Miami

Nice win by our guys.

Brief thoughts:

- Felt like the first half was pretty ugly for the Zips .. but to go into the half up 2 after an up and down performance was a good sign.

- Zeke had a better game .. settled down a bit and went after the ball. Stepping back from him offensively a bit isn't the worst thing in the world, given the way Nik & McK are rolling at the minute.

- For the past few seasons, Miami hasn't really been able to guard the post. It's their weakness, and the Zips do a good job of exploiting that weakness. The Redskinhawks just don't go deep enough to defend the post for 40 minutes. It wouldn't break my heart to see them again in CTown.

- Nikola has to be playing himself up to 1st Team All-MAC .. he's having a great season. Whatever he did to settle his emotions and play with passion and focus needs to be shared with Zeke for different reasons. ZM is hard on himself and needs a little amnesia after missed shots and ticky tack fouls. He just needs to go out and play through it. Sometimes I think he's harder on himself than KD or any of the coaches. Lighten up big fella.

- McNees with a "quiet" 14? Seems like he's rolling pretty well now, and able to comfortably switch between the 1 and the 2 with AA on the floor.

- Rotations are looking good. A solid 9 deep with not many minutes over 30 for any players. That will help keep them fresh and (hopefully) healthy down the stretch. A look over at the minutes distribution for Miami reveals a few guys playing heavy minutes.

- The balance is getting pretty good among the guys, and you can sense from courtside that they believe they're going to pound the other team. While running the offense, there's not much uncertainty .. they're in pretty good sync right now on both ends of the floor.

Nice run of poultry .. now for some BEEF! Buckle up for the ride, it's looking like it's going to be a great one.

B) B) B)

Go Zips!

I think some credit needs to go to Steve McNees too. Fighting through a season long slump, he had a very good game. 4-7, 14 points 3 assists and only one turnover. Abreu off the bench looks like a brilliant move by Keith.

Charlie Coles' reaction each time McNees hit a 3 was great...couldn't help but reminisce about Steve's first game vs the Sweaters (six 3-pointers without a miss, if I remember correctly).

It was good to see and chat with Jimmy Conyers last night. My wife and I talked with him for a couple of minutes about his future. He said, like many recent college grads, things are tough out there and he's had trouble finding anything decent. I told him that there are players in Europe that aren't as solid as he is and he stated that there was still a possiblility to get something going over there but that he is expecting to stay in the Akron area.

It was Jimmy who stepped up and visited my wife's school last year along with Chris and Humpty. They came to speak about the need to do well in school. Jimmy had a great time with the kids and we could tell that he really enjoyed being with the kids.

Jimmy is one of the good guys and we wish him nothing but the best.

+1 for that. Was cool to see him and say hi. My boy was pumped that he was there.

I have a fun time looking around at the people sitting in the lower bowl section knowing the people who post on this board are among them.

Just a random thought.

Also, this is the best all-around play I've seen from the Zips since I can remember. I'm very excited for the final three games.

Thank you Zips for giving me a reason to start paying attention again! If the Bracketbuster were being announced over again, Akron would get one of the feature TV games. Strong finish guys...then...maybe another West Regional appearance? Sorry, but with the Portland regional and soccer tourney in Cali, we're becoming used to the Zips on the Left Coast.

Never forget? Why? Were you rooting for Miami? My gawd, one of the biggest swings of sporting emotion that left me with a punched in the gut feeling for days. Why would I not want to forget that? Thanks for reminding me. Never forget? You never forget, I want to, except you keep posting one of the horrific moments in Zips fans history. Keep it to yourself. I was having a perfectly fine day.

It means: Dont forget how much we were screwed in that game and that we should hate Miami with everything we have (just like Can't) because of it.

We didn't get screwed. We choked-away the game. And the Miami kid made a miracle play, and game over.

+1 on Dr. Z's comment. That photo, or any related videos, will never again appear on ZipsNation.

This is a stupid argument because it's pretty much established fact that the clock started WAY LATE, and that makes it about as much of a screwjob as they get. Especially because if the game would have ended correctly with that shot not counting, we would have won....

....BUT I will remove all traces of that horrible game from ZN.o if it's bringing up torturous memories for my fellow Zips diehards. I understand completely.

(Dr. Z, tear that pic down!)

Heck yeah, Jimmy may forever be my fav. Zip....tied with Jamie Bosley and Nate Linhart of course :thumb:

But i thought last night's perimeter defense was particularly impressive. Miami shot a lot of long jumpers and most of them were contested. I like the wide-spread zone defense we were using, it always shocked me that Dambrot didn't use such a scheme (especially with a back up like Zeke in the paint) against teams that exploit our somewhat weak perimeter defenders.

If we play defense like we did last night, NO ONE will beat us until the Big Dance...and it might be the second week of it.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. George Santayana, poet,

author, philosopher.

Pollyanna lives. Let's all feel good and sing Kumbya. Are you kidding me? Keep the images and rants

lest anyone forgets the screw job laid on the Zips. Its the squeaking wheel that gets the grease.

The sheep merely get sheared. Foolish, foolish, foolish to pretend this atrocity never occurred.

I remember in January and early February...all the posts complaining about the horrific referees...oh, how the disgusting, vile, evil referees were screwing the Zips over. You'd swear the three refs were Hitler, Dahmer and Charles Manson night-in-night-out.

Amazingly - since the Zips have been winning, no one complains about the referees?

Funny how that works out...

CK, sitting a few rows in front of me and Hilltopper, your ears are surely thankful that there's not as much need to remind the refs of questionable calls when your team is comfortably winning. Questionable calls by the refs are only small bumps in the road when you're winning, whereas they can make all the difference in a close loss.

My vocal chords will only stand so much abuse before giving out, and I believe it's wise to conserve limited resources for times of greatest need. ;)

I don't know about that.... I have a mini stroke every time I see this guy walk out on the floor.

You obviously don't sit by me at home games.

Last Saturday vs. Creighton they were just as bad as usual and if you remember, the entire arena was buzzing with boos for the final 1/2 of that game. It was a terrible crew. Of course, Bo Boroski was the culprit as usual.

I will give credit to the crew on Wednesday, they were fairly restrained in calling ticky-tack fouls, and the game was much more pleasant because of it. Still, i cringe every time i see Mike Foote or Boroski walk out before the game.

EDIT: Forgot about Larry too. He's been bad a few times, and if i'm not mistaken, earlier this year he got a member of north side student section removed. But still, Foote and Boroski are the WORST.

Instead of dwelling on the refs...maybe we could've hit a free throw? it's over with, and just as much the zips fault, as the refs fault, or miami making a miracle play.

In conference play, we were third in free throw % before Wednesday, we've now dropped to fifth. Overall though, we are second in the conference in free throw shooting (counting every game this season). To be honest, our free throw shooting has been pretty good this year, much better than in year's past with the likes of Joyce, Travis, and Wood who shot about the same from the field as they did from the charity stripe. I couldn't even begin to count how many games we lost because of that.

A lot of the improved free throw shooting is contributed to Nik's improvment from the line. Those that remember last year he was absolutely terrible. This year he has been in the low to mid 70% range all year, which is acceptable for a PF. Considering that he shoots significantly more free throws than anyone on the team, the big improvement from Nik at the line correlates to a big improvement for the team as a whole.
