ZachTheZip Posted March 23, 2011 Author Report Posted March 23, 2011 Pride and Schrock leaving leaves us even thinner at WR than we thought we would be. Blayther Sabbat is someone to watch in the defensive secondary. Quote

K92 Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Pride and Schrock leaving leaves us even thinner at WR than we thought we would be. Blayther Sabbat is someone to watch in the defensive secondary. Gary played in all 12 games and caught 22 passes. Too bad he won't be around to try and improve on those numbers. Hope there are a couple of surprises in the receiving corps ready to step up. Why should be be watching Blayther? Any good news for the secondary is great news. Quote

I was at practice today and it was clear that the receivers are going to be an issue this year. Only two look to be over six feet and they dropped a ton of balls. Quote
Lee Adams Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 Went to the practice. Who are the running backs(not FB) gonna be? Broderick Alexander is the only returning RB with any carries? A couple of frosh on there. Thats not good. The Lone Ranger doesn't look 6'1' either. Quote

Honestly I have seen better size at skill positions on local high school teams. Quote

That's thin. Quote

Or it could be that we already knew they were on the roster for the spring semester, and so weren't really "new". Rizzo and Moore are both on the team and practicing. Moore was working with the second-string O-line. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Broderick Alexander and Anthony Meriwether on the roster, huh? I think Paul Simkovich will set the Zips al time record for appearing on the sideline in sweat pants in Game #5. Quote

Yep, they are listed 6'0"-6'3" but few were noticeably taller than me at 5'11". Dillard? was clearly the tallest but thin, slow, and couldn't catch. He also slammed his helmet down a few times. Quote

xu9697 Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Good to see Oren Wilson back @ DT. 3 RBs..definitely need some depth there!! Down to 5 TEs from 9 last year...seems like a more reasonable #. My hope is that, while the WRs may be short, we can find 3 that are good and can pair that with a couple of good tall TEs. I have high hopes for Will Fleming and Ritossa at the TE (to go along with Richard Hall). Fleming based on him just LOOKING like a football player in 09 and Ritossa just based on what I have read. Perhaps with both at 6'4, 220..maybe they can be our "Dallas Clark" type TE. 70 players listed on that roster. Not sure how many are scholarship vs. walk-ons..but with those guys and around 20 or so guys coming in (not including a couple that are here)...I don't see where we fall woefully short of scholarship players. It would still seem we are in the 75+ range of scholarship recruited players..which is not unheard of for year 2 of a program under a new coach with major changes. Quote

However, I count at least 10 walk-ons. Out of the 23 recruits coming in, four (Washington, Moore, Staten, Rizzo) are already here. So we have 19 coming in in the fall to add to at best 60 scholarship players. So we are looking at 79 in a best-case scenario, assuming nobody quits during spring and fall camps (not a safe assumption, given our rate of players jumping ship). I think by the time we play OSU we'll have around 74 scholarship players. Quote

As someone mentioned (perhaps you), Syracuse was down quite a few going into this year..and they had a pretty good year. Quote
