are at 5 losses (big assumption, I know) and K-ent is at 4, the finale would likely decide the regular season champion. I believe the first tie breaker is head-to-head, is it not? What's the second tiebreaker? Record vs West? Yeah, we're not winning much there.

I hope that was vaguely coherent. Go Redhawks.

i'm rooting for Miami...i could never root for Can't and i am 100% certain that miami will lose a few more down the stretch allowing us to take over their spot...also if Can't loses tonight and we beat them at their place we have a legit shot at one still. They just have to lose elsewhere too. Not entirely impossible, i want the 1 seed...period.
