Quickzips
This one falls on KD every bit as much as it does the refs. I've not seen him coach a worse last 5 minutes in his career here. 5 point lead with 5 minutes to go and we are trying to take the air out of the ball? What is that about? Then we have two looks out of TO's. They haven't been able to stop the dribble penetration from Alex or Q all night so what do we do? Run some ball screens for Nitro the first time and have him take an off balance shot in the lane. Second time we come with Q taking a long contested J. That is just flat out poor coaching on KD's part. Our guys on the floor didn't do a much better job all night, and don't even get me started on the refs, but the game was still there for the taking, and KD blew it for us. Zipgrad1990
You guys are out of your minds this game should have never been this close....this is the result of horrible officiating. Valpo won the boards.....of course they did our guys weren't allowed to play basketball. Like I said before this s why basketball is quite possible the dumbest sport....how can you send a team to the foul line 37 times and one 7. It is actually impossible for one team to foul that many times while the other team fouls so few. I hate basketball....absolutely hate it and the BS that counts for officiating! I have to agree with you about how much refs can influence a basketball game, it is the worst part of the sport.

Blue & Gold
I was surprised to see so much of McClanahan and none of Walsh. I don't believe he had a minute of second-half action.

Two of the fouls were just absurd. One was the back court offensive foul when the Valpo player just jumped in front of our guy. The other was almost all the rest. Captain Kangaroo
Free throws my butt...the Zips panicked, and choked it away. The bandwagon saw a few drop off tonight. Too bad. Big choke job by the Zips. They had a nice lead, yet they played like they were the ones down 5. No points in the final 4 minutes? Terrible shot selection. Pretty much makes the Duquesne game a "must-win." Hope to see a sense of urgency in that game. It's a long season...blah blah blah...it was a choke. Period. We all saw it. Hope we learn from it. UAZip0510
Just not much you can do tonight. 31 fouls for Akron, 14 for Valpo. 7 free throws for Akron, 38 for Valpo. They fought and fought...just didn't have enough to overcome the officiating. This will be a good learning experience, as they certainly won't get calls should they make it back to the NCAA Tournament.

When one team gets 38 free throws and the other gets 7, it's going to affect the outcome of a 3 point game. It's amazing that they even had chances to win at the end. Derrt
Zeke fouling out hurt us big time, and I dont see on that stat sheet that he had ONE rebound? Is that true no rebounds?
Big Zip
Really Cap'n 37 free throws to 7 and our guys choked? They should have been up by 30. This Valpo team will barely finish .500 and this game will kill us. They aren't very good at all, but they are awesome when they can do nothing and get every damn call all night long. akzipper
I guess we just have to move on. It's obvious the refs gave them the game, but there's nothing we can do about it now. This will show up as an embarrassing loss on our resume. Only positive is that we we'rent going undefeated and the only real part of this season that matters is the MAC tourney. Whit that being said, I had us finishing 2-2 after this tournament. So this embarassment cancels out the MSU win and we'll head back home to play Detroit at 2-2. The Hip Zip
Ditto on most of the above. Just an awful homer job but we still had a good chance to walk out with a win with just a little bit of offensive execution in the final 3 minutes. Why #5 is on the floor so much defies rational thinking. I really thought only Tree played well tonight.
eguins
Hey Valpo is a good team. They will definitely finish in the top half of the Horizon. no they are awful. they never deserved to be in this game Valpo is not awful. They may look awful with their ugly ass style of play the Drew's instill in them year-after-year, but I've seen them do this to YSU numerous times! Ever since they joined the Horizon League, every game against YSU has been like this, only we are in Akron's shoes and blow it vs. them every time! PB1719
I'm so tired of lop-sided officiating, what ever happened to "may the best team win"? If Zeke was in the game for a few more minutes, it could have made a huge difference as well.
