Dave in Green
The Zips were just flat outhustled for much of the first 90 minutes. They started coming alive toward the end. Now they just have to keep it up in OT.
akzipper
Is Rob Ianello coaching this team? oh wait nevermind we got 2 pts, he can't even do that hahaha

UAZipster0305
Well, let's hope this has the same effect as the CSU game last year. I have never seen our defense look so disorganized. Coach Porter is certainly pissed. Someone will be taken to the woodshed on this one. With all the missed tackles and turnovers, this could have been UA football. Roogangs
this game was played at two ends, our third and their third. we had No midfield what so ever. i would venture to say it is hard to defend when the second you play it up midfield looses it and it comes right back. scottditzen
I saw a good deal of momentum-killing bad passes. Not used to that from our Zips!!!

AkronZip54321
Too many guys were getting knocked around and had trouble really dealing with the pressure from UCSB. This was a dog fight and we couldn't rise above it and pass them to death like we saw the 09 and 2010 teams do vs these roughhouse teams. Havent seen Caldwell be so careless in possession ever. Trapp was our M.O.M. in my opinion, what a bright future this kid has. Not the end of the world though. Looks like were shooting for a top 8 seed (bye and 2 home games)
johnnyzip84
Tough loss, but they'll bounce back.
Dave in Green
Pretty much manhandled on both offense and defense. My hand was reaching for the remote control before the final goal in OT as I could see it coming. Other teams seeing video of this game before playing the Zips will be more confident about their chances of beating UA. The Zips have a lot of growing to do before the end of the season. Best way to get a bad game like this out of your system is to come back on Saturday and do a number on NIU,
fknbuflobo
Awful loss! This film will serve as a template on how to beat Zips. Pressure high with outside backs supporting the pressure. Do not allow Zips to play out of D to MF. This week's practice had better be dedicated to playing ball through the MF, on the ground. Akron is not structured for long ball. Dave in Green
Coach Porter confirms what everyone here saw: “We didn’t sustain a high enough level on either side of the ball to deserve to win tonight,” UA coach Caleb Porter said in a statement. “We hadn’t played that caliber of opponent in the season thus far and it showed, especially in our individual and collective defending. Santa Barbara played through us far too easily and we didn’t show the grit and intensity that we needed.” And this quote also supports what is being said in this thread: “UCSB is certainly a talented team and they exposed us at times when we weren’t clicking,” Porter said. “But I know this team has it in them to perform better. Maybe we needed this type of game as a bit of a rude awakening to realize we still have a ways to go in order to be a championship caliber team.” Beacon Story
Blue & Gold
Did Holmes play in the second half &/or OT? I don't believe I ever heard his name mentioned after half time.
fknbuflobo
Holmes must have done something to displease Porter. After exiting the match, he never re-entered during the 2nd half.

After watching most of UCSB game in which they lost to Irvine I was absolutely shocked by how good they looked. Granted this was helped by our poor showing defensively but they are certainly ,far and away, the best we have seen so far. With most of our remaining games at home lets hope they turn it around after this one.Still a long way to go.
