Blue & Gold
didn't Ball State have a shot at a BCS game a few years back? all you have to do is win out, no matter your schedule. Doesn't seem like that would require a big investment if you're in the MAC. Just schedule easy non-conference games and go undefeated for a chance at a BCS game every year. Right here is one (THE?) reason that when I read the threads about moving the the Big East, I generally have the "careful what you wish for," thought. I'd rather stay in the MAC and dominate this conference every year. We'd have consistent, perhaps annual, Top 25 rankings, even if no real chance at winning the national championship. But that's fine w/ me. My grand vision for Akron football is lower-eschelon Top 25. And we'd be packing the Info & everyone would know who/where Akron is (even though I guess LBJ's already accomplished this one). Become the Boise State of the MAC. Boise State translated their success into moving to a better conference. Akron needs to get to C-USA if your "grand vision" is to happen. I don't have anything against C-USA, except for greater travel time/expense. But we don't need C-USA for lower-tier Top 25 rankings. We just need to win out in the MAC. Dr Z
Former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel visited the Steelers' facility Thursday and watched practice. Tressel was a guest of director of football operations Kevin Colber Browns camp, Steelers camp, looks like someone is lining up his next job. Wonder how that resume reads?Nailed it! Tressel is a very intelligent guy. He would be unhirable for any real positions with at least a 5 game suspension ahead of him. But take a simple "consulting" job watching video and he can burn off that suspension this year. No doubt....the coaches look out for each other. GP1
Tressel is a very intelligent guy.History suggests otherwise. My brother works out with a Federal judge in Columbus before work every day. When all of this happened, he told my brother, "Tressel must be the most stupid SOB (he said the words, but since this is a family friendly board well go with SOB) in the world." Tressel was as smart as he wanted to be. One can be willfully stupid. Tressel knew what was going on around him for years and decided to not look into things to keep the appearance of his hands being clean and the saintly sweater vest wearing guy. More than anything, that is what makes him such a phony.

The thing that rubs me the wrong way, is that Jim has never really come out an apologized for what he did. I'm not talking about that sham pseudo-apology. He doesn't seem sorry for what he did, or even act like he was wrong. It makes me think that he doesn't believe what he did was wrong. I can forgive anyone, as long as they acknowledge what they did, why it was wrong, and show remorse for what they did. If what he is doing is some suggestion of some lawyer or something, than he is getting bad advice. He still walks around with an arrogance like he is christ-like. His disciple disgust me as well. IF for so some dumb reason, this University was ignorant enough to hire him, I would probably stop being a fan.

Most people with a sense of honor would take their $3 million and go away for a year. Tressel hasn't seen a microphone he could stay away from. My guess is he wants to cash in on this. He'll say what he wants to say in a book in a year or two so he can try to rewrite history. There will be a state full of dupes who buy it and put money in his pocket. GP1
Did anyone hear osu's next coach, Urban Meyer, just give his views on breaking the rules when he said they should tell the player to stop taking gifts, etc....for a while. Not forever, but for a while. One rule breaker replaces another.

If I remember right, it was about taking gift bags. tOSU players shouldn't stop doing charity events as it is important for them to support charity. They should stop breaking ncaa rules while at charity events.

I have been to things like this before and when I am leaving I am handed something. I have never thought about it. But I am sure 18 year odl kids do. They actually told the coach right after a meeting where they were told this was against the rules. They should have just hid it like 95% of the rest of the schools do. I don't believe for one second they didn't know, at the time, taking those bags was a violation. What they did is Compliance 101, not sr., jr. or even soph. level compliance. They learned it the first day. Rules are rules even when the rules are stupid. Whether or not they turned themselves in isn't the issue. The issue is the culture of non-compliance Tressel created. If they don't break the rules, they don't have to turn themselves in.

ZachTheZip
Those OSU players took actual cash. Not from the event, but from a booster. The gift bags were not the issue. The compliance department also didn't approve the players to go to the event. This is a failure on the part of the compliance department for not informing the players of the proper procedure for attending an event such as this. And it's a failure on the part of the Athletic Director for running what increasingly appears to be an extremely ineffective compliance department.
